Superfluous photos

edit

Hi:

It seems you like to upload cloud photos in Commons and place them into articles. It is good to upload meaningful images but their use has to be justified. One only place a photo in an article to clarifying or illustrate a point. Wikipedia is not your photo album, please don't only add photos in articles just because you want to show your work.

Please do not add inappropriate images to Wikipedia, as you did to Silliness; it is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. Please only add images if they add significant encyclopaedic value to an article and illustrate relevant text  Velella  Velella Talk   13:49, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

I concur with Pierre cb and Velella. Adding superfluous illustrations is detrimental to the quality of articles, and takes a lot of works by other users to be fixed. If you are not sure that a picture improves an article, then do not add it. Note that three users have come on your page independently for the exact same reason in the past month. Best, Malparti (talk) 15:41, 15 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I appreciate your recommendations, I will not put files with no encyclopaedic value on Wikipedia articles, nor will I post useless pictures on Wikimedia Commons. Couch-scratching-cats (talk) 22:00, 15 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

And yet you have just added two very low value images to Flood. Please stop now or risk some more formal sanctions.  Velella  Velella Talk   16:41, 1 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Cumulonimbus cauda

The article Cumulonimbus cauda has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I am unable to find reliable (scientific, meteorological) sources that mention this type of cloud.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Invitation to take part in a survey about medical topics on Wikipedia

edit

Dear fellow editor,

I am Piotr Konieczny, a sociologist of new media at Hanyang University (and User:Piotrus on Wikipedia). I would like to better understand Wikipedia's volunteers who edit medical topics, many associated with the WikiProject Medicine, and known to create some of the highest quality content on Wikipedia. I hope that the lessons I can learn from you that I will present to the academic audience will benefit both the WikiProject Medicine (improving your understanding of yourself and helping to promote it and attract new volunteers) and the wider world of medical volunteering and academia. Open access copy of the resulting research will be made available at WikiProject's Medicine upon the completion of the project.

All questions are optional. The survey is divided into 4 parts: 1 - Brief description of yourself; 2 - Questions about your volunteering; 3 - Questions about WikiProject Medicine and 4 - Questions about Wikipedia's coverage of medical topics.

Please note that by filling out this questionnaire, you consent to participate in this research. The survey is anonymous and all personal details relevant to your experience will be kept private and will not be transferred to any third party.

I appreciate your support of this research and thank you in advance for taking the time to participate and share your experiences! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me at my Wikipedia user page or through my email listed on the survey page (or by Wikipedia email this user function).

The survey is accessible through the LINK HERE.

Tips for your new articles

edit

I noticed you are making a lot of new articles for rare genetic disorders. Just want to pass on some tips (I've tried to do the following to some of your articles, but it would be helpful if you could update your new articles with these suggestions and keep them in mind for your future articles):

  • Bold the subject's name in the lead. I've noticed you miss this on occasion, but it is part of Wikipedia's manual of style.
  • Add a References section. Add a section at the end of the article with == References == and in the next line use something like {{reflist}}.
  • Try to avoid bare URLs for your references. This can cause WP: Link rot. That page gives some suggestions of how to avoid it.
  • Add links to the article in other Wikipedia pages. Otherwise, it is an WP:Orphan
  • Add the article to WikiProjects. This generates more editor interest in the articles. I would suggest WP:Medicine with their medical genetics taskforce. You can do that by adding {{WikiProject Medicine|genetics=yes}} in the article's talk page.

Hope that helps. Singularity42 (talk) 19:16, 10 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, I'll have these in my mind when I make new articles:) kind regards, Rollcloud (talk) 19:42, 10 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Reference error messages

edit

Hello, I have fixed a number of ref-error msgs over the last few weeks in pages you have edited or created; these mainly have had to do with the large gaps in the titles of the OMIM references which produce a 'line feed' error message and adds the page to an ever-expanding category. These messages are usually displayed in red in the refs section next to the cite concerned. Please use preview to check the refs and fix. Thank you. Happy editing. I'm a forgetful person but yes I will fix ref error messages next time, I started working on it by fixing the spaces between "OMIM Entry" in Omim references, then by fixing them on PubMed date errors where only the month and year is added instead of the day itself. I will remind myself of this constantly next time. If i don't fix them before I first publish the article I will fix them afterwards. kind regards, Rollcloud (talk) 21:32, 13 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Czech dysplasia, metatarsal type moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Czech dysplasia, metatarsal type, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Article creation

edit

Hello, Rollcloud,

First, thank you for all of your contributions to Wikipedia. They are appreciated! However, it would help other editors if you would start articles in Draft space or User space like your Sandbox rather than putting them in main space and then moving them to Draft space and then moving them back to main space. All of these page moves puts your articles on a list of pages that have been moved and each time you move a page from main space to Draft space, it creates a redirect that then has to be tagged for deletion and deleted by an administrator. It would be much simpler if you worked in Draft or User space and only moved an article into main space when you thought it was "finished". It also complicates things because our New Page Patrollers are reviewing an unfinished Draft in main space and they could easily tag it for deletion. If you just put articles into main space when you are done with a draft, then the NPP will be reviewing a much more polished version of the article.

Thank you for considering changing up your procedure for creating articles! Liz Read! Talk! 03:36, 10 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for notifying me, really appreciate it, I will write my articles from one of those two spaces from now on. kind regards, Rollcloud (talk) 04:08, 10 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Family pedigree and electron micrographic image of the skeletal muscles of a patient with Compton-North congenital myopathy.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Family pedigree and electron micrographic image of the skeletal muscles of a patient with Compton-North congenital myopathy.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 20:44, 16 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
