Managing a conflict of interest
editHello, Wofoz. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam#External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Actualcpscm (talk) 11:10, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you. I have mentioned this in all the talk areas that, as I journalist, I have contributed articles for two independent groups that I work with. I also have mentioned this in my own profile space. Are there other places that I should be posting this? Thank you. Wofoz (talk) 21:32, 12 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there. I see you have written that I did not disclose my COI, but I have. I did totally screw up by putting in the revise improperly. But I did disclose my COI on my user page, the talk page and the edit page. I'd really appreciate if you could correct that. Thank you. Wofoz (talk) 20:21, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Actualcpscm I have checked their user page, and can confirm that they have made a formal declaration. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 21:40, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hello. I work for the Bhekisisa Centre for Health Journalism, which is based in South Africa. I would like to help clear up issues on this page, and the page of founder and editor Mia Malan, in a transparent and helpful manner. It seems to be a "protected" page and, since you have made many of the edits, I'm asking for your help. Bhekisisa is a respected journalism institution in South Africa and globally for our work. We are deeply concerned about the status of these pages. Wikipedia editors who specialise in South African journalism or health who are based in South Africa or with knowledge of the media and/or health environment in the country would be able to confirm and assist with improving this page. Of course, I understand you can't take our word for this because of my clear COI, which I have stated in what I believe are all the required places. We would like to follow all Wikipedia protocol to correct as many issues as possible. But, because the page is protected, we are unsure how to even make these suggestions for review. We are unsure on how to even contribute to a talk area where we can provide any further information or sources to show this. We sincerely appreciate your guidance. Thank you Wofoz (talk) 18:19, 22 January 2024 (UTC)

- Hi there. I am trying to resubmit with my edit, removing the too many citations comment, but I'm not sure this is saving properly! The option I have is to "publish" but I am afraid to hit that as I don't want this to go live. Thanks for your help with this. Wofoz (talk) 20:52, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- OK, any edits to change citations didn't happen. I'm gong to revert the one you saved as an error. Take your tie, there is no rush. Preview before saving, and you will see what WILL be saved when you save it 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 21:15, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

- pssst! Shh, no-one can hear us. You have to actually resubmit it. The big pink box at the head of that page has a resubmit button in the bottom left hand corner. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 21:42, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- Perfect. Wikipedia takes a little getting the hang of.
- Your hardest task will be writing dull-but-worthy and well referenced prose, whereas in your working life you are used to grabbing the reader's attention.
- Remember, always start with the references. We write in our words what has been said by others in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject. This essay is one of many, and there is a process within it that will help you to get results. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 21:49, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
