Talk:Dakota County, Minnesota

Wondering how to edit this U.S. County Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Counties standards might help.

Map-Quest aside, i'm surprised also at the idea of any of Northfield being in Dakota County. But it appears not to have been put in the article by hand, so it is unlikely to be a clerical error. I would propose this text:

  • Northfield (At least 90% of the town is in Rice County, but apparently for census purposes a portion of Dakota County's population is described as part of Northfield.) --Jerzy 07:50, 2004 Feb 12 (UTC)

Lakes

edit
  • I've added a lakes section with all of the lakes that are within (or partially within) a discernible township. There are many more lakes in the county, but I'm not sure how to list them. They are all in the incorporated area of the county i.e. in the northern part which is considered (I think) to be part of the Metro area. The only thing I can think to do is something like the following:
  • Marion Lake: about a mile northwest of Lakeville
  • Any suggestions in this matter would be appreciated.--Hraefen 18:52, 25 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • There are LOTS of lakes in Dakota County and many fall on the border of pond or wetland yet are called lake. And then there are retaining ponds which may very well be their own lake. A common solution is to simply name "notable" or important lakes based on for example if a newspaper would mention it and whether it would enter into usual conversation. Thus thus sort of gives us a cop-out and later on people can add more lakes should they deem necessary. WP doesn't like lists so it would prefer to know whats most important rather than the DNR itinerary of Dakota County. I'll assemble it. .:DavuMaya:. 08:09, 13 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Time for improvements!

edit

I'm making Dakota Cty and Bville my next Wiki projects. I will be using the Dakota County history publications to put together a history section as well as figure out how to churn the template into it. Sounds good, I've been wanting to do the history of Farmington for a while too, so maybe this will motivate me ;) --Greyduk 02:01, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dakotah or Dahkotah?

edit

Formerly, the page suggested that in old Cencus records, it was known as Dakotah County. I changed it, because I have seen several maps of MN territory, and all of them suggest the name as "Dahkotah."--Moland freak (talk) 15:53, 26 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dakota vs Sioux

edit

The quick facts state it was named after the Dakota people but the link takes you to “Sioux” even though there’s a “Dakota people” page. CyberSecurityGuy (talk) 20:26, 22 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
