Game Engine
editDoes anyone know the name of the game engine (i.e., middleware) used in the development of Contra 4? Is it third-party or in-house? Aeonassoc 15:14, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Small Question about Black Viper
editThe article mentions that he is a new enemy however the Nintendo Power article states that as Red Falcon's second in command and the main villain of Operation C. Can somone more knowledgable of the series be able to confirm or deny this? Also can the article please be udated if need be. --65.95.16.87 18:37, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Black Viper was only mentioned in the American localization of Operation C. In the original Japanese plot (and the canon followed by Shattered Soldier), the main villains were really just an unnamed foreign country. Jonny2x4 17:26, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- However, Contra 4 is American produced, and in a Gamespot E3 interview, the interviewee clearly stated that Black Viper "Was Back". Also remember that as far as the developers of Contra 4 are concerned, Shattered Soldier (And everything except Contra, Super C, and Alien Wars) is not canon.
- So I guess he's new as far as this game's canon goes, but returning as far as the character himself goes. The suicide forest 08:14, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- Not neccesarily. It's titled Contra 4 because it takes place after Alien Wars (and before the other Contra games that came after it). It doesn't neccesarily "retcon" the events of the later games. Jonny2x4 05:26, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- Calling any game after Contra III non-canon would really be a diservice to all the hardcore fans. It's possible to assume that Black Viper is the same foreign country that the japanese plot refers to. Gencoil 16:36, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

You need not worry. Probotector is unlockable. The official site's announcement confirms it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.77.232.145 (talk) 06:22, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
PocketNES
editIn the game's credits, they give a special thanks to Neal Tew for creating PocketNES. This has caused some people to speculate as to whether any code from PocketNES was included in their NES emulator.--Dwedit (talk) 12:28, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
the games on the DS cart are definately not conversions. they are emulated. it seems exactly the same as nesds to me —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.138.167.124 (talk) 19:02, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
Mobile Version?
editI found it very curious how it was never mentioned in this article, this article implies it as only one version which is for the DS. —Preceding unsigned comment added by PhilipFU (talk • contribs) 23:28, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Updated Plot section
editCite sources for the Contra 4 storyline are taken from opening cutscene seen in a longplay on Archive.org, two instruction booklet pages from a Wordpress blog (only the images are cited taken and none of the content from the blog), and from "The History of Contra" official e-book from Konami included with the Contra Anniversary Collection.Thecleanerand (talk) 00:02, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
