Bargoed

Hi there. I appreciate your vigilance in reverting my edit on Bargoed. My intention was simply to correct the IPA to conform to Wikipedia's English IPA key, whose practice of representing diaphonemes requires converting RP /ɑː/ to the key's /ɑːr/ (for speakers of rhotic accents). I'd assumed simply correcting the IPA to reflect Wikipedia's standard counted as a minor edit in the same way as a spelling error would, so my apologies if I was wrong. Am I OK to go ahead and recorrect it? Thanks. Llusiduonbach (talk) 21:56, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

Llusiduonbach IPA, like anything else on Wikipedia, is required to be verifiable WP:V. By your original work you have come up with your preferred version of IPA on the Bargoed page and replaced the equally unsourced version of another. I suggest you go to the article talk page and resolve it with them. English IPA key is not a Wikipedia policy, standard or even a guidance, so to be taken with a pinch of salt. A Dictionary of Place-Names looks to be a reasonable place to start looking for a source. Best wishes.SovalValtos (talk) 03:52, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
SovalValtos OK, thanks for clarifying that. I didn't realise the English IPA key wasn't a Wikipedia standard. I thought the aim was for all English IPA transcriptions to conform to it. Llusiduonbach (talk) 10:33, 14 April 2021 (UTC)

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Godalming. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. Thank you. Cladeal832 (talk) 15:21, 24 April 2021 (UTC).

Murgatroyd49 retention

User:Mertbiol, User:Jaguar, User:KJP1, User:Charlesdrakew, User:Bmcln1, User:Dudley Miles Some of you may have noticed that Murgatroyd49 has stopped editing but not be aware of the reason why as they have blanked their user and talk pages. The reason is given by them here Godalming article help please. I at least consider them to be an enduringly valuable editor and would like to see them return. If anyone knows them in real life or has an email for them perhaps you could help by contacting them?SovalValtos (talk) 08:45, 29 April 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for those kind words. I felt a period away from Wikipedia was needed as our American barrack-room lawyer friend was getting to me. I, hopefully, feel better now. Not only that but I keep seeing things in other articles that need dealing with! I will stay away from Godalming (the article not the town) for the time being though. Regards Murgatroyd49 (talk) 17:48, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
It is excellent news to see you back Murgatroyd49. Thanks to anyone who helped behind the scenes. You were not the only editor sufficiently irritated by incompetent edits, language and the ignoring of help to be driven to be considering leaving. Hopefully User:Oshwah will find time to revert the problem off-topic Enton Hall material on the Godalming page. I am being patient in waiting for a reply to my request [1]. If problems are not addressed now they will re-occur.SovalValtos (talk) 16:54, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
Patience is virtue I need to cultivate more! Murgatroyd49 (talk) 18:21, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

Queen's College amendment

We have received your note regarding our recent amendment to the school's entry on Wikipaedia. We explained in an editing note that the changes had involved updating our information following the appointment of a new Headmaster. The changes should, therefore, remain in place as they are relevant to anyone seeking up-to-date information regarding our school. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KM Bird (talkcontribs) 09:05, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
