What: Unforgetting L.A. Meetup #5

When: Saturday, September 6, 2014, 11am - 4pm

Where: Armory Center for the Arts, 145 North Raymond Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91103 (map)

Beginners welcome! We'll provide training for new editors. Orientations are offered every hour on the hour.

What to bring: Your laptop, power adapter, and any reference materials you'd like to work from or share.

Focus: Meetup with online magazine East of Borneo for an edit-a-thon to build a more diverse and accurate history of art in Southern California. This next meetup in their Unforgetting L.A. series will focus on the nonprofit arts organizations that have sustained, and continue to shape the future of, art in Los Angeles. Though we are primarily interested in visual art and related fields—architecture, design, film, music, education, etc.—you are welcome to work on anything you like.

As Always, you do not need to be an experienced Wikipedia editor in order to attend. But if you are, please consider volunteering your expertise to this or any future Unforgetting L.A. meetup by contacting StaceyEOB(talk)

Background

edit

Since July 2013, Unforgetting LA is a series of Wikipedia edit-a-thons to build a better online history of art in Southern California. We meet throughout the year at local galleries, museums, and nonprofit art spaces. Previous hosts include the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and the MAK Center for Art and Architecture. Unforgetting L.A. is organized by East of Borneo, an online magazine of contemporary art and its history as considered from Los Angeles.

Hi! Yes, we'll prepare some files that you can work from, but you can also work on anything at all that interests you—it doesn't need to be on our worklist or even connected to the theme of the event. You can also feel free to add things to that worklist if there are artists, organizations, etc. that you'd like to see represented there. StaceyEOB (talk) 19:53, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, StaceyEOB. I'll look around the worklist and decide. Looking forward to the event! Cheers, Olegkagan (talk) 21:42, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's great, Marilyn! Press clippings and anything independent of Carp would be a huge help. And if you have any photographs that you took and hold the copyright to, we could even upload those to Wikimedia Commons. We'll see you there! StaceyEOB (talk) 15:38, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Regrets:

  • Penny Richards (already committed to doing chalk art at Redondo Pier that day, but I'll work on something from the list in the next couple weeks to contribute anyway)
Sorry to miss you at this one, Penny. Next time! We're about to start a partnership with LA as Subject that kicks off at their Archives Bazaar on October 25. I'll post more info soon. Have fun in Redondo! StaceyEOB (talk) 15:38, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Just started an entry for Patricia Faure from the EOB worklist.Penny Richards (talk) 19:12, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Penny Richards[reply]

This was a slow day due to WiFi trouble at The Armory Center, but we still got some good work done. Thanks for hanging in there!
