Description
editThe Commonwealth Games series of articles are much in need of attention. The first task of this project would be to standardise article, template and category naming and to format all existing results and medal tables using Template:MedalistTable and Template:RankedMedalTable for example. Additionally an audit of the results is needed - as an example many of the swimming results show mm:ss and should show mm:ss.00 in the time column. Yboy83 (talk) 11:31, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion
edit- Have you tried working via Wikipedia:WikiProject Sports or Wikipedia:WikiProject Commonwealth? Those appear to be the logical parent projects. -Optigan13 (talk) 08:49, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- The proposal has been mentioned to both. The scope of WP:SPORTS is too wide; and the WP:COMMONWEALTH deals mainly with political topics and generally project members have little interest in the Games (see here). Yboy83 (talk) 17:58, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I'd be up for helping with this. I've already devoted a large portion of my time cleaning up and creating Commonwealth Games things (including a whole bunch of things linking from Template:Commonwealth Games Sports). I'm not especially sure why, but the Commonwealth Games pages do seem much more messy than equivalent pages. Maybe it's because I'm used to seeing things improved through WikiProject Olympics.
- Perhaps one of the problems here is that the Olympics project serves as an unofficial "multi-sport event" WikiProject. Interest fluctuates depending on how near the next Games is. In that respect, a Commonwealth Games project would most likely be extremely dormant for three out of four year. - Hi! I see what you're saying but the problem doesn't there. Unlike the olympic games articles where it's very detailed and in depth, the Commonwealths articles lack depth and most of the results i.e athletics & swimming don't always give the right results i.e "2:01" instead of "2:00.97". I've also been added info boxes to countries that have competed at the games (example). Thoses are just 2 areas that need addressing.--Billyboy1970 (talk) 20:17, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- As part of WP:CSPORT I amhoping to get a significant amount of interest put into the articles outlining Canadian participation and hosting of these events. Perhaps we could work together on these sections? HalifaxRage (talk) 13:35, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- I disagree that WikiProject Commonwealth is politics-oriented. The one user that replied was, but that was when the WikiProject was dedicated to countries in the Commonwealth that had HM the Queen as head of state. Since then, I have engaged in a wide-ranging overhaul of the coverage of the Commonwealth, including ensuring that is covers the Commonwealth Family of civil society organisations, which includes the Commonwealth Games Federation. Since the Games have been the most prominent activity of the Commonwealth's, they ought to be very inter-related and have cross-interest, hence parentage.
- On a personal note, I was engaged in improving Commonwealth Games coverage in 2006 (when I was a bit of a noob), but have moved onto other things since. If we were to engage in a process of standardising and sharing sources, I would re-engage editing these articles. As stated, this flows readily from my recent editing of Commonwealth-related articles. However, there is a huge backlog of work to be done to improve the Commonwealth Games articles up to Olympic standards, and that could easily take up the entirety of the next four years! - I disagree that WikiProject Sport is only discuss about sport only not event such as the sport event "Olympic Games", "Asian Games" or "Commonwealth Games" that is not under WikiProject Sport. In addition, we also cannot open WikiProject Commonwealth Task Force because Commonwealth is only research about Commonwealth-related politics only. I think this project should be separated with new project called WikiProject Commonwealth Games.Cheong Kok Chun (talk) 04:03, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- While the Commonwealth Games may be regarded as the largest sporting event second only to the Olympic Games, its prestige and its significance on athletes' schedules would probably rank it somewhere below (maybe eighth or so). The only multi-sport WikiProject in existence so far is WikiProject Olympics; we should tread carefully in our proposal for a separate one for the Commonwealth Games. - On hindsight, would creating a WikiProject Multi-sports or WikiProject Multi-sports events be more appropriate? I think we can discuss this idea. There are many multi-sports events in existence right now. Many are in disarray and disorganised; I found these cute but pixellated images being used to represent the medals at Mozambique at the 2009 Lusophony Games. A WikiProject that manages all these multi-sport events would tidy things up. The Commonwealth Games can be a taskforce under it; the Olympics will be stay separate but related.
