Why has Template:WMATA type been slowly removed from station pages?

edit

Hi, I noticed a number of edits removing Template:WMATA type from the station infobox pages. It seems like, on my spot-checking ~15 stations, that it's only on about 5% of stations now. Why? (Couple of diffs from the last bit of time Metro Center, King St). It seems like a vaguely useful template to have in the infoboxes on the pages. I'm not 100% sure this is right spot for this and am happy to open a discussion on Template talk:WMATA type instead. (I had asked on the talk page the user I just now noticed doing this but they seem to be saying they did it because they've noticed other users removing it. [1]) Thanks! Oh there is Template_talk:Infobox_station/Archive_4#Enabling_type_to_be_filled_in_by_adjacent_stations where there seemed to be some general support for just removing type in general so perhaps this is an attempt to move toward that (apologies for missing that thread before posting this, I thought I had searched that talk archive enough.) I have been the one removing many of the type templates. Quite simply, it takes up space in the infobox without adding any useful information - the type of station (i.e, rapid transit) is already in the first line of the article. What services stop at the station has nothing to do with that "type", and is already shown in the services section of the infobox. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 00:39, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
And I knew it was you all along. I want you to come to a consensus to remove it altogether or not. We're going to have a vote here. If the majority is onboard with your idea, then we will remove all the WMATA type templates, but if the majority is against that, then you are expected to revert every Metro station back to where it once was, and restore all of the WMATA type templates. Thank you for the reply! I think I overall like the look/usefulness of having the lines served at the station near/at the top of the box but I agree it's not really a "type" and repeating "rapid transit" isn't particularly useful. Skynxnex (talk) 13:14, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
