Sutton's obituary and some biographies say he served in the Union Army during the American Civil War, but provide no additional details. I searched diligently, and while I found a reference indicating he registered for the draft, I found no evidence of his name in any enlistment documents, payrolls, muster rolls, discharges, or pension records. As a result, I have not included anything about his supposed military service in the Wikipedia article.
