I'm feeling left out here -- SarekOfVulcan, Marshal of Star in the East #60, AF&AM, Old Town, Maine 06:00, 8 March 2012 (UTC) |
Very neat! I would say we also need to add the Inside Sentinel, Electrician, and those offices which exist in non-US jurisdictions (Almoner, MC, and so forth). Maybe we should do some for the rest of the major appendant bodies as well? Also, as these technically can be spuriously used, I would suggest not creating GL-related boxen. What? No box for "Assistant Secretary"? Hmmmph! (sigh... once again its "all the work with none of the recognition"... oh well, back to the salt mines). Seriously, these are quite nice. Do we have a general "brother" userbox for non-officers? Blueboar (talk) 15:40, 8 March 2012 (UTC) |
Doc?
editThe <doc> is under construction so please don't gripe about that. :) Eric Cable | Talk 15:50, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
Offices to Be Added
editFirst of all I am willing and able to add any of the "other" officer out there. Organist, Marshall, you name it.
Please, in this area of the talk, describe the office, give a link to anywhere it's described in article, and link to a good image (can be off Wikipedia). and I will make a vector graphic of it to match these and then add it to the template. Eric Cable | Talk 15:57, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- First of all, I think this is an excellent idea. The only problem I can see is the transience of all masonic offices. Masonic editors need to actually wake up once a year and change their UBX. The ones that fall off the perch, can't be bothered, of whatever you're having yourself, could end up stuck forever at, say, Senior Warden, which I wouldn't wish on anybody. Fiddlersmouth (talk) 20:33, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- I hear what you're saying. However, if an editor can't be bothered to "wake up" and change two letters of code on a UBX when their office changes well then... that's thier problem. Eric Cable | Talk 16:11, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- At this point, if someone says "why no (insert name of office here?" my response is "give me a link to a good graphic of the icon/jewel and I will add it." Eric Cable | Talk 16:11, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- Stuck forever at Senior Warden? What's up with that? Does your lodge require a MAster to die before they let the SW move up? Eric Cable | Talk 19:57, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
Other Bodies?
editYes. I plan on making a similar user box template for Eastern Star. Please list your suggestions here and I will get to work on them. Eric Cable | Talk 15:57, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- Chapter, Council, and Commandery/Priory would probably be good to add to the list as well. I think generic AASR NMJ and SJ boxes would work, as would a Shrine box. Might as well do DeMolay and Rainbow, too. Considering they're doing a whole Second Life thing, it might be useful. MSJapan (talk) 22:23, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- You're killing me with the abreviations brother. AASR, NMJ, SJ? Call me stupid if you like but the acronyms are not computing in my head. That being said, If you could give me some links to find graphics, as well as a list of the officers in each group, I can deal with about anything. We may run into some troulbe though when it comes to things like the Eastern Star logo as well as the Shrine Schiitar which are both trademarked. Eric Cable | Talk 16:06, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

A few thoughts
editFirst, please remember that userboxen can be used by anyone... which means we will get imposters. Don't assume that someone sporting one of these boxes on their user page actually is what they claim to be (it could easily be a high school student who thinks it would be "cool" to pretend).
That said, it isn't a big deal if someone wants to pretend to be a lodge officer. Wikipedia ignores credentialism. It's not like saying that you are a PM of your lodge actually means anything on Wikipedia.
Finally, for those of you who are Masons, and decide to put one of these boxen on your user page... please remember that by doing so you are publicly representing the fraternity. Non-Masons will form an opinion of the fraternity based on your actions. "Let others to know that a gentleman stands before them". Blueboar (talk) 18:10, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
- I agree with all you've said here. If someone wants to impersonate we can't do much about it just like we can't do anything from stopping someone from putting a Square and Compasses sticker on thier car. That being said, I think if you talk to a user here on Wiki you will quickly get a bad "vibe" is they are a non-Mason. As for representing the Fraternity, I also agree. Not being a troll was part of why I decided to change my user name to my real name. I know some masons who do NOT put masonic emblems on their cars because they don't want to poorly represent the Fraternity when/if they cut someone off in traffic, etc. That being said, I DO put emblems on my car to help remind me to not be an ass to people in general, not just the Brotherhood in Masonry. Eric Cable | Talk 20:50, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
- One of the big problems that we have here in Florida with masonic impostors is our license plates, currently there is no requirement either by the Grand Lodge of Florida, the local tax office where license plates are issued or the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles which produce the plates to prove your legitimate affiliation with the Grand Lodge of Florida whereas I understand in jurisdictions like California, New Jersey, New York and Texas you are required to submit a copy of your current dues card with your application to the Grand Lodge secretary or administrator before you are cleared to receive the plates so less chance of impostors. I've encountered several so called brothers who either were not a mason, never completed or only completed one or two of the three degrees but was still calling themselves a mason, they are members of a clandestine lodge i.e. Prince Hall or a bogus grand lodge/affiliated lodge so it's a double whammy posers on Wikipedia and posers on the road.
