editThis page needs a lot of work. Much is taken from the Chinese Australian chronology section but that isn't very good information anyway because it mostly talks about NSW and misses so much about Chinese peoples in the other states of Australia. I'll be working on it steadily over the next few months. Sir Langan (talk) 04:42, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
Sui Dynasty
editThere some be some more about the pre-British contact between China and Australia, as some of the fragmental records from the Sui Dynasty seem to indicate. -- 70.24.244.158 (talk) 09:21, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
- The only pre-British contact I've heard of was based on evidence in north Australia of trading links. If you have something else I'd love to read your source.Sir Langan (talk) 02:28, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
Picture formatting.
editI can't get the format for that picture right. It should be in a box with the caption I've written but instead it's just sitting there and the caption comes up when your cursor is on the picture.Sir Langan (talk) 03:42, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
Name change and disambiguation??
editI just noticed that for America there is a similar page to this one. It however is called History of Chinese Americans which makes a lot of sense. Should the name of this page be changed to the History of Chinese Australians? Also when/if that is changed how do you make disambiguation or redirect links or whatever? That is beyond my current ability. Sir Langan (talk) 00:48, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- Is the context the same? Were there similar migration patterns, as in, have most Chinese who came to Australia become Australians? If so I would move the page to your suggested name. Page moves are easily done by selecting move from the downward facing arrow to the left of the search box above. More information can be found at WP:MOVE. If you ever need help type "WP:abc" where abc is a keyword into the search box. - Shiftchange (talk) 00:49, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- The history is very, very similar. There was a little bit more racism and violence over there in America. Most of the Chinese who came to Australia in the 19th century returned to China but that was also true with American history. I will change the name eventually. I need to figure out how to have redirects though so that History of Chinese in Australia will link automatically to History of Chinese Australians.Sir Langan (talk) 23:53, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- Done. To meet the WP:BCLASS criteria the article needs two or three times as many citations. The sections with no references need immediate attention. - Shiftchange (talk) 01:34, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. Yes I'm getting to references and sources. I've got a big pile of books to reference I've just got to reread them to find where I got the information I know if that makes sense. There is still a lot of work I've yet to do on this page.Sir Langan (talk) 02:55, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Reference Formatting
editI'm unsure on the formatting of some of the references. Particularly websites. I've seen many different styles and formats. A lot of that formatting stuff goes over my head. Any help would be appreciated. Sir Langan (talk) 00:18, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
- looking at some other pages this probably needs to be a page with notes and a bibliography. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sir Langan (talk • contribs) 00:59, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
- Yes it may be best. I've done that once or twice. Alternatively you can just list a few pages, probably no more than five, in one reference by using a comma in the page field. - Shiftchange (talk) 01:40, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
