Orphaned references in Fifth generation of video game consoles

edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Fifth generation of video game consoles's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "Kent_493_496":

Reference named "Allgame32X":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 23:28, 19 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Fifth generation of video game consoles. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

Shouldn't we use a picture of the PlayStation with its original controller?

edit

Other articles in this series show systems that have multiple major revisions with the original forms of their controllers and then later forms. The first and second Genesis and SG-1000 vs Mark III/Master System for example. On this article though we only see the PlayStation with the DualShock controller, not the original D-Pad only version. The DualShock didn't come out until 3 years after the system launched. Wouldn't it be a good idea to replace the first image of the PlayStation from the Home systems area with one with the original controller? Lando242 (talk) 03:21, 4 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sounds reasonable to me. I say go for it.--Martin IIIa (talk) 21:04, 14 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Every Colors entry in the Video table is totally wrong

edit

The author actually multiplies the resolution to get the number of pixels and calls that number of colors, from a palette that is always 24bit. That's a totally wrong way to describe number of colors (one has to find the info or know the system). I might spend some time to correct some of this later, unless someone does it first. I don't know about most systems but for example I am pretty sure about the 3DO as I develop for it. I do know that the framebuffer is 15bit (32768 colors), although there is a process in the DAC that will scale up and interpolate 240p to 480p where full 24bit is used. But the actual videoram is 15bit without a palette (although some texture formats can be paletized indexed from the same 15bit depth). I am not sure yet how to correct the other entries as I am not familiar with the other consoles (however, a look at the individual wiki entries on each console or some FAQ might help) but I know they are all totally wrong and based on the same wrong assumption.

why I think 3DO should be in other consoles

edit

from what I can tell, 3DO isn't really 3D, it sorta blurred the difference between movies and games, instead of displaying 3D, it displays FMV (full motion video) although CD Rom add ons and Philips CDI basically do the same thing, It even went out of its way to insult Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis calling them "Baby Toys" even though most people owned them and not many people owned a 3DO so it came and went and now is just a curious piece of history. 3Do was pretty rare and didn't sell very well — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rowbro (talkcontribs) 21:32, 29 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Rowbro: None of this changes which generation is occurred in or what reliable sourcing says. Do you have any sourcing that states it belongs to some other generation? If you make this disruptive edit again, you will likely be blocked. You've already been given final warnings for these disruptive unsourced edits. -- ferret (talk) 22:39, 29 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

This is not a reliable source. Please read WP:V and WP:RS as you've been directed to before. -- ferret (talk) 00:02, 30 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

I'm not saying 3DO should be in fourth generation, I'm just saying that I think it should be in other consoles--Rowbro (talk) 21:57, 2 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

And yet, reliable sources don't agree with that view, such as https://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/console_generations/zvcjkty -- ferret (talk) 23:13, 2 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Atari jaguar needs to be added

edit

Atari jaguar should be added as it was the last atari console and was one of the first 5th generation consoles. 184.166.13.170 (talk) 19:46, 24 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

It's already in the article. -- ferret (talk) 19:55, 24 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Concerns on Add-ons Comparison Table

edit

I like the idea of it, but both the Jaguar CD and the Nintendo 64 DD are essentially media readers and nothing more. There are a lot of holes in the table because of this. Before this I had included the 32x in the main hardware comparison table, and while I was pleased with it I understand if some think it didn't belong. In my opinion treating the 32x as the proto-saturn it is makes the main comparison table much more interesting. PiersyPiersy (talk) 18:55, 9 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

FM Towns Marty Fourth Generation

edit

FM Towns Marty is a fourth generation console, but it’s listed here as a fifth generation console? Doremon764 (talk) 21:38, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

See the talk page for the fourth gen where an IP insisted on moving it. I just got tired of arguing at the time. -- ferret (talk) 21:40, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
