Move discussion in progress

edit

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Range imaging which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 19:47, 15 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't affect this page, it affects 3D imaging, a redirect to this page. North8000 (talk) 20:30, 15 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Titles and scope

edit

3D imaging redirects hers. Unlike 2D imaging, 3D imaging always requires some processing to create the 3d data / "image", but each method is commonly defined by the initial acquisition method. In real life they both cover the same thing, but from very different viewpoints and different choices for emphasis and de-emphasis. 3D reconstruction is more focused on the processing part of the process and views the creation of the electronic image as a "construction" process, and treats it somewhat abstractly. Searches indicate that the term "3D imaging" is about 3 times as common as "3d Reconstruction". So currently there is no "3D imaging" article, and the initial acquisition methods for 3D imaging are somewhat abstractly here and soft of indirectly, and some are not covered at all. Perhaps we should have a 3D imaging article. Alternatively, we could strengthen up the 3d imaging aspects of this article, including strengthening up coverage of the initial acquisition methods. Merging stereo vision

edit

3D_reconstruction#Stereo_vision should be merged into the main article Computer_stereo_vision and only a summary left behind. fgnievinski (talk) 04:12, 20 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
