Merger discussion
edit- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- To not merge, on the grounds that the city and territory are geographically and organizational distinct and notable; by analogy with other cities with surrounding territories. Klbrain (talk) 17:51, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
I propose that the Islamabad Capital Territory article should be merged into the Islamabad article. There is no actual difference between the two in the same way there is no difference between Washington and the District of Columbia. -92.40.192.157 (talk) 15:25, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose Islamabad Capital Territory is an Federal Territory and Islamabad is a city with in Federal Territory. Ytpks896 (talk) 10:33, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose There is a big difference between Islamabad Capital Territory and Islamabad city. Islamabad city makes up only half the population of Islamabad Capital Territory, the rest is considered rural (in name). -- Abbasi786786 (talk) 18:44, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Support - what is missing in this discussion is a definition of the limits of the territory and the city. They are exactly the same. In 2015, the law was changed to create the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation headed by the Mayor of Islamabad, together with a number of Union Councils as lower-level units. If you read section 9(a) under chapter 3 (page 9 of the webpage) of the Act, you will see it says:
- (a) Metropolitan Corporation for the Islamabad Capital Territory; and
- The law of Pakistan clearly states that the Metropolitan Corporation covers the Capital Territory. Not part of it, but the whole of it. There is no mention of excluding or including urban or rural areas. The City of Islamabad is therefore exactly the same as the Capital Territory. It therefore makes sense to merge the two articles as suggested by the anonymous IP. Sildemund (talk) 16:44, 26 December 2020 (UTC)
- Support unless there is sufficient and reliable evidence to the contrary. The claim that Islamabad (ISB) and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) are not the same is probably (1) based upon the situation pre 1967, (2) the result of confusing the term "Islamabad Capital Territory" with "Federal Capital Territory", and (3) based upon the misconception that "rural" Islamabad cannot be part of the city Islamabad, but ICT. There is no difference in the actual usage of the name ISB all over ICT (for example when talking about Margalla Hills which are supposed to be outside urban ISB or "Islamabad city"). It is "Greater Islamabad" which would be extended beyond ICT to include all of Rawalpindi. Idell (talk) 21:21, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose per @Abbasi786786:. 205.164.111.170 (talk) 15:32, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose Islamabad "proper" usually refers to the main city, and that article is only about the city. The Islamabad Capital Territory encompasses the outer suburbs also, and was purposely designated as a federal territory by the government in the 1960s. Both are distinguishable, in the same sense that Canberra and the Australian Capital Territory are not the same. Mar4d (talk) 10:01, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose Islamabad is a city and is completely different from a province/territory. The Islamabad Capital Territory is a territory that contains the city of Islamabad. The Islamabad Capital Territory does not only hold the city Islamabad, but also other towns such as Rawat, Saidpur and several others. Mintymainacs (talk) 06:43, 5 December 2021 (UTC)

- Not done: It is cited, also I don't think that there's a full "official list" since it's not really an official thing. Maybe I can get some grants from the UN to run the UN Sister City Registry. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:40, 15 October 2021 (UTC)

Urdu spelling needs slight tweak?
editAccording to the Pakistani Wiki article, the correct spelling is اسلام آباد (two words). At the top of this English article, there's no space: اسلامآباد. 68.193.141.193 (talk) 19:52, 25 April 2024 (UTC)corpho
