Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

RE: Nicole Scherzinger discography

edit

I've reverted your changes for a second time. Allow me to explain... Scherzinger released both "Supervillain" and "Puakenikini" as singles back in 2007. Neither was released to radio because they did not chart of downloads and so the label felt there was not point releasing them considering that she was going to re-record the album anyway. It is difficult to source something which happened 4 years ago but i have restored sources which existed in the article before. Releasing the songs to iTunes makes them singles because they were independently released of any other album/project. They are not promotional singles because they were not released in promotion of anything... all singles are released in promotion of albums. Songs which were released for downloads cannot simply be called promotional singles on the basis they did not receive a music video or live performances etc. that is WP:OR. To call something a promotional single you need a source to say so. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 23:45, 13 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I didn't state 'Stairway to Heaven' as a promo single. I stopped editing that article a long time ago. However the point is about the Nicole songs is at the time of release they were released as singles as shown in various sources. They are not promotional singles for those reasons. end of. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 10:44, 14 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
As for the promotional recording article I wouldn't bother using it for reference. It has few or no references and certainly is not a policy page. Remember WP:Other stuff..., just because something exists elsewhere it doesn't mean its correct. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 10:49, 14 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
As for Black Eyed Peas and Katy Perry... those examples are different because they each released three countdown singles which were removed from iTunes once the albums were released. Nicole's singles are available from multiple retailers. There are reliable sources calling them singles. As far as I'm concerned that makes them singles. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 16:08, 14 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

She Ain't You

It is passed November 7 and there is no release for it on iTunes or Amazon as a single. It seems that things didn't go according to plan. Oz talk 06:19, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

That source is outdated now since the song was not released in the UK. Oz talk 06:56, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
The day UK begins counting airplay when they compile their weekly charts, then come to me with this. Till now, a radio release anywhere except the US =/= Single. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 07:07, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
There is a UK airplay chart. I don't understand why you're removing sources which proved the song was getting airplay/was at least an airplay single in the UK. Airplay and video play caused the song to chart, it's a form of promotion. It didn't chart by chance. TopopMAC1 (talk) 18:24, 15 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well, it does not matter if radios in the UK are playing it. UK is not the US. UK does not count airplay when it compiles the UK Singles Chart. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 21:44, 15 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Airplay generates sales, promotion generates sales... which is how the UK singles chart is compiled ie through generated sales. If it wasn't for the airplay or promotion of a song in some way, it wouldn't chart. "She Ain't You" charted on the UK singles chart because the song is getting promotion through airplay and video promotion, through Lucid PR. It was playlisted on the biggest Radio station in the UK. Why should that be dismissed? To say that airplay and videoplay is redunant in any country outside the U.S. is unfounded. I have not seen any policy on Wikipedia which states airplay only matters in the U.S. It matters EVERYWHERE. If it helps explain the background/chart performance of the song in a certain country and is sourced (which it WAS), it should not be dismissed. TopopMAC1 (talk) 22:37, 15 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Listen... the day The Official Charts Company and whatever Video Charts Company exist in the UK, publish that they have started to count airplay when compiling their charts, i will agree with you but not now. You can reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart being at number one on he Radio Songs Chart and below number 100 on the Digital Songs Chart and this is IMPOSSIBLE in the UK. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 22:42, 15 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Grown Woman

edit

Can I ask why you changed Grown Woman to a "promotional single". It was a proper single, it just flopped and then they left it off the album. 80.238.1.135 (talk) 12:34, 15 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • Many songs are released as singles (like Nicole Scherzinger's "Whatever U Like" and Mary J. Blige's "Someone to Love Me (Naked)") but are classed as promotional singles. If you look at those two articles, both of them are classed as promo singles, despite Mary's "Someone to Love Me" charting on the R&B charts, receiving a video, a performance at the Billboard Awards and appearing on the deluxe/international versions of the album. "Grown Woman" did not receive a video or promotion and does not feature on the album, therefore I changed it as it was only a buzz/promotional single in the end. TopopMAC1 (talk) 18:22, 15 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
    • I understand what you mean but if a track started out as a proper single, it doesn't then become a "buzz/promotional single" after its run on radio/TV. It's not wise to look to other articles on Wikipedia for guidance about this because there seems to be a phenomenon amongst music fans on the internet (usually of major label pop/R&B female solo artists or female-fronted groups), and also some music publicists, of trying to paint unsuccessful singles as "buzz/promotional singles" to save face for the artist—so then these internet-savvy fans parachute into Wikipedia to make the necessary alterations. Using the example of "Grown Woman", there's a wealth of evidence that the track did receive promotion commensurate to a "full" single release, notably its listings on radio industry websites like AllAccess, Radio & Records etc. [1] [2] [3] [4] 80.238.1.135 (talk) 12:42, 17 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Try with Me

edit

"and was given its first play on Capital FM today (18th October)." Tell me how that sentence there tells you that the song was sent to "mainstream radio" in the UK? Oh right, it doesn't. Any song can be played on the radio. "Poison" wasn't sent to radio, but it got a CD single in Germany: single. "Hold Your Breath" was sent to mainstream UK radio, as was "Right There": singles. "Try with Me" never received a CD single or was sent to radio. Not a single. Status {talkcontribs 06:29, 28 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

There aren't official 'radio add' date listings in the UK like there is in the US. "Try with Me" is on playlists such as (Spark FM - Click HERE to view) (Sunderland's radio station). It was also playlisted by The Severn who also have "Try with Me" on their playlist. It's also on the playlists for specialist shows such as Scottish radio station 97.3 Forth One - (Click HERE to view) and Radio City 96.7 - Liverpool's radio station (Click HERE to view).

"Poison" was sent to UK radio on 3 November 2010. The official UK music industry magazine Music Week wrote an article on it, where the additions that week to the BBC Radio 1 playlist were noted. Click HERE for that article. If you search for Nicole Scherzinger on radio station Kiss Playlist archive web site (CLICK HERE), you'll see that it the song WAS playlisted by them. You can't get links back to previous Radio 1 playlists (unless people have archived them at the time) as their web site does not keep playlist archives.

If a song has been announced as a single (which it was) and a radio premiere date has been announced and it's been played, then it has been sent to radio! "Try with Me" was also given a digital release, separate from the album, received a music video AND was perfomed and promoted. It also launched the album re-release! The CD single argument is redundant in the UK as "Poison", "Don't Hold Your Breath" and "Right There" did not receive physical releases (very few singles do now) and "Try with Me" was only released in the UK and Ireland. What about singles that aren't playlisted by major radio stations? That doesn't mean they're not singles, it means radio bosses have decided not to play them! There is nothing in WP:SONGS or WP:NSONGS about your justification re promotional/official singles either. Can you direct me to where you've found this policy? Thank you! TopopMAC1 (talk) 07:17, 28 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

I guess I stand corrected. The UK works WAY different than the US, and quite frankly, it is hard to understand. Please excuse me for my ignorance and please accept an apology. Status {talkcontribs 07:49, 28 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
It's really confusing now! What I've seen more recently is that if songs are already available to download individually from an album, they're not released as separate singles any more... even if they're on the major radio station playlists. I really do think there needs to be a new, detailed policy regarding this on Wiki as these things are changing all the time! I wish there was a web site that stated when songs were released to radio in the UK because it would help things A LOT (even though airplay doesn't make up the charts, it still drives sales of the downloads!) At the moment, we just have to archive the Capital FM/Radio 1 playlists I guess... TopopMAC1 (talk) 08:00, 28 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yes, there definitely is. And the same thing happened with "Wet". It was said to be released sometime in August, but it was more of a promoted that day as an official single. It's becoming a complete mess. Why can't everyone just keep releasing CD singles? At least some remix EPs (most do, but some don't). Radio singles are annoying and hard to source. Especially when they are older. Status {talkcontribs 08:04, 28 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Couldn't agree more! That is what happened with "Wet"... and unlike the other singles from Killer Love, they didn't release a remix bundle! She didn't promote it like she did the previous singles either! I still buy CD singles when I can. I mean, this is just my opinion, but I'd say for the future, a single for me is a song that is receiving airplay, video play and is taken from an album or has all those things plus a separate single release. I'd say promotional singles are just released as stand-alone singles without promotion, a video or airplay... and radio singles are just played on radio without a video. Even typing this, I'm not sure... the digital age is very confusing in categorising these things! Completely agree about older radio singles too, it's so hard to find the sources if they don't keep archives. I'm really glad Kiss FM is starting to put together a database... at least that's one new source. Good to chat to you about it! TopopMAC1 (talk) 08:14, 28 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Regarding this edit you made to Mae Muller, there is no need to add chart and certification columns where nothing charted or was certified, and you entirely repeated the citations from the singles section anyway. Refnames should be used instead of copying and repeating the same citation multiple times. Thank you. Ss112 03:20, 26 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
