Talk:Creatures (1990 video game)

Incorrect Title

edit

The title of this article should be Creatures, as that was the title of the game. Clyde Radcliff Exterminates All The Unfriendly Repulsive Earth-ridden Slime is just what the acroymn 'Creatures' stood for and not the name of the game.

What does "Earth-ridden" mean anyway? English is not my native language so I don't know every word of it. JIP | Talk 15:21, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
It means the slime (the monsters) are from Earth, or that they are full of earth. It's a backronym invented by the designers, so they probably just went with Earth-Ridden because they couldn't think of anything else starting with E-R. I'll move the article as well, the previous comment is correct. Mikkel 19:55, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! This has had me puzzled for well over a decade. I have understood "Clyde Radcliffe" is a name, and I have known what extermination is, and what unfriendly, repulsive slime is, but I have never encountered the word "Earth-ridden" anywhere until I saw the name of this game when it was first released. And I haven't seen it anywhere after that, either. JIP | Talk 20:14, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
No problem! :) I'm planning to do some more work on the Apex/Thalamus/Creatures articles in the coming weeks as well; if you're interested keep an eye out... Mikkel 02:06, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
No, "Clyde Radcliffe Exterminates All The Unfriendly Repulsive Earth-ridden Slime" is the correct full title. It's not "according to the documentation," the title is there in plain sight on the game's title screen, as well as on the game box.
On both John and Steve Rowlands' softography CV at the Infinite Lives website, it clearly states that the name of the game they created is "Creatures" and not "Clyde Radcliffe Exterminates All The Unfriendly Repulsive Earth-ridden Slime". --Mathsgeek 21:01, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I just checked, they definitely refer to it as Creatures themselves, also in the Zzap!64 interviews & production diary for Creatures II. If anything, it's a subtitle; the real title is arguably Creatures. Mikkel 12:53, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
