Title capitalization

edit

The title of this article, along with a provision at MOS:LDS, violates MOS:THEINST, a site-wide guideline which trumps WP:LOCALCONSENSUS. Please participate in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Latter Day Saints § Capitalization issue. Thanks. InfiniteNexus (talk) 05:16, 27 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

BoM "sodomy"

edit

In the "In canonized scripture" section it says that the BoM doesn't sound off on homosexuality, however 2 Nephi :13 9 (which is essentially Nephi's copy-paste of Isaiha) mentions people "...declare(ing) their sin to be even as Sodom..." Should this count as the BoM sounding off? I'm not sure if it's even talking about Sodom's homosexuality. Adeeta (talk) 17:25, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

I don't think this is the Book of Mormon discussing homosexuality. One source states that 1800's understanding of the term "sodomy" and the specific sins of Sodom did not imply homosexuality, and explicitly states that the Book of Mormon reference to the sins of Sodom was not including homosexual acts.[1] Pastelitodepapa (talk) 04:04, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Split proposed

edit

To increase readability I propose to split the section on mixed orientation marriage into its own article Mixed-orientation marriage and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and then summarize the new article in that section of this main article for conciseness and scope. Currently this article has 6,400 words of prose in the body of the article (over the 6,000 recommended for where splitting becomes an option per WP:SIZERULE). That section has 700 words of prose (well above the under-300 designation as a stub article per WP:STUB) so it's already enough text to be it's own article. I'd, additionally, like to expand it with examples and sources as it's a big topic with potential that even had its own TLC show (My Husband's Not Gay). The split would be in line with previous splits like Sexual orientation change efforts and the LDS Church, LGBT rights and the LDS Church, and BYU LGBT history. Any objections or suggestions?
