Should this article be renamed Hong Kong Government? That's the short form actually used. — Instantnood 06:22, 29 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

no, keep consistency with other articles. "Government of Country" and "Foo of Country". Tobias Conradi (Talk) 19:33, 20 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Those are topical articles about countries, this article is not. — Instantnood 20:33, 20 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
and this leads to the conclusion to not use same-structure article names? Tobias Conradi (Talk) 12:02, 24 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
Hmm.. they're not actually referring to exactly the same thing, despite the same words. The government of the United States and government of France articles are topical that talk about all three branches of government, while this article specifically talks about the executive organ, which is parallel to examples such as Scottish Executive, Government of Sweden or Government of the United Kingdom. — Instantnood 12:54, 24 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
This should be changed. Are you english native? What would you suggest for the whole cat. I would not like to rely on subtle differences like "G o HK" vs "HK G". It seems as if the 3-branch-article GoHK is missing? Topical articles seem to be needed to me, is there a better (more neutral) wording than GoFoo for them? Or do you have a solution how to call the executive branches? Tobias Conradi (Talk) 20:08, 24 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
The topical government of Foo article is missing for many countries, usually redirected and covered by the politics of Foo article. There's no easy solution since the English word government possesses slightly different and closely related meanings, and it is what the executive organs are officially called in some countries. Unlike languages like German that have different words (Regierung and Staatsgewalt) for different meanings, there's only one word in English. — Instantnood 20:29, 24 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
and the US usage of "Administration" does not make things much better. How about all topical to GoFoo? Then the current HK should be moved. Which Blabla by country cat would it go to (if it is a country at all, but I don't want to go into that discusion)? What to do with SE (sweden) and UK? Tobias Conradi (Talk) 09:10, 25 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
Topical "government of Foo" articles only exist for a few countries. For most countries it's covered by the "politics of Foo" articles. Don't think there's a general rule to title the articles on the executive organs of other countries, since that depends on how those countries named their executive organs, e.g. "Government of Foo", "Fooian Government", "Fooian Executive", etc. As for category, category:government of Scotland and category:Scottish Executive is a good example to follow. — Instantnood 11:24, 25 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Move request

edit

To move this article about the executive branch to Hong Kong Government, which is its conventional and officially used short name. The government of Hong Kong should be a topical article on the government aspect, i.e. the three branches. — Instantnood 11:21, 9 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • The official title is "Government of the Hong Kong Special Adminsitrative Region of the People's Republic of China", and it refers only to the executive branch, which officially used short name is "Hong Kong Government". The "government of Hong Kong" article should be a topical article, like that of the US, France, Japan for instance. — Instantnood 09:20, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Important notice

edit

The government section of the "Outline of Hong Kong" needs to be checked, corrected, and completed -- especially the subsections for the government branches.

When the country outlines were created, temporary data (that matched most of the countries but not all) was used to speed up the process. Those countries for which the temporary data does not match must be replaced with the correct information.

Please check that this country's outline is not in error.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact The Transhumanist .

Thank you.

Name of the article

edit

Should the name of this article be called "Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region"? Semantically, the term Hong Kong Government refers to the colonial government, between 1842 to 1997. Bourquie (talk) 09:35, 1 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've just protected the article for 48 hours to end the current edit war (protection applied on whatever version is current at this time - please see m:The Wrong Version before complaining!). Nick-D (talk) 08:02, 14 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Wrong move. What you ought to have done is blocked the IP user who was deleting sourced material and refusing to provide any edit summary whatsoever to explain such deletions. It's a no-brainer, if WP has any brains. sirlanz 08:05, 14 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Executive authorities

edit

Is there a reason that the lede says the HKSAR Government "is the executive authorities of Hong Kong" rather than the executive authority (subject-verb agreement, as it is a single entity) or simply the executive, as suggested by the article that is linked? It seems like a typographical error but perhaps the use of plural has meaning I don't apprehend.

The executive (or executive branch) is usually a part of a government, not the government entire. Are other usual governmental functions that complement executive power, like legislative and judicial functions, external to the HKSAR Government as described in this article? Should the first line of this article not say "holds the executive power for Hong Kong" or (tautologically) "is the government of Hong Kong"? 3580ca (talk) 20:15, 22 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
