I have no idea when the system blacklist started, I only noticed when I tried to move the Li (badly named thingamajig) back to Li (利) and a big red notice showed up. I just created 澳門之戰 as a redirect to test this, but that went through okay. So I guess the blacklist is just on moves? (or just 利, or redirects are exempt) _dk (talk) 08:56, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

Hm, oh well in the meantime I'm placing at Baijiaxing numbers, as a temporary fix, otherwise can't distinguish which "surname" is which. Also I left a clear message in Chinese which has been ignored. Hi Deadkid dk, I was surpised when I saw this...I assume this [1] is in reply to Rob Sinden not my comment (an edit conflict). If so, can you reunite the thread above (WP:refactor) to make that more obvious. Further, "anti-intellectual" (especially without qualification) may be interpreted as WP:ad hominem and/or incivility. Could you please stop implementing Rob Sinden's "temporary solution"? See my reply to his "solution" at the link above. A title such as Ji (surname meaning "concubine") is both offensive and historically incorrect. According to both Shuowen Jiezi and Guoyu, Ji was named after a river, and the character only acquired the meaning of "concubine" many centuries later. And how did you come up with Qin (surname meaning "ash tree")? Qin is named after the State and Dynasty of Qin, and the "ash tree" thing is so obscure it's almost never used and not listed in most dictionaries. It really needs to be moved back to Qin (surname) as it's no doubt the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for that title. -Zanhe (talk) 21:48, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

You really can't please everyone. So yes, "ash tree" is weird, but Qin (surname named after the state of Qin) and Ji (surname named after the Ji River) are not very helpful since they're little better than tautologies. I'm in support of useful disambiguations by what the Chinese character commonly means nowadays (to be as accessible to readers as possible), not necessary where the surname originates. _dk (talk) 03:19, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

"Canonity" of Chinese reading of Chinese name

Hi! I caught this edit.

The practice on here is to put in the pinyin reading of a Chinese character appearing in a Japanese work. Because the character is Chinese the pinyin is automatically canon. It's easy to determine, as usually Chinese characters only each have one reading. Use http://mdbg.net and plug in the characters and you will have it.

I am still against inserting whatever information ZUN did not provide. Even "Hong Meiling" itself without the tone marks is stretching it, but I can let that slide because it's the commonly used name in the western fandom. _dk (talk) 20:01, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

There needs to be consistency across all anime and manga articles. Either we provide the pinyin or we don't. If anything because of the ban on original research I wouldn't provide the version without the tone marks because no official version or "reliable source" uses it, and no RS refers to that version.
