Conflict of interest
editAt least one major contributor to this draft article appears to have a close personal or professional connection to the topic, and thus to have a conflict of interest. Conflict-of-interest editors are strongly discouraged from editing the page directly, but are always welcome to propose changes on the talk page (i.e., here). You can attract the attention of other editors by putting {{request edit}} (exactly so, with the curly parentheses) at the beginning of your request, or by clicking the link on the lowest yellow notice above. Requests that are not supported by independent reliable sources are unlikely to be accepted.
Please also note that our Terms of Use state that "you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation." An editor who contributes as part of his or her paid employment is required to disclose that fact. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:40, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
No Conflict of Interest
editThe topic of this Wiki entry is a professional organization. Thus, the people who add to the Wiki entry are professionals in the field! We love chemoreception, and want to tell others about it. We are a volunteer organization; we are not paid for our service. The content (which keeps being removed) talks about illness associated to smell and taste, which is devastating to many individuals. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WhiteTL (talk • contribs) 20:44, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
- WhiteTL, it sounds as if you are connected in some way to the association. If so, you do indeed have a conflict of interest. Please understand that this is an encyclopaedia, not a social networking site. Wikipedia is not a soapbox – it isn't the place for people to tell others about all the great stuff they are doing, however worthy that stuff may be. The only thing we are interested in here is what has been written about this body in independent reliable sources. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:56, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
It has come to my attention that content regarding the annual meeting posted earlier this week by someone who does not have a close relationship with the organization was taken down. There was no conflict of interest violation so that posting/edit should have been permitted.
OTRS Issue
editI do not understand this problem, the OTRS from Achems.org is on file and therefore content that is similar to the content on the Achems.org website should be permitted: The content of this article has been derived in whole or part from http://achems.org/. - Rachelherz, it sounds as if you are connected in some way to the association. If so, you have a conflict of interest, and are obliged to declare it here (just as you would be obliged to declare any conflict of interest when publishing in a reputable journal). Please understand that this is an encyclopaedia, not a social networking site. Wikipedia is not a soapbox – it isn't the place for people to tell others about all the great stuff they are doing, however worthy that stuff may be. The only thing we are interested in here is what has been written about this body in independent reliable sources.
- Proper permission to use content from the association's website has indeed been received and logged by OTRS. That permission includes the sentence "I acknowledge that I cannot withdraw this agreement, and that the content may or may not be kept permanently on a Wikimedia project" (my bold-face). Editors here are under no obligation whatsoever to make any use at all of that content if it is not considered suitable for an encyclopaedia article. In practice, content released in this way is hardly ever used in this project, as the tone of a website is rarely sufficiently neutral – most people, companies and organisations blow their own trumpets in a more or less blatant fashion. The place for that sort of content is … the website of the association. It's already there. Why would we need or want to duplicate it here?
- If you can point to independent reliable sources that say something about this body, please do so here, on this page. An article in the New York Times? A chapter in a book on professional associations? If reliable sources aren't added to the page, it's at risk of being nominated for deletion at any time as non-WP:notable.
