editI am aware of the dispute. I agree that the original is better. I think it should be redirected as I mentioned in the discussion. Please read my comment there.—WAvegetarian•(talk) 21:35, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Regarding the Battlefield 2142 storyline article
editI understand the need for factual details with Wikipedia, so technically it is wrong for me to call the BF2142 war "World War IV" - the only name DICE has given to the conflict so far is "Cold War".
However, as you said, I called it WWIV by making two assumptions: 1. Battlefield 2142 takes place in the same universe as Battlefield 2 2. The Conflict portrayed in Battlefield 2 is a "world war"
I justify my assumption with the idea that naming something a "world war" is subjective - there have been what, 9 "world wars" in all of history? Yet only the ones in the 20th century have been labeled so. Therefore, I would argue that the term "World War IV" is accurate when describing the "Cold War".
Windows2142
Postscript: Do you know anything about citing sources and stuff, like the little numbers after sentences etc? I want my article out of the "articles lacking sources" category, but the only thing I know how to do is link to the 2142 official site at the bottom, which is where I pretty much got all my info.

Your solicitations to help
editI saw your message on WP:SLR wanting to help in this issue. I am one of the few SL conflict specific editors trying to document in a neutral manner encylopedic articles about the killing fields of Sri Lanka. We can more than use your help. In what way do you want to help ? Thanks Taprobanus 13:56, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
- This is an SLR sister project. There are number of articles created but they need help from copy editing, and vandalism control and really to make them adhere to all policies of Wikipedia. Your help will be appreciated. Thanks Taprobanus 17:19, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Invitation to Wikipedia meetup in London
editDate: 13:00 onwards, Sunday 10 August 2008
Venue: Penderel's Oak pub, Holborn WC1 map
More information: Wikipedia:Meetup/London 12
Hello,
I noticed that you have listed yourself as a Wikipedian in London, so I thought you might like to come to one of our monthly social meetups. The next one is going to be on Sunday 10 August, which might well be rather short notice, but if you can't come this time, we try to have one every second Sunday of the month.
If you haven't been before, these meetups are mainly casual social events for Wikipedia enthusiasts in which we chat about Wikipedia and any other topics we fancy. It's a great way to meet some very keen Wikipedians, but we'd also love for you to come along if you're interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, or other collaborative wiki projects too.
The location is a pub that is quite quiet and family friendly on a Sunday lunchtime, so hopefully younger Wikipedians will also feel welcome and safe. Alcohol consumption is certainly not required!
Although the meetups are popular, many UK-based editors still don't know about them. It would be great to welcome some fresh faces, so I hope you can come along.
Yours,
James F. (talk) 09:27, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
Please forgive the slightly impersonal mass-invite!
London Wikimedia Fundraiser
editGood evening! This is a friendly message from Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry, inviting you to the London Wikimedia Fundraising party on 19th December 2010, in approximately one week. This party is being held at an artistic London venue with room for approximately 300 people, and is being funded by Ed Saperia, a non-Wikipedian who has a reputation for holding exclusive events all over London. This year, he wants to help Wikipedia, and is subsidising a charity event for us. We're keen to get as many Wikimedians coming as possible, and we already have approximately 200 guests, including members of the press, and some mystery guests! More details can be found at http://ten.wiki.x.io/wiki/London - expect an Eigenharp, a mulled wine hot tub, a free hog roast, a haybale amphitheatre and more. If you're interested in coming - and we'd love to have you - please go to the ten.wikipedia page and follow the link to the Facebook event. Signing up on Facebook will add you to the party guestlist. Entry fee is a heavily subsidised £5 and entry is restricted to over 18s. It promises to be a 10th birthday party to remember! If you have any questions, please email me at chasemewiki at gmail.com.
Hope we'll see you there, (and apologies for the talk page spam) - Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 23:55, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka
editDear Seriphyn,
Thank you for your contributions to the Wikimedia Projects. As an editor from Sri Lanka, you are warmly invited to join the official Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka and to subscribe to its mailing list, Wikimedia-LK. The user group currently includes volunteers from Wikipedia and other projects, from the English, Sinhala, and Tamil speaking communities. It is the Wikimedia-approved platform for editors from Sri Lanka to enable wider collaboration, for both online and offline projects. With your support, we hope to organize cross-project content improvement drives as part of online projects, as well as organize in-person edit-a-thons, training sessions, photowalks, and other such activities, in the near future. The ultimate goal(s) of these initiatives is to improve the overall coverage and quality of topics relating to Sri Lanka, as well as encourage new editors to join the Wikimedia community, while simultaneously empowering and retaining our existing team of editors. There are no mandatory obligations for members who choose join the community, other than the usual editing rules for online projects, and the friendly space policy for in-person projects. You may also (or instead) subscribe to the mailing list, where any member could initiate discussions with volunteers across projects, notify members of events and meetings, stay up to date with competitions, organize your own events, and so on. See you on board, and Happy Editing! | |
