Welcome to the Museums project
editLoved when I phttp://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:WikiProject_Museums&curid=16372688&diff=286903562&oldid=276023405 saw] you were a native speaker as the coverage of Greek museums is pretty sparse. Dr. Bloefeld helped with lots of stubs, but we've had language issues. Realy appreciate your help StarM 01:59, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Greek museums
editHi Thaliapap, I'm no formal member of WP Museums though I am doing lots in the museum categories. Someone I used to know from WP Films has created an astonishing amount of sub-basic stubs in Wikipedia. The wonder is that with his energetic way he has also motivated an astonishing amount of editors to develop these stubs therefore doing a great good. One area that appears to have stayed behind (and I just run into it lately) is, well, Category:Museums in Greece. Also there was a AfD notice in WP Museums for Gounaropoulos Museum, which is not the least notable of the lot. Can you please help me in sorting out which of all these museums we could turn into proper subs at least and which should be nominated for AfD? Hoverfish Talk 18:18, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Hi!! You are right. Its a good idea to organize the Greek museums articles.I was thinking about that a long time ago but I never tried to find someone to collaborate. I am glad you asked me. I will be happy to help you and I will do my best. The only problem is that I will need some guide cause I've never done sth like that before, so I think we should help each other. I'ts a good opportunity also for me to organize the things I have to do (about Greek museums), there is a lot to do.. so let's start :) --Thaliapap (talk) 11:42, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Here are my suggestions. First I will mention in the WP Museum project that we are doing a cleanup in the Greek Museums category so we avoid deletion problems while we are at it. Second I will make a round in each and every item in Category:Museums in Greece, and, leaving all developed articles alone (see below about basic stubs), I will create a list in my sandbox of all the undeveloped stubs. This (without picture) is an example of an article that has become a developed stub. It has enough text to be much better than a dictionary entry and it has to link to at least one site, official preferably, to avoid "reference" tags. We should aim to get all the articles we want to save from deletion to this stage. Some of the undeveloped stubs have already a link to some website but often I find this link very poor to give us enough material. So it would be good, as we go through them to search in Google (or even other sources if you know any) and see if there is a better one and add it in the article. The text of the website should be in English. Can you do the searching part?
If we can find nothing, then 1) we should immediately mark it as "no info" in my list, 2) see that they are included in the List of museums in Greece, 3) remove their link from the list leaving them as simple text, and 4) tag them for deletion. If you see any that you think they should be further developed, you could also mark them as "to develop" in my list. But whether we find something or not, we should try to judge if this is a notable museum. Surely there is a room named "museum" in every village with some local items in them. We need to save only these articles that are of a notable museum and can become useful articles. This requires some insight and maybe, if in doubt, checking with some official source or local authority. The priority is to do some fast work to get all the important ones developed enough to be beyond deletion danger. Please feel free to discuss any part of my suggestion you find unnecessary or make other suggestions. If you need any help for editing, I have lots of useful links in my tools. Hoverfish Talk 12:47, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Perfect!! I can do all the searching part (I am good at this!). So I will :
- search for links, informatios etc. to expand articles
- I will try to take some pictures that are missing of Museums in Athens since I live here and walk around them
The way you proposed to gather information and organize museums is fantastic really. I already started Gounaropoulos Museum article and I am trying to find some more information - I will also ask the museum's directors to give me sth. Thaliapap
I have removed the deletion tags from the Gounaropoulos Museum article and mentioned in the talk page that you are at it. Keep in mind that Wikipedia frowns at material copied directly from brochures or sounding like one. Also at best try to find verifiable sources (mention of the museum in some notable book and so on). Links to sites are acceptable but written sources are better. Hoverfish Talk 13:49, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Oh, and while you are searching for info, please do note in my list the Category of museum (if not obvious). For example if the name includes "folk -or ethnographic museum", it is clear enough, but something like Frantzeskaki Museum not. Hoverfish Talk 13:55, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Hi, I hope the amount of articles gathered in the work-page didn't discourage you. I've done lots to put some order in the lot and make it more volunteer-friendly. I also wanted to make a round and take some photos but the weather turned less photogenic :( Hope to hear from you soon. Take care. Hoverfish Talk 14:34, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
No No No!!! I am not descouraged at all!! I will be really really busy until Monday cause I have to deliver a project for my work. I will be back soon. Maybe you would like to take a break so we can continue together. I was impressed with the work you' ve done. The way you organised the work will be helpful and maybe we can ask for more contributors. Keep up the good work and I will be with you soon!--Thaliapap (talk) 22:22, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Hoverfish please forgive me!! I have to take some more days away from Wikipedia work. Sorry. --Thaliapap (talk) 18:02, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
No worries Thaiapap. I had a couple of nice photo-tours downtown lately and ended up with some useful leaflets as well. Here are the images I got, in case you also feel like shooting some: commons:Category:Hoverfish. Take care. Hoverfish Talk 19:09, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Survey
editHi Thalia!
I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!
It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!
Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!
Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you! THaliapap, you are invited!
editYou're invited to be a part of Wikipedia:WikiProject University of Belgrade, an attempt to better organize information in articles related to the University of Belgrade. To accept this invitation, click here! Articles related to other universities in Belgrade, Serbia and Southeast Europe may be discussed as well. This helps share information and foster knowledge about higher education in the region. |
I was thinking you could add something about Greek universities, as we are seeking to share information. --Comparativist1 (talk) 19:31, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
