The Black Lunch Table challenges photographers everywhere to increase the visibility of visual artists of the African Diaspora. From May 19 through Juneteenth (June 19, 2018) you can submit your original photographs related to the Black Lunch Table task list. Voting is open on June 20th only, when the photos will be judged by the public and one photo will be selected as the winner by popular vote.
This challenge is important because Wikipedia is still missing so many images of notable artists of the African Diaspora. Just a fraction of Wikipedia articles of important Black artists have pictures. Let’s add images to Wikimedia projects, so that the invisible may be seen on Juneteenth.
Here are a few ideas, guidelines and rules:
You may not just upload an image you take of an artist's work. This would violate copyright rules. If you are the artist and you want to upload an image of your work, that does count, just make sure you read the copyright rules before releasing the photo.
Photos of the artist themselves at a public event or posed are good!
These photos will be part of an encyclopedia. They must therefore convey information about the topic.
Voting happens in one day only: June 20th, 2018. Be sure to either message us or post your vote above by the end of that day. The winning photo will be announced here later that week and we will arrange to send the prize to the winner at that point. Prize includes Black Lunch Table tote bag, stickers and more exciting items TBA!!
