Pictured here is a Wigman of the Huli tribe, an aboriginal tribe native to the Southern Highlands of Papua New Guinea. He wears an elaborate ceremonial wig made of his own hair, and decorated with leaves, flowers, and feathers. Once in full costume, he performs a bird dance, mimicking the birds of paradise native to the area. The tribe numbers over 65,000 and has been living in the area for at least 600 years. Its members speak Huli, Tok Pisin, and English. Photo credit: Nomad Tales |
