Once I get the support and info Im looking for Ill prob start by replacing the redirect. Yeah Iv done tht. Your recent edits and suggestion on Svayam bhagavan

I just wanted to say, that I appreciate your attempt in bringing in balance to Svayam bhagavan page. I have a sort of broken communication with GRd who seems to be taking pleasure in making fun of my edits. I appreciate you impartial comments and input to the article itself - it is very much appreciated, especially since you are in the middle of the exams. Wikidās ॐ 09:34, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Shruti, I have added the other POVs to achieve WP:YESPOV - that is something that I need to be pointed out to what extend more I need to add other POV to get the balance right especially since Svayam bhagavan is a concept specific to Krishna-centered traditions. If some one can just point to me 30% in this section and 40% in this section I can do that I think. Thanks a lot. Wikidās ॐ 09:42, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

It was said here that you would do the next newsletter? Will you be doing it for May? Because if you can't, then I'll be glad to do it. Noble Story (talk) 09:22, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

I apologize for the late reply - I've been busy with school exams. You've done a great job with the newsletter. I'd love to help with the next edition. --Shruti14 t c s 03:33, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
About the next newsletter: It would be great if you could work on the June edition. As you can see here, I've done a major redesign of the newsletter. I was thinking that I could just handle the part on the left side (Project News, COTM, Member News) and you could take the right side (NBA Article, This Month in NBA History..). I think that would leave you with a lot of freedom to do whatever you want. What do you think? Noble Story (talk) 03:47, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry it's been SO long since I've replied to your comment about the NBA newsletter - I've been busy and away for a while and somehow I missed your message (on May 8th!) I would love to help with the right side of the newsletter as you suggested, and the left as well if you'd like, as I see that neither is done yet for the next issue. --Shruti14 t c s 23:57, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

The goal is to improve this article by the end of May so that it can be nominated for Featured Article status. In particular, free-use images should be found for the article, all Manual of Style guidelines should be followed, and a neutral point of view should be maintained throughout the article. If there is anything you can do to improve the article, then please help out.

Sanskrit translation

Hello there. I found your userpage by browsing the Wikipedians with Sanskrit language userboxes.

I'm currently working on an article about Honore de Balzac's novel La Peau de chagrin. In it, he prints this Sanskrit writing and provides the following translation:

Possessing me thou shalt possess all things.
But thy life is mine, for God has so willed it.
Wish, and thy wishes shall be fulfilled;
but measure thy desires, according
to the life that is in thee.
This is thy life,
with each wish I must shrink
even as thy own days.
Wilt thou have me? Take me.
God will hearken unto thee.
So be it!

I know nothing of Sanskrit (or if it even is Sanskrit), and I'd like to know if the translation is accurate. Any information you can offer is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance. – Scartol • Tok 20:45, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

I took a look at the image link you showed me. It's interesting, but there is one major problem with it being referred to as a Sanskrit text - it's not written in a Sanskrit script! :-) Unfortunately, I cannot read the text for this reason, but I will say that the writing resembles a more Arabic script and not a Devanagari or similar Sanskrit script. As for the translation, I wouldn't doubt that there is a Sanskrit text whose meaning is close to the translation you gave me - it's just that it probably isn't this one. I'm sorry that I couldn't verify the translation for you, but I recommend that you find someone who is a member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Languages, Wikipedia:WikiProject Writing systems, and/or Wikipedia:WikiProject Arab world to see if the translation is close to the meaning of an Arabic or related language text. Cheers! --Shruti14 t c s 23:10, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply – as I was looking around at the Sanskrit page, I began to seriously suspect that it wasn't. I will keep looking for someone who can translate it. Many thanks! – Scartol • Tok 00:22, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Sri Sampradayam and other articles/Wikidas

Dear Shruti, thank you for inviting me to help with the Sri Sampradayam article. I looked at the information that wikidas put, and , again it is utter non-sense. The Sri Sampradayam goes back BEFORE the first century B.C., He put 10th century a.d. I also looked at his information that he put on the svayam bhavam article, at alot of it is non-sense and supporting his I.S.K.C.O.N cult veiw. Every thing he writes is with this iskcon cult flavor. His information is absolutely off and just fantasy in certain places, and other editors have mentioned this. But, the one thing that upsets me, is that everyone LETS him put these erronious edits and information. I believe he has really marred the truth and information on many articles. Alot of his information is not trust-worthy. And, I think people should be warned about it. Every editor contributing to any Hindu articles has let him do this. He has even recieved praise for his edits! Look at his discussion section. But, what really gets me, is that he writes EVERY THING with his Iskcon cult slant. I have asked every one for help with him...and nothing. If I had the time, I would make this into a Legal matter. Please, this is not directed to you, please dont take it personally. This is a very serious matter; with his non-sense cult information and no one in the wiki-community really cares. Wikidas and other iskcon-ites, before and during my stint wikipedia, have tinted most of the hindu articles with their particular cult flavor. Sincerely,GovindaGovinda Ramanuja dasa USA (talk) 08:09, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Your question

I would also like to help assessing articles. It may be better to add a Hinduism banner for most articles, although a separate banner would be fine as well. --Shruti14 t c s 23:02, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
I think that a great idea. I have created a banner that I have used on a Radha Ramana and Radha Krishna articles. Let me know what you think. its krishna=yes part of the main Hinduism one. Wikidās- 11:27, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
It's nice - I like it. Thanks for making it. --Shruti14 t c s 22:23, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Zeuspitar

Shruti,

I would appreciate your comments or a neutral opinion on the above.

I have left a following message on Govinda Ramanuja dasa/Zeuspitar talk page. Please feel free to leave a comment here: Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Zeuspitar

Zeuspitar, based on the above comments, you think that repeatedly raising allegations and calling other people by at least demeaning and potentially abusive language, such as using the word "non-sense" , is acceptable. Please read the policy on no personal attacks, of which I believe all of your comments in the last 24 hours are clearly and explicitly a violation. I note that you are yet to provide a single substantiation of your contention about how inclusion of verifiable information could be a cause for a your comments that are clearly breaching the code of WP:Civility. Regarding your allegations regarding my own, admittedly partial conduct, being improper, I would have no objections whatsoever to being subject to mediation or arbitration. In fact, you must know, I have already requested it once. Verification of this can be found on the User talk:John Carter page, who is an administrator and an editor on the WP:VAISHNAVA project. You should stop canvassing and bulling other users by your sectarian comments and canvassing, of which your userpage is an example (diff). Please revert with a confirmation that you will stop all such behavior from this point on. Wikidās- 13:52, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Since you were trying to negotiate our dispute, I would appreciate if you can look at this section here, under Users_certifying_the_basis_for_this_dispute, since you were negotiating between us, to make sure it can be discussed further. Wherever you have time, if you have any. Wikidās- 21:00, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Pluto/Yama

I've had a go at sourcing it, but I'm not an expert on such matters. These things tend to be added by anonymous Indian nationalists who get angry and cry Western imperialism if they are removed, so perhaps I've been too lenient to that paragraph out of sheer exasperation. I don't really know how the name is used across India's vast language spectrum, but some form of "Yama" does appear to be used occasionally. I would appreciate the input of someone with first hand knowledge. Thank you. Serendipodous 09:57, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Krishnaism articles and assessment helping out

Shruti, I have done some, and maybe you can help out on assessment and adding krishna=yes parameter to the articles here[1]. I have went up to and including letter K. on unassessed Vaishnavism articles. Of course this assessment also serves Vaishnavism and Hinduism projects so there are a few benefits. Generally its is:

  • Epics - Generally classed as top importance.
  • Temples - "Mid" if in India , "High" if outside India, "Top" if a well-known temple outside India
  • Biographies - "Top" if outside India
  • Festivals - Probably High or sometimes even Top
  • Deities Top should be kept for about only the ten or twenty most famous. Others that appear in famous texts a number of times are High. The rest including local gods and goddesses are Mid or more likely Low.
  • Gurus/Swamis/Charyas/Rishis The founders of major Hindu sects and philosophies are Top while their followers and students are either Mid or Low depending on their influence.
  • Mantras/Bhanjans The most important mantra (and bhajan/aarti) in a major sect is Top. Other generally famous mantras are High or Mid. The rest, if they even have an article are Low.

Most others are a mid and low. Wikidās- 08:15, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Just a heads up

I thought you might like to know that the Awards Center page has been deleted, along with its newsletter.  :(

So, where do we go from here?

To new and even more interesting projects, of course!

As announced in the newsletter, I've been preparing to co-coordinate a large collaboration/competition called Around the World. It was going to be run at the Awards Center, but since that no longer exists, the collaboration will be hosted somewhere else.

Around the World will begin July 15th as planned - it's location will be announced soon.

It'll be a blast. In the competition, participants will be helping to develop over 200 pages (drafts, which will be moved to article space once they are ready), using advanced tools to edit every single one of them!

This is going to be interesting.

And the event shall have awards which are being created specifically for it as we speak!

If you would like me to keep you informed of this and other interesting collaborations I'll be working on and/or organizing in the future, please drop me a note on my talk page, and I'll be happy to keep you in the know.

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

What is Around the World?

It's a collaboration!

A collaboration using advanced wiki-tools!

If everything goes according to plan, it will begin on July 15th.

The event is being co-sponsored by Wikiproject Lists of basic topics and WikiProject Geography, and participants will be "traveling" all around "the World" visiting each country online (here on Wikipedia and perhaps beyond) as they apply advanced wiki-tools to improve pieces of the profiles of each and every country on Earth!. Each pass through these pages is a "trip around the World..."

The set of pages we are working on is currently located at Wikipedia:WikiProject Lists of basic topics.

Each page presents essential information on each country in a topic outline format, for ease of overviewing and navigating. Most of the topics presented are linkified, which turns these pages into a hypertextual map to material about each country on Wikipedia. When completed, they shall all become part of Wikipedia's contents system.

The pages share a standard format, with the information on each country presented in the same general order. So rather than getting stuck on a single country trying to complete it, each participant works on all 200+ political entities, completing a single data item or detail across all of the pages!

For this they use advanced tools like WP:AWB, Linky, etc. It goes fast, and since others are doing this at the same time, it makes "the World" feel like a beehive, and the participants are its bees.  :) The energy is contagious.

And since you are moving from country to country, the tasks make it feel like you are traveling around the world, and you get to learn a little about every country as you do so. This approach also allows for greater efficiency, because by the time you've done 30 or so of a particular item, you've figured out how to finish it faster and more effectively (such as where to find the data or how to make adjustments), and this specialization speeds up development - but more importantly it reduces errors.

The tasks are varied, which adds even more variety to the project. Some tasks are look-ups-and-fill-ins, some are copy and paste, some are image hunts, some are maintenance adjustments, some are link fixing, some are blue-linking (creating an underlying redirect so a link turns blue), some are fact checking, etc.

For an example of what a nearly complete page looks like, see these:

List of basic Albania topicsList of basic Argentina topicsList of basic Australia topicsList of basic Canada topicsList of basic Ecuador topicsList of basic Egypt topicsList of basic France topicsList of basic Germany topicsList of basic Iceland topicsList of basic India topicsList of basic Indonesia topicsList of basic Iraq topicsList of basic Republic of Ireland topicsList of basic Italy topicsList of basic Isle of Man topicsList of basic Israel topicsList of basic Japan topicsList of basic Macau topicsList of basic Mexico topicsList of basic Russia topicsList of basic Taiwan topicsList of basic United Kingdom topicsList of basic United States topics

There are only about 200 more pages to go!

During the collaboration, co-coordinators will be standing by, to lend a helping hand to participants, provide instruction and tips on how to use the tools, and help them find what they are looking for. Co-coordinators will also be using advanced tools to inspect the work of participants, and touch it up as needed, or if a task was done wrong throughout, point this out to the participant so he or she can make the necessary corrections.

Co-coordinators are working on the set of pages right now, to familiarize themselves with "the World" so they can help more effectively by the time the main event starts. But there's still lots of preparation left to be done, and we are looking for editors experienced in advanced wikitools who would like to become co-coordinators.

Can you help?

I see you were listed as a participant in the League of Copy-Editors so it seems likely. The thing is the Military history wikiproject urgently needs prose pros to help with our best articles. Milhist covers a broad range of interesting and varied subjects from film to biography, battles to weaponry, and Roman emperors to twentieth-century dictators. In Milhist, A-Class has become the last port of call before FAC and we are looking for people to help identify prose and MoS issues at A-Class A-Class Reviews and help fix them prior to featured article candidacy. We also have a copy-editing section in our Logistics Dept and that can always use experienced copy-editors. For most of our articles, you don't need to be a specialist in the subject matter, just good with words.

If you think you can help, please do! Thanks for your time, --ROGER DAVIES talk 07:52, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

The image you added to 'Mood Ring'.

In the Mood Ring article, you added: Image:MoodChart.jpg - and in the copyright statement relating to that image, you claim to be the copyright holder.

If that's true - then this image is highly problematic:

  1. If you made it yourself, it constitutes 'Original Research' (WP:OR) - which Wikipedia does not permit.
  2. If you own the copyright as a manufacturer or a worker for a manufacturer of Mood rings then you are editing under a Conflict of Interest - which is also not allowed and you should recuse yourself from further editing of the Mood Ring article.

You should let us know the circumstances under which you claim ownership of the copyright of this image - since it's highly dubious.

At any rate - we have already determined that adding any specific color chart to the article is inappropriate since there are many such charts - and rarely do they agree with each other. I've reverted your addition because it really makes no difference whether it's text or text in a picture - the result is the same.

SteveBaker (talk) 04:09, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

I apologize for the mistake - I didn't realize this problem. The picture should be removed from the article. Thanks. --Shruti14 t c s 20:30, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
