Talk:India–Sri Lanka relations

Latest comment: 7 years ago by InternetArchiveBot in topic External links modified

I would like to point out these facts that I believe should be included in the article. I am not very good in English so I will point out somethings that can be attached if others (if a majority) agrees with me.

First thing is this article does not discuss dark age and the dark side of Indo Sri Lankan relations. For example in the reign of Indira Gandhi Central government of India directly nurture Tamil Separatists movements in Sri Lanka. The in the reign of J. R. Jayawardena this policy future continued with Rajiv Gandhi as prime minister of India. Then in 1987 Indo-Sri Lankan agreement was signed where India some sort of forced it to be signed. Though Jayawardena govenment accepted it most elements in Sri Lanka opposed this decision. It should be noted that when IPKF was in Sri Lanka Tamil Nadu supported both verbally and materially for LTTE the main separatist group that was fighting. Some good references for this material is 1. Assignment Colombo, J. N Dixit 2. The Making of India's Foreign Policy Jayantanuja Bandyopadhyaya 3. Rohan Gunaratne From there onwards the relations between Sri Lanka and India have been smoothed in recent history. This article does not give any detials of this dark ages. With in this modern times also there have been issues especially though elements that are parts of coalition government. There was a occation before the SAARC summit where a high profile Indian delegates arrived on Sri Lanka and know joint statement issued. It is also a known fact that elements in Tamil Nadu is which is a part of the Indian coalition government to intervene into Sri Lankan problem as it had done before. Finally India wants to maintain some sort of hegemony in the area and sees it as threats. (My experiences with this are some ideas conveyed by Indian government owned media over Sri Lankan and Pakistani relations.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.248.8.106 (talk) 08:08, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
