Request for Your Opinion

Hello there! I'm contributing to work on rewriting the List of SoltyRei characters article, and I was wondering if I could ask your opinions on a few formatting matters, in terms of the conventions of the Anime/Manga WikiProject. You are recognized as a prolific and authoritative editor within the WikiProject (and beyond), and I'd like to get your viewpoints if possible, whenever you may have the time. The rewrites are currently being done in a sandbox page here.

The specific focus of my request for your opinion is the citation style. I've been looking around for a good model of how to cite for an anime character page, and so far I haven't been able to find any consistent patterns, so I've decided to take a hybrid approach of both quoting from the transcript of the anime and citing episodes using the {{cite episode}} template (when quotations are inappropriate). Is this a good approach? I am worried that it may be excessive given the precedents I've seen, but conversely, it may be possible that the thoroughness of those precedents is lacking. Beyond that, any other comments about other aspects are more than welcome. For instance, I'm not sure whether or not I should use an in-text explicit reference to episode numbers, and so I would very much appreciate some input on my approaches there, as well. The associated talk page includes a changelog and a number of notes about it, and may be the best place to respond with comments. Thank you very much for your time, and happy editing!  Elunah であります  Rawr!  01:42, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply! Your comments were very helpful, especially with regards to List of characters in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow. It's very helpful to be able to look at another FA character list. I had two follow-up questions, if I might be allowed. One, do you feel that the quotation-based citation style they use in the Castlevania article is suitable for an anime like SoltyRei? Two, once other editors and I have made significant revisions, what is the process for requesting review for a higher quality rating, if the quality were to improve? Thanks again for all your help.  Elunah であります  Rawr!  00:30, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Request to unlock Goodnight Sweetheart episode page

The disputes have been resolved with user:Collectonian, hence could you please unblock the Goodnight Sweetheart episode page so I can finish it? Thanks. Edito*Magica (talk) 12:19, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Hey...things seemed to be okay on this page, but now that its no longer protected Edito*Magico seems to be ready to start another edit war over both List of Keeping Up Appearances episodes and List of Goodnight Sweetheart episodes. Now he is arguing that all of the summaries should have Synopsis: added to the front of them. Both I and UpDown have again told him that it isn't how an episode list is normally formatted, and that if he felt it should be added he should discussed it at the episode template. However, he is doing the same thing as before, "discussing, while continuing to put them back when we remove them. Since you know some of the history, and have extensive experience with FL episode lists, would you be willing to come offer your view at Talk:List of Keeping Up Appearances episodes#Synopsis. Respond to Sephiroth BCR

First off, let me say that I feel very honored to have you as my 'administrator coach' here on Wikipedia. You've proven to me that you are a truly dedicated administrator on Wikipedia and is willing to help out people who choose to seek help, and I thank you for it. I'm also very happy that you are an administrator that is more geared towards content-building, as that is ideally where I would like to spend the bulk of my time here on Wikipedia. In the past 24 hours, though, I have warned several users who have vandalized articles and have reported some, as well, after they vandalized articles that I heavily contributed towards. This proves to me that the two can definitely be intertwined, and so I will still gain experience if I become a content-builder.

I loved reading your advice and suggestions, and I think that a lot of it will help save me a lot of time. I've had some exposure to WP:FAC, WP:FLC, and WP:GAN processes already (I've submitted at least a handful of articles to each), but not enough to learn the ropes yet, so your knowledge will contribute substantially to my missing knowledge. I've also learned on my own that WP:PR is pretty much dead, and am entertained at just how brutally honest you are about that, too!

In conclusion, as I've said before and will say again, my primary goal will be to do a lot of content building on Wikipedia in the next few weeks, and see how many Featured Articles I can build. You mentioned that you are interested in anime and video games; I'm not very interested in anime, but I am definitely interested in video games. I would love to build some video game articles into FA's and get your advice when I think I need it. Also, as you've mentioned, you are a prolific list-builder; I will probably also build lists of television episodes as I'm interested in that, and I'd be happy if I could come to you for advice on those, as well, when I think I need it. I'll most likely simply ask you to review articles that I've written right before submitting them for WP:FAN.

Again, thanks for taking me on as your 'Wikipedia apprentice'! I hope to make you proud :) Gary King (talk) 05:30, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Also, I'm curious to know how much time it generally takes you to complete a Featured Article and a Featured List? Gary King (talk) 05:59, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
I'd be delighted if you could comment on this: Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of autonomous areas by country. Gary King (talk) 16:36, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Also, just a quick FYI, I got an article passed as a WP:GA a few minutes ago at Guitar Hero 3. It wasn't one that I heavily contributed to, though, but I have a few more that will (hopefully) pass as WP:FA and WP:FL in the next week. Gary King (talk) 22:56, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

List of countries without armed forces is going to be an WP:FLC soon

If you have time, could you please take a look at List of countries without armed forces and tell me what you think I should improve? I'm going to be nominating it for a WP:FLC soon. Also, feel free to edit something if you think that your change will improve the article. Thanks! Gary King (talk) 02:50, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Updated with "The 6,000 strong Haitian National Police maintains some paramilitary units; these units are considered to be larger than what is required, considering the much smaller militaries of neighboring countries." Gary King (talk) 03:13, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Hm, I don't understand why you would add a period for the image's caption of "Countries without an army", because it's not a full sentence so I don't see how it could end in a period? Or is that standard Wikipedia guidelines? Gary King (talk) 16:38, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
I've nominated it at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of countries without armed forces. Please post your comments, thanks! Gary King (talk) 18:42, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Requesting peer review of List of unrecognized countries before listing as WP:FLC

Hi, I am requesting your time to peer review the List of unrecognized countries article. I would like to list it as a WP:FLC but feel that a peer review from you will help increase its chances of passing. Thanks for taking a look! Gary King (talk) 21:13, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Please post your comments at Wikipedia:Peer review/List of unrecognized countries/archive1 and feel free to edit the article if you feel that certain things need to be modified and are fairly trivial. Gary King (talk) 21:17, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

List of unrecognized countries has been nominated as a WP:FLC

I have just nominated List of unrecognized countries as a WP:FLC at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of unrecognized countries/archive1 and would appreciate it if you could vote in it, criticize it, and hopefully eventually fall in love with the article. Also, feel free to edit the article if you feel that a minor edit is needed. Thanks! Gary King (talk) 06:16, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

List of recessions

Hey, I'm curious if I need to reference every recession listed here at List of recessions? Every recession has a Wikipedia article, and that's where I would be getting most of the information from, so would I even need to reference each one with another third party source? Or, can I just use the Wikipedia links and 'put the burden' on the individual Wikipedia articles to reference their own information? Essentially, this list is just a summary of multiple articles on Wikipedia. Gary King (talk) 22:29, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Also, I've got "Recessions that have a Wikipedia article are considered notable and therefore are listed here." but I'm not sure if that's acceptable or not? I'm sure the meaning is understood by a typical reader, but I'm not sure if that's an acceptable statement to put on an article, and if not, how can I reword it, or do I have to use a different method of choosing recessions, and if so, then how? (Long sentence, I know :)) Gary King (talk) 22:32, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Nominating List of recessions as a WP:FLC

Question about Josquin des Prez

For Josquin des Prez, I'm curious to know why references are not needed for the following sentences in the opening paragraphs:

  • He was the most famous European composer between Guillaume Dufay and Palestrina, and is usually considered to be the central figure of the Franco-Flemish School.
  • Josquin is widely considered by music scholars to be the first master of the high Renaissance style of polyphonic vocal music that was emerging during his lifetime.

I was told I needed to reference sentences like these in my own articles when they were going through WP:FAC and WP:FLC. Gary King (talk) 08:40, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Is this style of referencing allowed at List of billionaires (2007)?

For List of billionaires (2007) each row uses an existing article as a source. Would this be acceptable for a WP:FL? Gary King (talk) 22:48, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Saddened to see top-level articles in such poor state

<rant>This is just a rant, but I'm saddened to see so many top-level articles in such poor state. An example is Journalism which I was just reading a few minutes ago, and it looks really, really, really bad. I can't wait for the ultimate moment when every single article on Wikipedia is a WP:FA (one can certainly dream! Plus, I'm sure that's one of the ultimate goals of Wikipedia?) I understand that it is easier to edit articles that are not as broad as top-level articles, and it is more interesting to edit articles that are very specific because people tend to gravitate more towards something that they can strongly relate to, so like many things on Wikipedia, it's a catch 20-20.</rant> Gary King (talk) 23:27, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Requesting unprotection

Could you unprotect List of billionaires (2008) please? The new list on Forbes.com is out. Gary King (talk) 02:15, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

To be fair, the vandalism was because of speculation of what the list would look like. There's no argument about the list now. Here is a draft (not done by me) and is waiting for the page to be unprotected: User:Jklamo/List of billionaires (2008). Gary King (talk) 02:37, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: Gaara GA run

I started on it the other day, but I found I was procrastinating on too many other things to finish it. Confidentially, I also realized I'm not as familiar with Gaara as I am with other characters and thus needed to give his article more thought. Regardless, weekends are the ideal time for me to do complete rewrites, so I'll have it done by Sunday at the latest. Happy the ninth! ~SnapperTo 23:48, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Question about Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow

When you were building up Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow with your draft in your user namespace, were you also incorporating new edits that the existing article was receiving, or were you planning on rewriting the whole thing 'from scratch'? Just curious as to different processes of building up FAs. Gary King (talk) 05:55, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Alright thanks, that's what I wanted to know and that's what I assumed. The articles that I plan on working on are a bit more notable and I would imagine has more vandalism (I'm working on Facebook right now, and it's not difficult to imagine how much traffic it gets). It might be a bit ambitious of me to try and make a Featured Article out of something like this, but I'll give it a shot and hopefully it'll be my first FA. If not, then I'll try and go for something more obscure next time! Gary King (talk) 06:05, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Regarding the AFD, I actually nominated it then quickly removed it from nomination. It's just the nomination page itself that still exists, but it isn't shown on the actual listings. I'll just make a note of it on the page itself right now. Gary King (talk) 06:06, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Also, where do you normally go to find AFDs to nominate? The ones I usually find are among New Pages and I've nominated a few dozen from there, and so far, no one has mentioned to not do that to me. I do this when a CSD is inappropriate. Gary King (talk) 06:07, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
I recall seeing some AFDs that were tagged by WikiProjects, or placed in categories, or something similar. Do you know where I could find these? Maybe it'll help me find articles that are up for AFD that are more relevant to my interests, because a lot of the articles up for AFD, I know nothing about. Gary King (talk) 06:15, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Chances are probably really low that I would recognize one of the proposed AFDs, since their nomination already somewhat indicates a lack of notability. I don't know how people manage to find a topic in there that they know something about! Gary King (talk) 06:20, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
I found some pages that could be useful, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Internet. I'll try Watching those and see what comes up. Gary King (talk) 06:21, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm only somewhat interested in video games (I wish I had more time to spend on them!), but I think Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Websites has caught my fancy and I'll be hanging out there. I'm pretty familiar with new websites that spring up and I'll use that knowledge as an aid for my votes and arguments for or against an article. Gary King (talk) 06:39, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Alright, I have added my thoughts to some AFDs and will leave it as such for the time being. I'll continue to Watch that category and add my thoughts to anything new that comes up; it shouldn't be too often but not too little; it appears to be about once a day. Gary King (talk) 07:13, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

What did I do?

What did I do? I was reverting useless and not needed changes on the Destroy All Humans! template. And how does Patmar have good faith? He knew what he was doing was wrong when I told him to stop messing with the template the first time and he kept messing with it. Tell me, how is he innocent? And did you see the way he kept talking to me on my user page? And yes, I did back to him, but I stopped. And he followed me to another DAH! page and reverted one of my edits because he's not having his way. And recently, he said I was following him. Well if he wouldn't make unnecessary changes, I wouldn't be following him. --Naruto134 00:00, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Naruto conception information

I heard many things about that this book [1] has a lot of conception info about Rock Lee and many characters. I guess this [2] book also has. The problem is getting them! Well, just wanted to tell you if anybody you know has it, it would be great to add to the articles. See you.--Tintor2 16:04, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

I found this [3] official website of sasuke uchiha (I can confirm it is official with this link [4]) and added it to the article. However, I think you could make it more accurate. About the books, my main problem is that I live in South America (crying, lol) and viz media doesnt sell books here. Well, see you.--Tintor2 20:37, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: Rukia Kuchiki GA run

Kubo seems to dedicate most of his free time to omake stuff, whereas Kishimoto dedicates his free time to explaining his reasonings for whatever. This is advantageous from a fan's perspective, but doesn't do much for encyclopedia conception sections. SOULs might have something on a few characters' creations, but that has yet to be made available in the States and translations for it are scarce. Perhaps something could be scrounged up from how the current Rukia differs from her counterpart in the Bleach pilot? As to cleaning out Rukia's article, I'll see what I can do. With Naruto, I'm very familiar with the series and thus I can write about it from the top of my head, so minuet points that aren't important enough to recollect don't end up in the article. This isn't the case for Bleach, so I'm not sure how short/extensive I could make it while simultaneously refreshing my memory. But again, I'll see what I can do, probably this weekend-ish. ~SnapperTo 23:20, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
