Idhin

edit

Does anyone know what a "idhin" is? Google didn't give any useful links. Jth299 01:43, 11 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

- idhin is authorisation. The line or 'isnad' of the tariqa (lit. pathway) is the living transmission of Quranic knowledge from Muhammad s.a.w.s. to the present via the line of teaching masters or shaykhs. The student recieves idhin to instruct from an existing shaykh - and his authority comes from Allah. s.w.t.

Idhn for teaching Sufism however finally comes from Allah and His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

Personally, it is quite clear that these two pages should be merged. I have no idea how that is done though.

in english please, and with a source thats accessible. otherwises, its original research, or based on personal knowledge, which doesnt cut it here. its really annoying how the articles on Islam are so heavily dominated by believers, rather than more neutral scholars. "S.A.W.S." and "may Allah bless him and grant him peace" are beautiful expressions of faith, which have no business here. How am i, a non muslim, supposed to read these articles or comments and actually learn? it appears the only way i can learn these things is to become a muslim. I want to be able to read articles on religions here and understand them without converting. can we please try to not write to our fellow co-religionists, but to the educated or curious layperson? our personal religion should not be evident in our writings, though the subjects we choose to write about are often a clue, but not always.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 03:34, 27 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

This is, I believe, part of the problem. We have people on wikipedia who have a faulty understanding of Islam, and actually just with the nature of knowledge in general who are being given free reign to edit pages. "More neutral scholars" sounds like a compelling statement but even a slight examination shows it to be a faulty one. We don't attack scientists when they talk about science, often employing elaborate jargon that a layperson can't access and who are often fanatically devoted to protecting science from criticism, but Muslims talking about Islam is seemingly horrific and exclusionary. We respect actual experience and understanding in other fields (makes sense, trust the person who studies the topic) but when it comes to Islam, anyone is allowed an opinion no matter how little they actually know. More than a tad hypocritical and one suspects the undertones of something far less benign than concerns about accessibility is at work here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.145.64.112 (talk) 14:28, 5 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

These comments should be considered for the article, from Telegraph UK

"He says the Islamic world will conquer the "Jewish dominated" West, with a strict interpretation of Islamic law."-article writer.

"(Israel) knows that without its massive defence subsidy from the USA it could not last one financial year,"-quote from Abdalqadir

movies and football "degrade the proletariat". he has called for a Middle Eastern-style monarchy in Britain. -article writer

He claims Western governments stage terrorist acts to distract from the failure of capitalism. He says Richard Reid – the "shoe bomber" – and Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab – were both "planted" by the CIA. article writer

"It is time for the enslaved billions of our world today to fear no more the exploding shoes and underpants of the idiot agents of capitalism and to learn what Islam really is," quote from Abdalqadir

He says Britain is on "the edge of terminal decline and it is the "British Muslim population that alone can revitalise this ancient realm." Abdalqadir Mercurywoodrose (talk) 03:56, 27 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

I did just add the statement where he declares a fatwa against then pope benedict in 2006. he doesnt state what the punishment should be, leaving that to others, but he states that the pope insulted the prophet, an act of blasphemy in islam, typically requiring severe punishment, often, of course, death. I do not know if his fatwa has any weight outside his own group, but he makes it clear that a fatwa is a firm legal pronouncement, not just an opinion.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 04:22, 27 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

List of translations by his students

Thinking of removing these - not his work and no source verifying that the translators were her students. Does anyone have any views on this? Tacyarg (talk) 00:40, 17 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
