Hey, just a note to say that you should check an article's history before declaring it blank and sending it for Speedy. I'd put the article up for deletion and the user was blanking it. I realise this isn't a big thing, but it could mess up the vfd I've already got for it. Kel-nage 21:19, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hello,

Thank you for your stub submission. You may wish to note that it is preferable to use a stub template from Wikipedia:WikiProject_Stub_sorting/Stub_types instead of using simply {{stub}}, if you can.

Request for edit summary

edit

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. – Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 05:06, 8 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well...

edit

I still don't think tagging all of the talk pages does anything good for Pittsburgh. About the only thing Leechburg currently has to do with Pittsburg is if you threw a trash bag into the river, eventually it will float to Pittsburgh. I'm willing to bet that by tagging this town as a part of your project, aproximatly 0 progress on the Leechburg Article will happen over the next 10 years as a direct or indirect result. A town this far away simply will not benefit. Go tag Oakmont, they haven't been tagged yet. And they are way closer. They are even on the Allegheny River! :P back to you. --Cngodles 13:31, 22 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yet the scope of the WikiProject would seem to encompass Leechburg? If you feel the article needs attention, you could go to the WikiProject and mark it for attention? Splintercellguy 16:34, 22 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

your edit to User:Riz001

edit

To leave someone a message, use their user talk page (like this one), not their User page. A User page is for editors to describe themselves. The User talk page (you want User talk:Riz001) is where they get messages. If you put something on the User page they will not get the yellow "You have new messages" bar. welcome tag

edit

About this, User_talk:Pastorgregg I figured someone might find that odd. I intended to remove the welcome from the user page and move it to discussion, but I had no indication that the user in question even knows about the existence and purpose of talk pages yet. I know new users have had a problem making the distinction. Thankfully, you didn't remove it, so now the user has two places to find the info. Regards, dr.ef.tymac 22:13, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Merging ASL and ASL grammar articles

edit

When you set up a merge-to template, you're also supposed to set up a merge-from template on the other article (ASL grammar). Then you're supposed to create a section on the Talk page that the "Discuss" link takes you to (in this case, the ASL talk page) and explain the reason you proposed the merge. The fact that this wasn't done is probably the reason there have zero comments on your proposed merge since you proposed it over a month ago. I'll give this a couple of days. After that I'm removing the merge template if you don't correct the problem. Thanks. Ward3001 18:32, 5 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

My reference desk question

edit

I already have VLC Media Player, but using it to save streams is too heard for me since I am clueless about the underlying technical stuff. It's even worse when you have no URL to stream to begin with (but there's URL sniffers for that right?). It might work if you can provide me with a step-to-step guide. - Mgm|(talk) 07:42, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Ah, I thought all those selections where mandatory. I'll give your tips a go. I'll still be looking for a free alternative to the functionality of the program I tried, because it's still easier. I think VLC also doesn't support all URLs, but I can try to find out. - Mgm|(talk) 08:48, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Tunnel beaconing.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Tunnel beaconing.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 08:34, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:LieutenantEvaRA2.png

Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:13, 7 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:One_Magic_Christmas_DVD_Cover.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:One_Magic_Christmas_DVD_Cover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
