Tongan Language Tables

I don't know maybe your computer has it different or something but when I look at the tables in their current form, they are all black. That's why I took away the colours. If you find a way to actually show the colours, you should put it like that. Munci (talk) 10:01, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Then I am afraid there is something wrong with your computer or browser, as the colours are generated by standard html codes. In fact they are even limited to the old 216 web colours only.

Yes, it appears you are right. The one on the left is black and the one on the right is orange. The computers provided by my uni are obviously old. I think the table should be in the wiki format for tables in case anyone else has an old computer and that's what tables are supposed to be in and that would take less code space up anyway. Speedy deletion of Tongan music notation

A tag has been placed on Tongan music notation requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Reconsidered

After looking into this more, I think the article should stay, but I've deleted the text that was a copyright violation. This left the article very short, but people will still be able to follow the link to the webpage that describes the notation. Just any starmap mapped onto a sphere. I do not have the originals any more. George Tupou V

I removed a highly POV paragraph that did not link any sources. If you feel it belongs, please re-add it in, but make sure that it has a neutral point of view. The previous passage only mentioned criticism, but did not include sourced information like [1], which says "local Tongan community leaders say it was right for him to have attended the festival in Scotland". And something such as "accused him of being too wrapped up in himself and insensitive to his people's grief" (from the previous version) definitely needs a linkable source, otherwise, it's not very verifiable. PM Lord Tuʻivakanō

Hi. Are you absolutely certain it's "Sialeʻataongo Tuʻivakanō", rather than "Sialeʻataonga"? The spelling with an "a" gets over 2,000 Google hits, including articles in reputable media (including Matangi Tonga), and the CIA's page on the Tongan cabinet. The spelling with an "o" gets just 87 Google hits, most of them mirrors of one another, and only one is a media article usable as a source. I see you've mentioned Planet Tonga to source the move, but I very much doubt Planet Tonga constitutes a valid source for Wikipedia's purposes. Unfortunately, there's no information yet on Tongan government websites, so unless you have a reputable source proving that the spelling with an "a" is wrong, I think we should revert to that spelling. Yes, I am quite certain. ʻAtaongo is a common name in Tonga, although somewhat rare, while ʻAtaonga is not. ʻAta-ongo has a meaning (many meanings in fact, not sure about the right one: far-carrying/well-known freedom/openness), while onga does not exist. Siale (flower) is a very common name. The proper writing of the name is probably Siale ʻAtaongo, but merging them would not be extraordinary.

Indeed it is remarkable how secret Tuʻivakanō's real name appears to be, or his familyname for that matter (Kaho). I guess one day a biography will appear somewhere with them mentioned, but when?

I also did these Google searches already in December, and at that time there was barely any hit for both. I cannot escape the conclusion that Idiotsavant introduced the name Sialeʻataonga on 9 December and that all hits you see now are just copies of it. Wikipedia is a trentsetter! And where did he get it from? Genealogical Gleanings - a site which does not exist anymore, but which I have known in the past to contain spellings errors. Planet Tonga in this respect is not better and not worse. So if we have to go by these types of sources, everything is 50%-50%. But at least these sources are original. I knew this error already for some time, but have waited with the change until I found it in at least one such source. Matangi Tonga? I have watched it all the time: not a single time they have used the name.

All right. Given the paucity of sources, and your knowledge of Tongan names, that makes senses (even if it doesn't really abide by Wikipedia's policy of "Verifiability, not truth"). Thanks for the clarification. (As for Matangi Tonga, if you Google "Sialeʻataongo Tuʻivakanō", one of the first hits is a strangely truncated title of a Matangi Tonga article: "Siale'ataonga Tu'ivakano by 14 votes to - Matangi Tonga Online". But if you click on the link, the name no longer appears. Seems they initially included it, then dropped it, for whatever reason. Aridd (talk) 08:38, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Tauʻolunga. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Equation of time

You made substantial changes to Equation of time in 2006. Several edits have been made to this section recently, and there is still a request for citation after the table giving minima and maxima of the equation of time. Would you please explain where you obtained these values from? Jc3s5h (talk) 13:37, 22 December 2019 (UTC)
