- FYI, there is no official information from the AAI (can you show me AAI's official statistics?). All you have is a page from Bangalore Aviation which is hardly source. And also, [1] clearly defines the official name of Chennai airport. Check for yourself.Wroteheard (talk) 05:31, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- With this edit. You have yourself reinstated "Anna International" as the official name :P:P Why so serious? Talk to me 05:39, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Try to answer the above questions before making threats to block me. I now see how Wikipedia works. Its main principle seemingly is "verifiable content", but that hardly happens here. Show me the OFFICIAL source for:
(i) Official name of Chennai airport to be "Annadurai International Airport" (ii) AAI's official statistics page showing Bangalore to be the third busiest airport.
and then I'll stop editing. Wroteheard (talk) 05:43, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Repeat the above statement! (With this edit, you have yourself reinstated "Anna International" as the official name :P:P). Besides the edits regarding third busiest or fourth busiest is made by looking at the traffic figures, which you can see mentioned as a source in the Bangalore airport page. I had removed the name "Anna International" and you with this edit have reinstated the same. So ask yourself for a source now to show the name "Anna International". :P:P:P Why so serious? Talk to me 05:48, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Well, the name revert was an accidental edit. I didn't mean to reinstate "Anna..." But anyway, explain further on the busiest airport thing. There seems to be no official source saying Bangalore surpassed Chennai. Isn't Wikipedia about OFFICIAL sources? Or is it just an eyewash? Now, I shall be removing "Anna.." from Chennai airport page. - Nice knowing you Wroteheard, refer this discussion. I think this should address the concerns. TheMike •Wassup doc? 06:04, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
I have already explained it several times to you. Besides, as told you before, the passenger traffic for BLR is 11.24 million and that of MAA in 10.53 million. It is obvoius that 11.24>10.53. It is based on these statistics that we decide the airport's rank in terms of passenger traffic. A separate source for indicating the rank is not required!! This is not done just for BLR and MAA but for all airports across the country!! Why so serious? Talk to me 06:06, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I already went over the discussion. Correct me, but the time period in which the data was taken differs enormously. You don't have to teach me basic math when you don't seem to understand my question. You don't know that Chennai surpassed the 11.24 million mark of Bangalore, by the time the observation was taken for Bangalore. It is upto AAI to decide the rankings of the airports, with data taken between IDENTICAL time periods. It is not upto two mere Wikipedians to decide on rankings based on irrelevant and unidentical time periods. Wroteheard (talk) 06:13, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
See, it is not our analysis. I can't seem to find statistics by AAI relating to passenger movements in BIA. It is not our fault. That is why we cited the newspaper source, which, by the way, is considered reliable. If you find good sources which tell the passenger traffic for the said period, please let the Wiki community know on the Chennai Airport talk page, and we can gladly include it, and make necessary changes. Till then, I believe we should maintain status quo. TheMike •Wassup doc? 07:18, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- I agree with Wroteheard here. The data is for two different time periods. The Bangalore aviation report which uses Jan-Dec 2010 numbers for Blr to arrive at the conclusion doesn't seem to be a WP:RS. The other reliable source/mainstream media reports i found for the "3rd busiest" are older [2]. We shouldn't making such a comparison between data from two different time periods, in the absence of explicit official ranking.--Sodabottle (talk) 12:29, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- I can't decide upon an opinion here. We don't have sources for passenger traffic in BIA for the said period, but we cannot cite unavailability of info as a reason for including wrong material. So I guess we can say that as of 2009 (or whatever year), Chennai Airport was the third busiest, or something like that. Opinions? TheMike •Wassup doc? 12:42, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yes that would be for the best. We can say "as of 2009" or whatever year official data is available. AAI has started putting out absolute numbers since its latest release - Nov 2010. I have written an email asking for the numbers for older months to be made available similarly. If they upload them, we will be able to determine for sure. So it is best we stick with the "as of 2009" for now.--Sodabottle (talk) 13:04, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
I am moving the conversation to Talk:Chennai International Airport, because there is a fork going on there too. Please continue the conversation there.--Sodabottle (talk) 13:27, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

A belated formal welcome for you. I am sorry your first experience in wikipedia went like this :-). I hope you stick around. Getting caught in a cluebot false positive inspired vicious cycle is very bad indeed. --Sodabottle (talk) 13:49, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

- My apologies. I didn't even welcome you in the midst of the argument we were having. As of now in both the airports, the repective sentences on ranking are being commented out. Let's get a proper concensus and we'll change it accordingly. Why so serious? Talk to me 14:40, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi. As per the discussion by me and Sodabottle (archived here), I have changed the busiest ranking to include the period of time as well. If you have any comments/suggestions, please feel free and comment over there. Thanks, Why so serious? Talk to me 16:08, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
