WikiProject Jupiter Proposal

Description

This WikiProject would be a sub project of WikiProject Solar System and would focus on and improve articles related to the Solar System's largest planet. I would like to state opposition to the creation of this project. You cite WikiProject Mars as an example, however with the exception of a brief discussion in June, that project has been pretty much dead for two years. And Mars probably had a larger scope than Jupiter. Given the ongoing reorganisation discussion regarding space-related WikiProjects and the recent abolition of several similar subprojects on the spaceflight side of things, you should have raised the issue on the reorganisation page before pressing ahead with an independent proposal, or at least informed participants in that discussion of it. I would suggest instead that WikiProject Solar System should look at establishing a Jupiter task force, if there is sufficient interest. --G W… 17:06, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please see my answer to similar criticism here. I gave notice of the formation of this project on the parent project page (WikiProject Solar System). I think that for any size of project you need leadership and a direction-otherwise it ends in failure (such as you cited for WikiProject Mars. I wouldn't be surprised if this is why that project has gone stale). I am happy to resign my position as coordinator if anyone else wants to take up that responsibility, but until I hear differently, I and Damërung will lead this Project. We DO NOT own this project. The idea is nice, but WP Mars is probably pretty dead. If anything, I would suggest create a taskforce within the Solar System wikiproject. Nergaal (talk) 04:53, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think that might actually be a good idea. As it is, WikiProject Jupiter would be relying a lot on the Parent Project's infrastructure and assessment department, and integrating it to the Parent Project as a task force would probably be the best compromise solution.--Novus Orator 05:10, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
