Sourcing

edit

This article is in serious need of sourcing. I don't have time to track down any right now, so I'm hoping those who've done most of the work on this can provide some. - Kathryn NicDhàna 06:47, 29 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

It looks to me that most of the article is written by participants from the event itself. What is wikipedia's position on reporting on events from a personal perspective? I would suggest that the Beltane Fire Festival in Edinburgh suffers from the same 'problem' as many other folk events - that because the participants place greater importance on oral than written communication there is little self-publication and hence outsiders/academics dispute its existence.

Beltane has been reported by local papers in degrees of accuracy every year since its beginning, and there are at least two completed university dissertations and one PhD work in progress describing aspects of the event. I think that detailed descriptions may eventually be published from within Beltane Fire Society and more likely the event is waiting for the "great anthopological white man" to come along and describe it ;-) regards --mgaved (talk) 14:07, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Ancient" Beltane

edit

Since there seems to be some controversy about the "ancient" designation of Beltane as well as the date, I've provided citations to verify this. Adding words like "supposed" and "allegedly" is just a variation of weasel words. Frankly, this shows lack of knowledge of the older calendar and celebration rather than knowledgeable doubt and skepticism. Pigman☿/talk 17:04, 3 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've changed the title from "procession" to the "the current procession 2006" as the festival is very organic in nature and open to change every year. For example in 2006 there was an entirely new segment of interaction between the elements during the Red Mens charge that isn't described here. I'll possibly update the information when I've got time.
