Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Peer review/Sinyavin Offensive (1942)/Archive 1

Reached B-Class recently. I would like to improve it further to nominate it for A-class, so a peer review is the logical step D2306 (talk) 12:37, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article is in good shape. My suggestions are:

  • Given the scale of this battle the article is a bit brief
  • The lead is a little short, and should be at least two paragraphs long
    • I have done some expansion on the lead.
  • A map or maps of the area would be helpful
    • I figure I can't use maps out of books, so I am currently drawing some
  • I'm concerned about the heavy use of Manstein's memoirs to reference the article - this isn't an independent source as he was the German commander in this battle, and his memoirs been seriously criticised for being self-serving and unreliable. Likewise, the Soviet commander's memoirs shouldn't be used for pretty much the same reason
    • I used the two of them together to try to to avoid inaccuracies, but you are right. I will gradually replace these references with Glantz.
  • The 'Soviet Plans' section needs a copy edit
  • I'm pretty sure that I've read that the capture of a Tiger tank in this battle had significant strategic consequences as it allowed the Soviets to develop tactics to counter these tanks before their widespread introduction - if this is right it should go in the Aftermath section Nick-D (talk) 06:13, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
