Regarding AAP

edit

@Dhruv edits@ZDX@FlyJet777@Sachin126 and others : In Wikipedia article, AAP is shown as major contender for Haryana election. I don't think that AAP is a major contender for some reasons. (You can verify the points mentioned by me)

1. AAP (0.48%) had got less than NOTA (0.52%) votes in 2019 Haryana Legislative Assembly election.

2. It contested in 2019 Lok Sabha election in Haryana in alliance with JJP and got very less amount of votes.

3. Even some Haryana Congress leaders were completely against talks with AAP for alliance because AAP has no base in Haryana according to them.

Now, there can be question regarding the reason for which Congress left one Lok Sabha seat for AAP in 2024. Many reliable sources mentioned the fact that AAP gave 3 seats to Congress in Delhi following "give and take policy" by getting 1 seat in Haryana and 2 seats in Gujarat. Common logic also tells this fact.

Besides, AAP was told to be major contender (making 3 way contest) in Himachal Pradesh in 2022 election by many sources. After election, it was proved that AAP was nowhere in the political race in Himachal Pradesh which was confined between BJP and Congress. Now Wikipedia's policy is to add major contender before election. But AAP got less than NOTA votes with zero seats in 2017 Himachal Pradesh election. From that point view also, it was not a major contender for that election. I am taking Himachal Pradesh example to indicate the fact that the well known sources cannot always be trusted for determining major contender for election.

AAP can be added to others section in Parties and alliances. But adding its candidates is not logical. That's I feel. I am requesting the editors to notify their opinions. XYZ 250706 (talk) 05:05, 13 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

@XYZ 250706. You have listed past elections and original research, neither of which form the basis for deciding contenders for this election. We cannot decide contenders for an election based on an election that happened 5 years ago. This is why we use reliable sources. Please see MOS:INDELECT for this. Having this same discussion at every election is unnecessary. Multiple sources have listed AAP as a contender. 1 2 3 4 5. Dhruv edits (talk) 08:10, 13 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Dhruv edits@ZDX First of all, my point mentioning the fact that some Congress leaders have said about AAP's zero based in Haryana can be verified with reliable sources and example of Himachal Pradesh is also a real item of information, not a speculation. Besides AAP is contesting on 90 seats. Hence it is contestant on all 90 seats. So, the fight will be 5 cornered because 5 parties (or alliances) are contesting on all 90 seats. Every party contesting any seat will obviously be contender for that seat. That doesn't mean the party will have to be major contender. XYZ 250706 (talk) 11:16, 13 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Dhruv edits And also four of sources said 'likely'. This is one more fact. XYZ 250706 (talk) 11:26, 13 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@XYZ 250706 This is getting pointless now. Can't believe we are talking about what some politician is saying in a speech or interview. It is irrelevant what any politician says. We follow WP:RS, not any politician's campaign speeches. Your opinion, my opinion or any politician's opinion of some other party's position in a state is also irrelevant. To answer your other point, no. of seats is not the only measure of being a major contender. For eg - AAP contested the same no. of seasts in Karnataka assembly elections as JD(S), but they still weren't seen as a major contender by reliable sources. BSP and GGP alliance contested same no. of seats as INC and BJP in Chhattisgarh, but they were not a major contender in the election as per reliable sources. Unless you have anything to add from reliable sources, any discussion on political opinions here is futile. Dhruv edits (talk) 11:57, 13 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Previous elections can also be considered as source. ZDX (User) | (Contact) 12:47, 14 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, AAP should be added in "others", considering previous elections it is better to add it in "others". There is nothing 4 ways, INC and BJP are major parties and INLD is also one of major parties. JJP got 10 seats last time so it is added in lead, but AAP does not have any seat in Haryana, so it should be added in others. ZDX (User) | (Contact) 08:50, 13 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@ZDX We follow WP:RS in wikipedia, not original research or past election results. As per MOS:INDELECT, AAP will have its own section. Dhruv edits (talk) 09:59, 13 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Dhruv edits According to MOS:INDELECT if party gets any seat then it can be added after election results are announced. ZDX (User) | (Contact) 10:08, 13 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@ZDX. That's for parties that were not considered as contenders by WP:RS before the result. Dhruv edits (talk) 10:10, 13 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@ZDX@Dhruv edits [1] This source indicates that AAP is not a major contender. XYZ 250706 (talk) 19:25, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Alliances

edit

INC is giving external support to 1 candidate of CPI(M), therefore there is no alliance between INC and CPI(M). Gopal Kanda has declined any alliance with BJP, do not add HLP as BJP ally. 1. Dhruv edits (talk) 14:25, 17 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Dhruv edits, is HLP contesting in the other three seats? According to sources, there is an INLD-BSP-HLP alliance. If they are contesting in those seats, then should CPIM's participation in other seats also be included in the alliance? or it CPIM should be added in others. ZDX (User) | (Contact) 13:25, 20 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@ZDX HLP is contesting in 3 other seats. CPI(M) is contesting in only one seat, which is in alliance with INC. Dhruv edits (talk) 16:36, 20 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Satbir Bhana, runner-up in Pundri constituency, is an independent candidate. His party is wrongly mentioned as the INC in the Results section of the page.[1] Sakyy1ss (talk) 04:14, 9 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
