School Rumble is a Japanese shōnen manga series written and illustrated by Jin Kobayashi. First serialized in 345 chapters in Weekly Shōnen Magazine between 2002 and 2008, it is a romance comedy centering on relationships between three Japanese high school students. The series often discards realism in favor of comedic effect. Its popularity resulted in television adaptations, video games, novels and guidebooks. It has also been translated into English and other languages. The manga was well received by Japanese-language readers; the North American English translations were less popular, and ranked 145th for overall manga series sales in 2008. Some critics of the English-language translation praised Kobayashi for his art style and overall use of humor, while others disliked some of the jokes and repetitive plot. The anime adaptation sold well in Japan and was praised by Kobayashi and—for the English-language translation—critics. The decision by Media Factory to aggressively pursue its intellectual property rights for School Rumble is believed by proponents of fansubs to have had a negative impact on the franchise's release and sales in the North American market. 1493 – Pope Alexander VI issued the papal bull Dudum siquidem, the last of the Bulls of Donation, marking the beginning of the Spanish colonization of the Americas.
1687 – The Parthenon (pictured) in Athens was partially destroyed during an armed conflict between the Venetians under Francesco Morosini and Ottoman forces.
1959 – Japan was struck by Typhoon Vera, the strongest and deadliest typhoon on record to make landfall on the country with US$600 million in damages and over 4,000 deaths.

Sunken battlecruisers are large capital ships built in the first half of the 20th century that were either destroyed in battle, scuttled, or destroyed in a weapon test. Three British battlecruisers were lost at the Battle of Jutland in 1916. SMS Lützow, a German battlecruiser, was also sunk during the battle. Five German battlecruisers scuttled themselves in 1919 to prevent their seizure by the Royal Navy after the First Armistice at Compiègne in 1918. HMAS Australia (pictured), the sole Australian battlecruiser, was scuttled to comply with the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922 which limited the number and tonnage of capital ships that could be retained by the British Empire. In contrast to World War I, where all four ships were lost to gunfire, only two were sunk solely by guns during World War II and two more by a combination of gunfire and aerial attack. Four ships were sunk solely by aircraft and two by submarines. The three surviving battlecruisers—two of which had been converted into aircraft carriers—were scrapped or used as a target for nuclear weapon tests. (Full list...)

An Re 460 locomotive of the Swiss Federal Railways, with an IC 2000 double decker trainset, photographed between Elgg and Schottikon in Switzerland. The Re 460 series of four-axle electric locomotives replaced the Ae 3/6^I, Ae 4/7 and Re 4/4 series units, and displaced many of the Re 4/4^II series into lesser duties. The Re 460 series was built between 1991 and 1996 as part of the Rail 2000 project and is now used for passenger services.
