Reported or announced
editThe safest way to know someone is in the cast is to wait for the official announcement. Otherwise, there are reports by sources such as Entertainment Tonight and People.com. Are there any thoughts? I am removing Cheryl Burke from the couples table because her participation was reported by Entertainment Tonight and not officially confirmed by the show or ABC. I also think whatever we decide we should try to be consistent. If we are going to include Burke, then there are a few celebrities that are similarly reported but not confirmed. Any thoughts? - The talk page is here for discussion. We should use it to reach consensus as to what sources we will accept for this articl. Knope7 (talk) 18:33, 1 September 2017 (UTC)
As far as I know, Drew Scott is the only one that has officially been confirmed. Entertainment Tonight is reporting certain people, but until September 6th announcement on Good Morning America, we should probably the ones that haven't been confirmed on GMA. - Yes, @BIK89:, that is accurate. The issue we need to discuss is do we add names based on sources like Entertainment Tonight and if we do include them how do we communicate that these are leaks and not the official word yet. Unfortunately several editors are simply editing without discussion so there is no stability here. Knope7 (talk) 18:43, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
@Knope7:, Entertainment Tonight is more like a gossip show. I don't trust anything that is on there, unless it is confirmed. As for Dancing with the Stars, for the last several seasons, Good Morning America has always been the place where the official announcement is made. Tom Bergeron is scheduled to appear on there Wednesday to announce them so, my opinion would be to wait until then as Drew Scott is also the only one listed on the DWTS Facebook page. Also Cheryl was not included in the pro announcement. BIK89 (talk) 19:55, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
- Entertainment Tonight, People, E!, and Us Weekly have all reported cast members, most of them have the same lists. I think it's highly probable that these lists are correct. My position is that if we are going to be relying on these sources, it should be clear it is coming from these sources in the text. I would not object to removing everyone but Drew as he is the only one who has been officially announced but at this point I'm not reverting it anymore because I'm tired of the back and forth. Knope7 (talk) 20:05, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
I'll go ahead and remove them, unless someone else has a problem with it, and if it happens, we'll bring it up here. BIK89 (talk) 21:34, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
@Sharkman720:, per this link, I have removed the unconfirmed names, while it is highly possible that they could be correct and leaked, its safe to wait until Wednesday morning's official announcement to add them in, to confirm them. BIK89 (talk) 02:33, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
- I agree it's safer to wait for the official announcement. On the other hand, we have used reliable sources in the past. For example, right now we're using a People story about the troupe, and I have no reason to doubt its list of troupe dancers. (Separately, I've heard that Jenna won't be appearing live on the show until the third week, since she is committed to remain with So You Think You Can Dance until its season ends on September 25, and the last two weeks of that show air live at exactly the same time as the first two episodes of DWTS air, and she can't be in two places at once.) BlueMoonset (talk) 04:57, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
- Good point, although I see the troupe issue as slightly different as the official DWTS social media accounts have confirmed the troupe. People has been reporting "exclusives" but the cast names appear to be separate from those exclusives. I agree waiting is probably best at this point although I remain open to adding the leaks in a way that explains them more carefully. Knope7 (talk) 12:05, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

Terrell Owens was announced as Cheryl Burke's partner on Good Morning America today-the official DancingABC twitter confirms it too https://twitter.com/DancingABC/status/905048230299394049 64.215.234.33 (talk) 13:13, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
- Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. A simple tweet direct from DancingABC is not enough to establish the confirmation. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 18:44, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
Best i could find, given this announcement took place on live TV... http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/nfl-star-terrell-owens-compete-season-25-dancing/story?id=49614338 64.215.234.33 (talk) 20:49, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
Known for (and sourcing)
editTime for our traditional debate over how to describe what the celebrities are known for. I suggest we find a reliable source and abide by what that source uses. TVline seems to have succinct descriptors in its gallery here.
Also, we had sourcing on the cast table for the first two announced, now the column is completely empty. We should provide a source for the full cast list and pairings. It's great that there are so many editors paying attention to this article and contributing, but I find it endlessly frustrating that editors seem to work against each other. With all of the attention on this page it should be in top shape. I hope we can start to use this talk page to discuss and resole issues. Knope7 (talk) 03:18, 7 September 2017 (UTC)
