Recent reverts review

Going through your recent reverts, everything looked good, except for a minor error. There was this one in which you added back the vandalism, but that was obviously Clue Bot's fault for jumping in there and you immediately fixed it, so that was good. Your reverts via Popups all looked fine. P.S. - I just saw your Barnstars page, and it's about 10 times longer than mine. Useight (talk) 03:03, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Yosef Blau

I'm the one who removed the links. I didn't realize that I wasn't logged on. I left a short comment on the Yosef Blau discussion page. In short, I don't think the links belong there. They have very little to do with Rabbi Yosef Blau, other than quoting him briefly. The links are more appropriate on the accused molesters pages, i.e. Lanner, Tendler and whomever else the articles are about.Danthecan (talk) 05:13, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for notifying me. I'll strike the vandal warning. --RyRy5 (talk) 05:22, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Pete Smith (baseball)

I read through the article and made minor fixes where I thought appropriate, but other than that I didn't see any problems. Well written, simply enough.   jj137 (talk) 15:47, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

My RFB

Thank you for your comments in my RFB. Since it was only at 64%, it was a shoo-in to be unsuccessful, so I withdrew. I didn't want it to run until its scheduled close time because my intent in standing for RFB was to help the bureaucrats with their workload, not give them one more RfX to close. Through the course of my RFB, I received some very valuable feedback, some of it was contradictary, but other points were well agreed upon. I have ceased my admin coaching for now to give me time to revamp my method. I don't want to give up coaching completely, but I'm going to find a different angle from which to approach it. As for my RFA Standards, I am going to do some deep intraspection. I wrote those standards six months ago and I will slowly retool them. This will take some time for me to really dig down and express what I want in an admin candidate. If, after some serious time of deep thought, I don't find anything to change in them, I'll leave them the way they are. I'm not going to change them just because of some community disagreement as to what they should be. Will I stand for RFB again in the future? I don't know. Perhaps some time down the road, when my tenure as an administrator is greater than one year, if there is a pressing need for more active bureaucrats, maybe. If there no pressing need, then maybe not. Useight (talk) 02:58, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

User Page Deletion

How do you delete a user page? Johnneson 08:38, 12 June 2008 (Pacific Standard Time)

Hello. Administrators can delete user pages but only when it is a problem or when the owner of the user page adds {{db-author}} to it. I hope that helps. :D -- RyRy5 (talk) 03:40, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Re:Coalinga, California earthquake

Sure. Why not. Earthquake articles are way underrepresented compared to hurricanes and tropical storms. You might want to consider joining Wikipedia:WikiProject Earthquakes if you wish to continue contributing to this area. I am pleased that you have expanded your editing outside of baseball related articles -- that shows that you are a more well rounded editor. Happy editing! I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 09:46, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm sure we can make the length requirements in 5 days. Heck, I wrote 1992 Nicaragua earthquake and that became a GA in 4 days! I don't think we can expand it that uch, but I'll see what I can do, mainly adding an infobox (done, although some paramters need to be filled in) and uploading USGS maps and public-domain images. I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 09:59, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Why do you say that? I have already uploaded one and plan to upload at least one more. By the way: anything at the USGS site you can upload and copypaste for it is exempt from copyright. I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 10:08, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Check out the article now... I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 10:53, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstar! I have already nominated the article under today, but feel free to mess around with the hook, since you did create the article and I would have never touched it had you not asked. It does relie mostly on one source which is a problem I think. I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 19:24, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

T:TDYK - sourced later in article, per WP:LEAD

I responded to your comment re the article I wrote about George Takei's autobiography. Please correct and verify the hook, per my response/explanation and per the cite to Associated Press. Thanks, Cirt (talk) 16:55, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

I also went and added that same cite to the WP:LEAD of the article itself, so there is no confusion where the info is sourced to. Cirt (talk) 17:05, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. That's all that needed to be clarified. Everything else was verified. What date is the hook under? I can't seem to find it for some reason. -- RyRy5 (talk) 18:55, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

The hook is under 11 June. Cirt (talk) 18:58, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

I was just there. Probably, yes, I'll join. I was wondering, is there a certain place where a list of red linked earthquakes were (besides the list at earthquake)? That would probably help me a lot. -- RyRy5 (talk) 20:52, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
No, not at Wikipedia, and List of earthquakes is a mess. Here is a list from the USGS, nd many of these articles do not exist. I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 21:04, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

the need or lack of it for inline citations (in all cases)

Hi there. I note with chagrin, that you annotated the Tadeusz Gronowski's bio I placed in the Did You Know queue as rejected/flagged as faulty on grounds that it lacks inline citations. This bio is sourced exclusively to one (scholarly) biography, listed in Bibliography section, and attributed to an author. All the information in the article comes from there. Why should this fairly concise bio, single-sourced, need inline citations? I'm all for inline citations, and use them, but please tell me, why would these be added in this case, and where in particular do you see the need for them. Thank you, --Mareklug talk 04:53, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello. Thank you for the notification. Please read bullet point 4 located here. Thank you, RyRy5 (talk) 05:11, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply, however, it is not precise enough for me not to require a clarification. The bullet points are not numbered, and they contain subpoints. In any case I found these items that pertain to sourcing:
  • third (not fourth) bullet point: Articles with good references and citations are preferred.
  • subpoint three of the first bullet point: cite their sources (these sources should be properly labelled; that is, not under an "External links" header); and
Neither of these points expressly demands the use of inline citations in all cases, and I think one should employ the Wikipedia guideline of common sense. Lastly, it is not friendly or informative, not to reply when asked, but to restate a link to policy, which of course I have read and continue to believe that I am abiding by. So, kindly, stop being unhelpful, and do at last account for your edit in a transparent, helpful way. Right now, I am left with an impression, that you prevented a worthy article from being used correctly in Did You Know. Also, I made the candidacy on 7 June and your objection came 5 days later, which made it difficult to seek redress. --Mareklug talk 15:21, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
Again, thank you for expressing your concerns. I think the best thing to do in this situation is to let someone else review the article, so I've striked my original review so that it will be looked over again by others. I'm sorry if you think I've slowed you down in Did You Know, but please remember that I am doing m best to review correctly, which is very accurate. I don't review incorrectly, but in this case, I'm not so sure. Best of luck, RyRy5 (talk) 19:06, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Merger?

Hi,

Are you interested in helping me Founder a "Trainig Wiki" for adoptees (and adopters), admin coaching/ers to be able to try out various things (including admin tools) in an enviroment that is based entirely on Wikipedia (with appropriate Attribution).

This wiki will also be used for testing media wiki extentions that could be implemented in all the wikimedia foundation projects, but thats up to them we can only provide feedback on the extention page..

You may say "this idea has already been done", well you could not be more from the truthe. Ive seen the most common wiki that attempt's to give users experiance with the tools, but this wiki is noway similar to wikipedia (i mean they're not even running the same version or templates , layout etc to try)

I see you have the same problems many other "test wiki's" do when they try to imitate wikipedia. That is (just a few examples and im not attacking you or the test wiki) you have the wrong version of wikimedia for starters, your delete reasons, block reasons etc do not reflect wikipedia's, You missing buttons on the edit bar, your missing extentions and key templates. And when you have copied contents from wikipedia you have not attributed it back to Wikipedia with at least a link to the original in accordance with GFDL (eg your mainpage is clearly from wikipedia, that must be attributed). Also my logo is better looking :-)

As you can see its a big headache by no small measure

This is where my Training Wiki has a distict advantage. It will have (currently buildling) all of the above and even uses the same verion as Wikipedia. I'm asking for help because theres work to be done and i need some helpers for permissions.

I also consider my self extremly porficient in running media wiki :-)

I wish to propose a merger. Are you interested? Have a think about it and get back to me   «l| Ψrom3th3ăn ™|l»  (talk) 05:48, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Make an admin

Hey, RyRy, it's me, the $R$. I wanted to know how to make users admins. Because I'm planning on starting a wiki, and I want to make users admins so they can help out.

Peace Out! SAVIOR_SELF.777 23:53, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Bureaucrats and Stewards can make users into admins. On that wiki, go to Special:Userrights. Typo in the user's username you want to give rights to. After that, you should see one box on the right, and one box on the left. Highlight the rights you want to give a user in the right box. Than save the page. To revoke, just do the same thing except you highlight the rights on the left box. -- RyRy5 (talk) 02:31, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

You design userpages?

I dont need a design done, but i would appreciate it greatly if you told me what the code was for putting in a specific background color (i.e black or red being the background of a page). I know what it is for websites, i design them . But i dont know what it is on wikipedia. Can you please help me out?

There are many ways. I can give you one of the easiest ones though. Just add the following to the page to add a black background to a page:

<div class="usermessage" style="background-color:black; border-color: black;"><div class="plainlinks">

By the way, your signature is too long. Please make it shorter and don't use a template. Thanks, RyRy5 (talk) 19:32, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

kk, now how do i make all the text set to red default? (all the text put in will be red) —Preceding unsigned comment added by IaM7DeadlySins (talkcontribs) 19:37, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Never mind, i got it! Come check it out, it looks awesome!

Hehe, it looks good.. but it may be hard for some people to read. Do you think you can use different colors instead? The black is just too dark. -- RyRy5 (talk) 19:44, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Review

Ohai Ryan. Well, I went through each diff individually, and all I can say is that I'm very impressed. Things like this and this show your ability and willingness to improve the encyclopedia. Furthermore, those vandalism reverts were spot on, and you undid good faith edits which shows that you know the difference between vandalism and good-faith. Having said that, I think this was in error. although there was removal of content, there was also additional material being added, making it a good-faith edit that probably needed undoing instead of reverting. Also, I think this was probably badly phrased, and may have been interpreted in the wrong way. Although you're essentially right in what you're saying, that edits to userspace and user talk space edits aren't necessarily why we're here, suggesting that someone is not a "good member" is a bit ill-advised. I know what you meant, and he probably knew what you meant, but to someone else it could have come across as a bit dismissive. Wording is important, unfortunately; a badly phrased comment can lead to all sorts of problems. I was trying to get the lead of Monarchy of the United Kingdom up to scratch before mainpage day, and I phrased something slightly accidentally. I woke up the next morning to find a thread accusing the author (me) of pro-USA bias towards the monarchy! Which was quite amusing, but it goes to show how important phrasing is. :) Other than that I have no concerns. Would you like rollback back? You've demonstrated accurate vandalism reverts, so I think it's time to give it another go, but only with your consent. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 10:44, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Well, thanks for the long review. Yes, this was an error. Undoing it would have been better. And about this, I see now how it could be misunderstood, and I'll watch myself next time. Although, the editor I was commenting to was blocked indef earlier today, the first day he created his account. And about your rollback offer. You probably know, but I have been granted and have been revoked of rollback 3 times each. Although, I know I have improved greatly in reverting vandalism, telling good-faith edits from vandalism, I really don't want rollback right now. Knowing that an administrator thinks I would be fine with rollback is enough for me to know right now. I'll stick to navigation popups for now. But if I ever do decide I would like rollback granted again, I'll ask. Thanks for the offer, and the review though. I greatly appreciate this. :) -- RyRy5 (talk) 10:55, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
You're welcome. :) Apart from those two diffs there were no worries. You behave like a good editor should. You know that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not something else. You have all the qualities that I like to see, so keep it up! :) Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 11:01, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Just a heads up

I thought you might like to know that the Awards Center page has been deleted, along with its newsletter.  :(

So, where do we go from here?

To new and even more interesting projects, of course!

As announced in the newsletter, I've been preparing to co-coordinate a large collaboration/competition called Around the World. It was going to be run at the Awards Center, but since that no longer exists, the collaboration will be hosted somewhere else.

Around the World will begin July 15th as planned - it's location will be announced soon.

It'll be a blast. In the competition, participants will be helping to develop over 200 pages (drafts, which will be moved to article space once they are ready), using advanced tools to edit every single one of them!

This is going to be interesting.

And the event shall have awards which are being created specifically for it as we speak!

If you would like me to keep you informed of this and other interesting collaborations I'll be working on and/or organizing in the future, please drop me a note on my talk page, and I'll be happy to keep you in the know.

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

For my talk page I would like all the words white and the background black, but also the message to people leaving me a message, I want that in a table with gold words with a white background, and make all the words on the talkpage italics(so when someone leaves a message, it will automatically come up in italics.Gears Of War 14:24, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Rollback

I checked all your reverts within your last 100 edits, and I'm impressed so far. From what I've seen, I'd give you rollback, but I'd first go back further. I'm seeing a definite improvement. Nice job. Useight (talk) 17:28, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

I went through all your reverts in your last 250 article edits. I was going to do the last 500, but I got tired. Anyway, I found this, which appears to be putting vandalism back into the article; this, which appears to be removing useful information, or at least reverting a good faith edit; and this, which appears to be putting vandalism into an article. I also found a vandal putting in "WIKIPEDIA EDITORS NEED TO BE KEPT ON THEIR TOES!!", which got reverted by you less than one minute after the vandalism was placed there, so that was great. So, it seems there's a couple mistakes here and there, but nobody's perfect. Useight (talk) 16:22, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Indeed RyRy(5) everybody makes mistakes. That's why I stopped using Huggle atm due to risk of improperly csding new pages. This "fear" came from a few new editors with questions on my talk about their pages but they're all here editing in good faith thank goodness.--Xp54321 (Hello!Contribs) 16:29, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Okay I checked the pages mentioned in my talk. On one the csd tag was changed by another editor(U8 please review my talk, the "power" article if u dont mind,im not sure what to think of it) and the other I rmed the tag to allow for expansion but the creator appears to be offline. I will wait a few days for the 2nd one. Recommendations RyRy(5)?--Xp54321 (Hello!Contribs) 16:33, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Useight: The first diff I actually undid it here. It was ClueBot's fault for jumping in ahead of me. The third diff was another editor reverting the same edit I was trying to revert, so he got in fromt of me (using huggle) and I just came behind him, which I didn't see. And the second diff, yeah, my mistake. Xp, no, I don't know much about WP:CSD so I have nothing to say. :( -- RyRy (talk) 18:47, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, so it's just one real mistake and I wouldn't hold a couple minor errors against anybody. That's the beauty of someone else being able to fix it when something slips under the radar. Useight (talk) 05:07, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Congrats on getting rollback!(back)!:D--Xp54321 (Hello!Contribs) 16:46, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Erm, thanks, but it's no big deal. Don't get your pants in a jiffy, I won't loose it (I hope...). -- RyRy (talk) 16:50, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

backstabbing??!

was this an underhanded jab at me??!!! ;) Thingg 03:25, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Hehe, well, I wouldn't want to be a dick and not approve the DYK nom just because it was just 1 character above the limit and lowering the chances of a good DYK article appearing on the mainpage. I was just being bold and I ignored all rules. ;) -- RyRy5 (talk) 03:57, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
I see. Well. I'm Thingg and I'm glad to meet you. ;) Thingg 21:03, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
I already know you. :P Well, I'm RyRy, nice to meet you (agian). :) -- RyRy (talk) 21:04, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

1946 Nankaido earthquake

I nominated this for DYK, but could you help me a bit? --Meldshal42 (talk) 14:54, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

The date and the hook are good, but the article is not long enough yet. It is only 773 characters, though. Good start, but it needs to be at least 1500 characters. Try expanding it. Once expanded, tell me so I can review it over again. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 21:14, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Could you count again? I want to know exactly how much more it needs. --Meldshal42 (talk) 21:31, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Very close now. It is at 1305 characters. Only 195 more to go. Tell me when you've expanded it a bit more. -- RyRy (talk) 21:35, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

DYK review

Yes that would be great from my point of view. I've written one DYK (well, four if you count the three that were written for FAC), but reviewing and stuff can be a problem. Plus, I've never had an uncontested hook. :) I'm sure it'll be great. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 21:36, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

DYK

Regarding my DYK, I moved my reference lower in the article to be right after my hook. (Don't worry. The reference can be used to support the statement) My problem is, though, that the Dolly Gray part isn't in there. Do I need that? I got the original info from Baseball Library, but that's an external link; not a reference.--LAAFan 23:55, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

  • I've fixed up the article a bit, and yes, it can be reassessed. I've approved it. Good job LAA! I'm proud to see that your getting involved in DYK now. Just wait a few days and you should receive a template saying that it appeared on the mainpage. That's when you will have your first DYK. -- RyRy (talk) 01:23, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! The DYKs that you have was actually the thing that inspired me to start myself. ;)--LAAFan 01:33, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Your welcome. That's nice to hear. :) If you ever need help writing DYKs (especially baseball-related ones) or if you want me to review one, you can always ask me for help. -- RyRy (talk) 01:40, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hi RyRy, Thank you for cleaning up and looking over some of the stubs I´ve made here. I really appreciate it. Felt a bit like nobody noticed, or read them. (No wonder, though, since the field of algology is not what comes to most peoples mind when they wake up in the morning:). Rex shock (talk) 00:23, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Oh your welcome. :) I'll clean up the rest of your articles you created. Good job by the way. If you ever have any questions about editing wikipedia or anything at all, feel free to ask me. -- RyRy (talk) 01:24, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Done. I've cleanup all your article creations. If you ever need an article to be cleaned-up, feel free to leave me a not eon my talk page (which is this page :D). Cheers, RyRy (talk) 04:01, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

In need of userpage help

I saw a note that you like to design userpages. Mine is in serious need of help. Whatever you could do would be appreciated greatly. Thank you!! --Npnunda (talk) 04:14, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Sure, I would be happy to redesign your user page. Is there anything specific I should know about for me to do? -- RyRy (talk) 04:18, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Nevermind. I just designed your user page from whatever I thought you would like. Tell me if you like it. ;) -- RyRy (talk) 07:25, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Looks great thanks!! --Npnunda (talk) 23:48, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Your welcome. :) -- RyRy (talk) 04:01, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/As seen on TV (marketing)

Yeah, that article needs to be either kept or merged. There are eight "Keep" votes and four "Merge", so a case could be made for either. Useight (talk) 04:23, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Oops, I see you saw that I pasted in the wrong window. I tried to remove it, but I edit conflicted with you. Also, I like the name change, I already called you "RyRy" in casual conversation with my roommates. Useight (talk) 04:27, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, closing it as keep would be fine in my book. Useight (talk) 04:31, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
I guess it takes a while to move all the edits. I saw the conversation about it at the bureaucrat's noticeboard. I have it watchlisted, but not a lot of action takes place there. I've heard that if they change the username of an editor with a ton of edits, it can knock out the servers for a while. Perhaps that's why it takes a long time now, to give the servers a break. Useight (talk) 04:51, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
I responded at Talk:Pikachu. And, yeah, I'd like to be a bureaucrat so I can help Wikipedia in a second capacity. But the "one year minimum as an admin" is powerful. Useight (talk) 05:08, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Copyediting

Hi. I saw you were a participant at LoCE and was wondering if you still accept requests for copyediting? If so, the Anime and manga project has a rather large list, List of Naruto characters, that is in need of a full copyediting before it can be nominated for featured list status. Would you be interested in working on it? If not, would you have any recommendations for other copyeditors who might be willing to tackle it. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 09:24, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Ohai. The WP:LOCE is inactive, but I do take personal requests on my talk page since I do copyedit articles at Wikipedia:Peer review since I am a volunteer. I'm not experienced in Naruto-related articles, but I can try. I'll start whenever I can and it may take me a while to thoroughly copyedit that list. Is there anything specific I should know about the list? -- RyRy (talk) 13:41, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Great and thanks in advance :) It was recently peer reviewed, so there may be some comments there of aid. User:Sephiroth BCR is one of the main editors on the list, so I'll see if he has any other concerns/items to note. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 16:15, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Hey, my thanks for agreeing to copy-edit it. Copy-editing a 87k article is certainly no easy feat. Anyhow, the information presented is basically the result of a long (really long actually) merging process that merged half-a-dozen lists, a dozen character articles, and related material into what you see now. The information is there, it simply needs to be conveyed better. Like you said, the only stumbling block is that you haven't read the series, which actually is a plus, as you can note parts that aren't too clear to a person who hasn't read the series. If there's ever a time where some part of the plot is confusing or you need something clarified, just make notes on the talk page of the article. Thanks again, Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 20:42, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Alright, I'll start some copyediting as soon as I can. I have a lot on my schedule of Wikipedia. :) -- RyRy (talk) 04:01, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
No problem, take it at your own pace. Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 10:24, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Anotehr DYK

You said to contact you if I wanted you to review of to help with DYKs. I have already nominated another I expanded fivefold (Tom Baker (Chicago Cubs)). Would you be kind enough to review it?--LAAFan 19:52, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

I've reworded and reviewed the hook here. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 04:01, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Q re: my article in Google

hello Ryry! You sent me a message yesterday including some cookies, thanks they were great :-) I have a question, when I google Henry Levy (which was my contribution article yesterday), why doesnt the wikipedia article come up? It comes up when I search in wikipedia.com, but through Google it does not. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you! Starperson (talk) 19:53, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
