deletion
editUser:Epeefleche proposed deletion. The edit was reverted by User:Steam5. I support Steam5's intervention, but will provide a rationale for future reference: This mall is notable because it was the first in Ottawa. Agree, that this article should be better sourced, but the sources certainly exist. May be difficult to find some, but they are out there. Will try to look into this when I get a moment. - Do you have an RS ref for that? Or the rest of the article that is unsourced, for that matter? Most of the article, including that claim, is completely unsourced, and if you can find RS sourcing that would be great. I've tagged the article, and if sources are not found will act on on the tag. Tx. --Epeefleche (talk) 14:35, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
- I remember some articles in the Ottawa Citizen from some years ago discussing the mall's history and future. Will try to find them, but may take a bit of digging. Peregrine981 (talk) 15:04, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
- I assume you're still digging for it ... unless you meant "first strip mall." Best. Epeefleche (talk) 23:11, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, first strip mall. That seems to be what the sources concur on. Is that sufficient to establish notability? It would seem to me that there are more than enough sources discussing this subject in enough depth to justify an article.Peregrine981 (talk) 12:19, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

Fact check
editCan anyone fact check the claim in the article, to an off-line article, that in 1962 it was the largest shopping centre in Ottawa? I note that an article a year prior apparently "claimed 'the new centre ... will become ... one of the largest shopping plazas in the district.'" Tx. --Epeefleche (talk) 23:53, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
- hmm. well, it says "According to a Nov. 15, 1961, Citizen article announcing the plans, the expansion would give Billings Bridge 23 stores, making it "second to none" in the region." Do we take that to be the largest? I guess not, although it could be implied. Peregrine981 (talk) 10:39, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- I would suspect that is more likely to relate to the claim that it will be "one of the finest in the country". That idiom refers to being "better", generally. See here. I would propose deleting that, as being unsupported. Epeefleche (talk) 17:17, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- sure, agreed. Peregrine981 (talk) 20:45, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- Another. The text has been revised to read: "It is a medium-sized community mall with about 100 stores." But the ref used to support that doesn't, as best I can tell, speak of medium-sized. Or 100 stores. Am I missing something? Tx. Epeefleche (talk) 21:57, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- Third fact check. The article asserts it has two anchors. Without refs. But a 2005 article says it lacks an anchor. Thoughts? Epeefleche (talk) 22:00, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- I've updated the article; property fact sheet cites two anchors, as do pretty much all other sources. The 2005 article says it has a "lack of a major anchor department store". Not that it lacks an anchor, rather a "major" one. (Which I guess may not be true any more now that Target is there). Property sheet now says it has 87 stores, although an earlier one cited 100. I think they may have closed some to make way for an enlarged Target, but just speculation on my part. Any rate, the 87 has a firm citation now; "medium" can be inferred from the rest of the article, which I think is ok as it is in the lead. Several of the OBJ articles talk about how it isn't a small mall, but isn't either a regional level mall. Peregrine981 (talk) 22:25, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- PS, I've rounded it off to "about 90" because the number will likely fluctuate. Doesn't seem necessary to be over-specific in this context. Peregrine981 (talk) 22:28, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
