CorenSearchBot Error
editSearchbot incorrectly identified material from a 2012 Wikipedia page. When clicking the bing search tagged with the Searchbot, there was nothing in the results close to the suspected copied page.
The 2015 page is one of many team pages associated with specific US Collegiate football seasons. There are separate pages for each season. The searchbot apparently is finding a problem with the 2012 Lamar Cardinals football team Wikipedia page vs the 2015 Lamar Cardinals football team page. The 2012 page deals with 2012 events. The 2015 page is set up to discuss events which will occur in 2015.
I made a good faith effort to locate any possible copied material other than templates which carries over from year to year. If there is something else, please let me know, but I did not even refer to the 2012 equivalent of this page when building the 2015 page so I'm not sure how I could have copied material from the earlier page.
I suspect some fine tuning is in order for the searchbot to prevent erroneous results.

- Hi, LUSportsFan. Obviously the bot has misfired here, but it is doing its job and doing it well; often a false positive of this sort (and we get plenty of them) shows up when there's been copying within Wikipedia. That's fine, as you know, but only as long as attribution is given for the source text. In this case it looks to me (please correct me if I'm wrong) as if you probably used the 2014 page as a template for this one, and kept a few sentences of the text from it. If so, unless you wrote all of the 2014 page too, we should probably provide attribution for those few sentences. I'm happy to do that, but would need your confirmation that I've guessed right about how the article was made. In similar cases in future, you can use your initial edit summary to provide a bit of history (something like "start new page based on page for previous year ..." would be sufficient). 22:55, 27 March 2015 (UTC)Justlettersandnumbers (talk)
- Thanks for the information. I was the primary editor of the 2014 page; however the initial page was created by another editor using the WikiProject College Football format. Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject College football/Yearly team pages format. I have no problems with making an attribution note if an attribution is required for a standardized format (primarily the opening sentences). With the exception of the standardized opening sentences and some standarized templates, I provided most of the page content for 2014 page (estimated 58,000 bytes of the 67,003 bytes).LUSportsFan (talk) 23:59, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks, that's how it seemed to me. I'm really not at all sure that attribution is necessary in this case, but I've provided it anyway – bureaucracy over common sense! Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:03, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
