Speedy deletion nomination of Jason DeMarte
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Jason DeMarte requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Contrary to what you say on your user page, that you are "creating and editing pages about artists and artworks in UMMA's collection", in fact all you seem to do is add external links to your employer's website, often of dubious relevance & utility. You say you are aware of WP:COI. I suggest you give it another read. Johnbod (talk) 16:18, 30 October 2020 (UTC)

Status and advice
editAs reviewing administrator, I did not delete it, for it might well be a viable article. As suggested by a previous reviewer, I think it would probably be best to rework it as an article on the firm. This is likely to be helpful, for the presence of its work in major museums is good evidence for notability under WP:CREATIVE. What would be needed, though ,are exact references to at least some of the photographs in the permanent collection of the museums. If you need help with this, you might try Pharos, who has worked extensively with museum collections. You've got another 6 months automatically--ask me if there are any difficulties. DGG ( talk ) 01:51, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Further advice about WIR
editI was previously WIR for the NYPL Library of Performing Arts, but I did it as a volunteer, and did not consider that I had a conflict of interest. (and ,though I thought at first I would write some articles on the collections, I mainly gave advice to people who wanted to do so) . Under our current interpretation of the guidelines, if you write about articles in their collection, you are a coi editor, and must declare it for every article under the provision of WP:PAID. (I feel rather strongly about this, for I was one of those who helped establish the rule). With respect to adding links, as mentioned above, If you are adding a link for a unique item to an article about the item, this is justified and not spam but must still be declared. If you are adding links to a copy of a photograph that is in many museums, you should try to list other museums as well, or add the link through WikiData. Again, if in doubt consult User:Pharos. DGG ( talk ) 02:26, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi DGG, thanks for your advice. I will take a close look at the WP:Paid page and see what next steps I need to take. Still learning how all this works, but I really appreciate the guidance! -- Rynb99

Golf tournaments in "Category:History of women in foo (state/country)" categories
editCan you please explain this as there do not really seem to fit with the general purpose of the category? Given some of the other categorisation you have done, it looks like they have been put there simply because "Category:Women's sport in foo (state/country)" does not exist. If this is valid categorisation, then for consistency should those articles that have been put only in "Category:Women's sport in foo" categories not also be in "Category:History of women in foo", since one is not sub-cat of the other? I also notice some articles have be categorised in "Category:History of..." when "Category:Women's sport in..." exists. Thanks. wjematherplease leave a message... 11:22, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
Hi User:Wjemather, thanks for checking on this. You are correct, I was adding the women's golf tournaments to "category: history of women in foo" because the "Category:Women's sport in foo" does not exist for a many them. Part of my thinking too was that I had done it for other sports events/awards (ex. Miss Basketball, since those pages are very clearly about women in those states), but I'm realizing now (a little late) that these golf tournaments are not actually made up of athletes who live/play in that area. I still might create a "women's sports in foo" category for the states that are missing them, and am trying to figure out the most efficient process, so I appreciate you bringing this up! Help getting page approved
editHi! I saw you've done a lot of really great work creating artist profiles for Wikipedia. I'm working on one for an Indian artist, Pritika Chowdhry, and am wondering if you can offer any insight into ensuring the citations qualify the article as reliable/sufficiently notable. Thanks!
The article link is here: https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Draft:Pritika_Chowdhry
Tysm! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matriarch-info (talk • contribs) 19:24, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hi! Thanks for reaching out. The citations look pretty good to me; I'm searching for more sources now, and it looks like you have used just about all of them already. One possible issue is that I couldn't find anything about her work being in any museum collections (and for many of the artists I made pages for, they had artwork in several museums and that helped confer some notability). But, I'd think all of the research papers she is mentioned in would be a plus. (WP:BASIC "People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.") This page also has some good info although it may be stuff you already know.
- Another thing you could keep in mind for the future is that it's possible to skip the AfC process and instead create pages via these methods (I prefer #1). The downside of this is needing to write a substantial amount all at once instead of having a long time to work on a draft. A couple I have made this way have eventually been nominated for deletion, but overall I have found it to be a lot more efficient than going through AfC. But of course, AfC has a lot of benefits too so take that with a grain of salt.
- Hope this helps! Rynb99 (talk) 14:10, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

- We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
- Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
- Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
- If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.
Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
