Name
editStrictly speaking, and according to the Commission de Toponymie, this name should be spelt Dollard-Des Ormeaux, since "Dollard des Ormeaux" is a person's name, and capitals but not hyphens are used with nobiliary particles (i.e. it's not the same case as, say, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue or Rivière-du-Loup.) However, one rarely sees the Dollard-Des Ormeaux formulation -- yet -- and Dollard-des-Ormeaux is still most common for the time being. - Montréalais
67% of the population of Dollard-Des Ormeaux uses English or other languages at home, while only 21% uses French. The town has a substantial and rapidly-growing Jewish community. That's 88. The rest is mute? Peter Horn 05:09, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
- You won't be able to find every single percent for a small town. 67.71.189.35 11:11, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Separation?
edit"Prior to the 1980 Quebec referendum on sovereignty, Dollard-des-Ormeaux became the only municipality in the province to pass a motion declaring that it would join the province of Ontario in the event of a "yes" vote." Can anyone actually confirm this? 67.71.189.35 11:11, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- I entered this statement in the article as an unregistered IP user and despite all my efforts, I cannot verify it online. I was raised in DDO and was 22 at the time and I remember it happening, but I know this may fall under the title of "original research." Cut it if you wish. Neutral point of view
editDDO has extensive areas of townhouses, apartments and condo that cannot be deemed as exclusive to "upper middle class." Furthermore, taxes may be higher than some others areas on the island but I see no evidence to suggest that they are so high as to be scaring off residents. If no citation is provided, I will be cutting this. Thanks, Shawn in Montreal 20:21, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Upscale??
editWould anyone really consider DDO to be "upscale" as in the current revision? DDO has a large and varied demographic, from humble, even dilapidated homes in the Northern Sunnyside/Gouin area to the more wealthy middle class homes of Westpark or Tecumseh. Misterjerk2 (talk) 01:41, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
- Would you by any chance have sources to the details about the demographics within DDO? For example which classes of people at which districts/areas. Knightdaemon (talk) 20:06, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
- DDO always thought it was upscale but I'm not sure that the town as a whole ever did qualify as "upscale". Parts? Yes. Most? No. The townhouses along Lake Rd already had a poor reputation in the 1980s. Can't imagine what it's like now! --plaws (talk) 17:32, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Centennial Park
editThe hills in the park were still overgrown dirt/gravel piles with much erosion -- not to mention fenced off -- into the early 1980s at least, so I think the "completion" date needs some additional work. --plaws (talk) 17:32, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec → Dollard-des-Ormeaux – I am ready for the first requested move of this new year. This article Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec will rename into Dollard-des-Ormeaux without the province name. This new title is going to match the related Canadian city titles. I already create the category titled Category:People from Dollard-des-Ormeaux without the province name. The article might propose requested renaming at anytime. For example Montreal, Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivières, Quebec City etc. all have titles without the province name. There are no other cities of Dollard-des-Ormeaux in the world. And this is the largest city in the Montreal region outside Montreal and one of the largest cities in Quebec. Steam5 (talk) 06:13, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- This doesn't look controversial. You could probably just go ahead and do it. Canadian guidelines discourage unnecessary disambiguation. Rennell435 (talk) 12:37, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Support. Meets the criteria at WP:CANSTYLE. Can be distinguished from Adam Dollard des Ormeaux with a hatnote. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 20:22, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- I agree, just move it without discussion, per current WP:CANSTYLE, ensuring that this place is the primary subject (or only one) for this given name. Mindmatrix 20:45, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Support -- no obvious ambiguity. Peterkingiron (talk) 14:15, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
- Ah! I see why. There are edits to the target page, so an admin will have to do this one. Rennell435 (talk) 17:51, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
