Hello, you cannot just unilaterally decide to remove a map from a dozen articles. Please go to [[Talk:WikiProject Pakistan and let people know about your concerns about that map. If they agree with you, they will delete the map in its entirety rather than have to go page-to-page removing it. MatthewVanitas (talk) 16:29, 14 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Languages of Khyber-Puhktunkhwa (Map)

edit

Map being used in various articles pertaining to languages of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa is incorrect and biased. It is showing tank as Seraiki speaking which is incorrect as majority of people in Tank speak Pashto. It is showing Karak as Hindko speaking while we know that almost 99% of the population of Karak is Pashto speaking Khattak. It is showing battagram as hindko speaking while we all know that most of the people in Battagram speak Pashto. Similarly, it is showing Shangla as hindko speaking, which is incorrect as most of the people their also speak Pashto. Finally, it is showing Toorghar district as Hindko speaking while we know most of the people their also speak Pashto. I think all this show biasness or incompetence on the part of the person who included that Map. Furthermore, it should also be noted that the map fails to show that most of the people on western side of Mansehra and Haripur speak Pashto, while most on western side of D.I.Khan also speak Pashto. I feel that the Map has grossly exaggerated the number of speakers of other languages.Tigerkhan007 (talk) 17:24, 7 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Tigerkhan, did you discuss these map changes anywhere? Again, you can't simply decide that a given map is wrong and substitute in your own version. If the old map is as wrong as you describe, it should be easy to to to go to Wikipedia talk:Notice board for Pakistan-related topics and get some agreement from people there that the old map is wrong, and your map is correct.
If, however, you do not have a clear WP:Consensus for a mass-change of maps, then we will have to change all the articles back to the old map. So please do establish a consensus before changing the maps. If you can go and start that discussion this week, I'm fine waiting to see what the decision is, but if you don't have at least some discussion of the topic by this weekend, I think we should change the maps back until you can show that the issue has been openly discussed and concluded. MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:44, 12 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
You need to stop making the changes until you have consensus. I see you've copy-pasted the same complaints onto lots of individual Talk pages, and people other than me have also told you you must discuss changing the map before doing so. Rather than try to argue it on dozens of individual pages, please instead go to Wikipedia talk:Notice board for Pakistan-related topics to raise the topic. If you continue forward changing maps, I'll just start changing them back until you start a proper discussion at a widely-read page. MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:50, 12 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

AoA Please provide a link to the said page you are referring to. Dr Pukhtunyar Afghan (talk) 08:23, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

AOA,Dear Dr Puktunyar, The map is being used at multiple places, some of the links are (http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Battagram_District), (http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Buner_District), (http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Chitral), (http://en.wikipmost of the edia.org/wiki/Kohat_District), the link for this inaccurate map is (File:Map of languages of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.jpg). I propose that the map should be deleted from commons. As you are aware Pashto is a majority language in Shangla, Karak, Toorghar, Buner, Battagram, Tank and even in western side of DI Khan (Kulachi onwards), Mansehra (Agror Valley & Ogai), and Haripur (Ghazi, Guddon Valley) but the said map is either showing these areas as hindko or saraiki speaking. The quality of the map is also very bad. furthermore, I propose that another map (File:Map on languages spoken in Baluchistan.png) should also be deleted (created by the same person) which is showing Musakhel as Saraiki Speaking, when we know that most of the people their speak pashto and in the same map Hazaragi is shown as a majority language in southern Killah Abdullah, when we know that most of the people in Killa Abdullah district speak pashto, while hazargi is spoken just by few neighborhoods in Quetta city, where around 75% of the population speak Pashto.Tigerkhan007 (talk) 10:40, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

I propose following map to be used in Languages of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa related languages File:Kyber-Pukhtunkhwa Language Map.gif|thumb|Kyber-Pukhtunkhwa Language Map, While in case of baluchistans major language map i propose this map http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3AMain_Languages_of_Baluchistan.gif Tigerkhan007 (talk) 10:40, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Tigerkhan007 (talk) 10:47, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

With due respect, unless your map has a reliable source it will be regarded as based on your own research and should not be included anywhere on Wikipedia. This encyclopaedia is NOT a publisher of own research. Regards, kashmiri TALK 11:07, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kashmiri, the map that was there is something that a four year old would draw with a crayon, a person who knows a little bit about pakistan and languages spoken there would know that it is inaccurate, biased and of very bad quality. What would you do if someone painted the entire kashmir valley as following hindu religion when we know that most of the population over there are muslims. We do not have any source for it on hand but we know as a matter of general knowledge that muslims make up majority of the population in Kashmir valley. Similarly, we know that most people in Karak, Buner, Shangla, Battagram, Kohat, Tooghar, Tank, Musakhel, and Killa Abdullah speaks pashto while the said maps (by the same author who has not qouted any source) show them as speaking other languages, mostly hindko and saraiki. We should delete the said maps form wikipedia commons aswell. Tigerkhan007 (talk) 11:31, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Agree, the old maps are in accurate. Tigerkhan007, can you provide/make a correct one? you will also have to provide the sources for the new map (source/ reference).Dr Pukhtunyar Afghan (talk) 14:58, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Tiger, I note you have posted the same discussion on several people's Talk pages. What might be way easier, in terms of centralising the discussion so everyone can see the full debate, is to start one single centralised discussion at WikiProject Pakistan, and then invite other people to come to it. That way the discussion can be centred in one place, and interested parties notified to also come to that one place to discuss. MatthewVanitas (talk) 18:34, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Your edits to Mansehra District

edit

Hi, would you mind to double-check the spelling before you save your edits? Four spelling errors in a 13-word contribution [1] is slightly below of Wikipedia standard. Thanks. kashmiri TALK 20:55, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Also, the sentence "Hindko is mainly spoken in the district, while Pashto is spoken in the west and north-west of the district" is illogical, I have reverted it for now.
Please, PLEASE, your editing pattern to-date only adds lots of work to other editors. Personally, I spent at least an hour of my time today repairing your well-intentioned but badly carried out edits. I STRONGLY suggest you acquaint yourself with the secrets of making valuable contributions to this project at WP:PLAINANDSIMPLE. Regards, kashmiri TALK 21:03, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
