Talk:Hurricane Fiona

Title of article should include (2022)

edit

I’d suggest a speedy change, thanks. Jusdafax (talk) 20:54, 18 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Oppose for 2 reasons:
  1. Every other storm named Fiona did not get an article.
  2. This is the most notable Fiona-named storm and is currently active, adding 2022 doesn't make sense currently.
RandomInfinity17 (talk) 22:19, 18 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
While point 1 is irrelevant, it is a) the only hurricane named Fiona, and b) likely to be retired. So no need to add it. CrazyC83 (talk) 21:36, 22 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Fatalities

edit

Based on sources, I believe we are at 4 fatalities. 1 in Guadeloupe [1], 1 in the DR and 2 in PR [2]. Elijahandskip (talk) 17:23, 20 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Can someone please update PR to 4 deaths? [3] 108.170.65.170 (talk) 21:57, 20 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

PR deaths

edit

Per Fox News, PR deaths are 8, which would make the total 10. Not sure if I should add though, as an RFC concluded it marginally unreliable.144.121.66.230 (talk) 17:30, 24 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

You should probably wait until the reliability is higher.Poxy4 (talk) 22:27, 24 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Is this higher quality?69.118.232.58 (talk) 22:55, 24 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

This storm has dissipated, and the NHC is no longer issuing advisories on it

edit

I think we should update the infobox to match this fact. Poxy4 (talk) 22:26, 24 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

I agree DuckBeaks (talk) 15:50, 25 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

It most certainly did not dissipate at the time these comments were made. Extratropical is not dissipated. Remnant low is not dissipated. We have extra parameters for those. Also, clearly no one was paying attention to the WPC and OPC advisories, which tracked the storm into September 28. Amateurs should not be calling the shots on how information is being presented, as that only makes us look silly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.64.175.74 (talk) 17:12, 2 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Dubious Template

edit

I had added a dubious claim template to the Hurricane Fiona#Impact impacts by country infobox for the damage total sourced/linked with Guadeloupe. The source does not mention any damage total nor does the impacts section for Guadeloupe. Aka, the $50 million damage total is unsourced. Elijahandskip (talk) 04:06, 25 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

I'll go one step further and remove it entirely, seeing as neither French nor English sources have mentioned any sort of damage figure for Guadeloupe. In fact, I saw a report saying officials only went out to assess damage on Saturday 24 September, meaning any figure thrown out beforehand is likely smoke. FWIW the figure was added along with the table in this edit with no supporting reference - entirely possible that the figure was introduced/left there by mistake when the table structure was copied over from some other article. ~ KN2731 {talk · contribs} 05:32, 25 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Cannolis (talk) 01:05, 28 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Under the Eastern Canada section, the insured losses should be in CAD, not USD. The article in citation 84 is from the Canadian Press, and there is no mention of the currency. Because it was written by the Canadian Press and talks about Canadian provinces, it should be assumed that the values are in CAD. Davidflypei (talk) 13:51, 28 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Cost of damage of the storm

edit

What is the actual cost of damage that the hurricane caused? Some say it was $12 billion, while others say $2.68 billion. DENBRO1995 (talk) 19:52, 6 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

damage

edit

So last night i edited the damage total Fiona did to match the article on 2022 Atlantic hurricane season but my edits were reverted. Shouldn't it say the same total ($5.5 billion) as it says on 2022 Atlantic hurricane season? 24.115.255.37 (talk) 18:24, 3 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

I was the one who reverted your Good-faith edit. The problem was, the number you provided was NOT the number included in the citation that followed. Regards,   Aloha27  talk  19:22, 3 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
ok ill add the citation on 2022 Atlantic hurricane season 24.115.255.37 (talk) 17:41, 4 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Effects of Hurricane Fiona in Puerto Rico

edit

Hurricane Fiona caused extensive damage in Puerto Rico, so i believe we should make an article about its impacts in Puerto Rico. 2A00:23C8:9C7A:EC01:B89D:14F0:39FB:1700 (talk) 15:11, 9 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi. The impact the storm had in Puerto Rico is addressed here Regards,   Aloha27  talk  15:18, 9 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
But there is enough detail to make an article about it 2A00:23C8:9C7A:EC01:99F:53F2:EE95:6520 (talk) 10:46, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm not 100% sure what you want to do here. IS the impact on Puerto Rico MORE significant than any other area affected by the storm? Has the area not been affected by other storms in the past? What would the title of the article be? "Hurricane Fiona Puerto Rico"? I can almost guarantee that such an article, if it were to be created would end up being declined anyway. Regards,   Aloha27  talk  15:10, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
yeah, but we should make an article about it to make a better understanding and more information, and just because other storms have impacted the area badly before, DOES NOT mean you should overshadow its effects because of a more devastating storm, and i do not care if they reject it, make one anyway, you never know. 2A00:23C8:9C7A:EC01:DDC9:E036:7262:1C4F (talk) 15:16, 15 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Give it a shot if you wish. I've given my 2 cents worth as to what will likely happen. Good luck!   Aloha27  talk  17:37, 15 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Death in PEI

edit

Under the "Impact" section, the Eastern Canada part says "another person died of carbon monoxide poisoning while operating an electrical generator in Prince Edward Island."

The person referenced died of a heart attack while starting up a generator. Nowhere does the article linked mention carbon monoxide poisoning; it says the cause of death had yet to be determined and "a preliminary investigation suggests that generator issues MAY have played a role."

The person in question is referenced in this article, which mentions the heart attack, though nothing about the generator: https://www.peicanada.com/eastern_graphic/barn-collapses-trapping-animals-inside/article_d448a496-3e93-11ed-8158-230f76522f28.html

I didn't remove this bit yet but it should be. The death may have been partly due to stress from the storm but was not directly caused by the storm. Yellowjournalism (talk) 18:24, 21 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

A woman also died as a result of Hurricane Fiona in Port aux Basques, Newfoundland, Canada. Houses were washed out to sea. A state of emergency was declared. 137.186.18.114 (talk) 15:58, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
