Welcome

Hello, Tahlial and welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are participating in a class project. If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to go through our training for students. Go through our online training for students

If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Please also read this helpful advice for students.

Before you create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.

Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, and if your class doesn't already have one please tell your instructor about that. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know this article is a subject of an educational assignment and aid your communication with them.

We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay even after your assignment is finished! Drmies (talk) 03:14, 4 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Tooth whitening. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. bonadea contributions talk 06:31, 14 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Tooth whitening. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. bonadea contributions talk 06:59, 14 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you insert a spam link, as you did at Tooth whitening. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines. bonadea contributions talk 07:30, 14 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Your addition to Tooth whitening has been removed in whole or in part, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously and persistent violators of our copyright policy will be blocked from editing. See Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources for more information. bonadea contributions talk 08:48, 14 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

You restored the copyright violating text (taken from this source with minimal changes) to Tooth whitening despite the warning above. You cannot copy text from copyrighted sources and add it to Wikipedia articles with only a few words changed or removed. Furthermore, the text you added, and the external links to promotional websites, were unsuitable for other reasons: there was no actual information there, only promotional claims and advertising for a company. As you were tol above, copyright violations are taken very seriously and repeated violations may lead to your account being blocked from editing. --bonadea contributions talk 09:20, 14 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Dear Bondadea and Tony,

I'm so sorry that I did this. This is my first time editing wikipedia and it is a part of my university assessment. I only just learned to look at the messages, hence did not see all the messages that you had already send to me in the past. I would just like to know what kind of articles can I use to link. I'm so confused on how to use wikipedia, how to edit it and how to reference appropriately. I'm honestly so sorry that I put you in this position

Hi Sanjay 19341519, thank you for posting this! Don't worry - it was clear that you did not understand that you were doing anything wrong, but since it can land Wikipdia in a difficult position if there are copyright violations, there has to be a rather strict policy about it. Wikipedia has a lot of rules, guidelines, and policies, and new editors can't be expected to know exactly how to navigate between them from the start. It's very good that you now know that you need to use your user talk page - another good place to go if you want help with editing is the "Tea house", a board where experienced and friendly editors respond to questions about editing from newer editors. You can often get a fairly quick response there, since there are editors in almost all time zones who hang out in there.
Since you are editing articles related to a medical topic, the requirements for high-quality sources are pretty high. It is never a good idea to use e.g. a commercial tooth whitening company's website as a source - anything that directly tries to get the reader to buy a specific product or a service is best avoided. The sources in Tooth whitening are in general articles in scientific journals, as you can see in the list of references. In medical Wikipedia articles, the policy about sources is found here, and the general requirement for sources anywhere in Wikipedia is here. If you are wondering whether a particular source is good to use, there is a noticeboard where you can ask, here, or you can ask that kind of thing at the Tea house as well.
I know that you are editing as part of a course requirement, and maybe you don't plan to go on editing Wikipedia once the course is finished, but it might still be a good idea for you to check out the Wikipedia Adventure, which is an interactive tutorial that takes an hour or so (maybe less) and which takes you through some of the most important policies and guidelines that are good to be aware of. Maybe you'll end up enjoying this so much that you stay on! :-)
I hope this makes sense, and that it wasn't too much info in one go! If you have any other questions, or if any of this is unclear, I'll be watching this talk page so I'll see if you post anything here. All the best, --bonadea contributions talk 11:35, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much.

Hello Bonadea,

Thank you so much for the quick response, I appreciate it a lot and was also able to understand a lot. I will be trying to edit some sections of this page as we must, in order to pass our assessment. I will ensure to try and find peer reviewed articles as my source, but if it does not meet the standards of wikipedia, please do tell me and I will ensure to do the necessary. Once again, I thank you for understanding and hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards, Sanjay 19341519

Hello,

Could someone please check the edits that I've made to the "risks" section of the Wikipedia. Before I make more edits, I would like someone to clarify/confirm that I'm doing everything correctly and under the proper guidelines of Wikipedia.

Thank you so much. Please get back to me ASAP.
