LostBot

Hello! Thanks for the wb message. No worries about the phoning issue. I'm still keeping my editing controlled, as the problem is yet to be fully resolved. Hopefully, I will be back editing very soon.

On something totally different now; I noticed that LostBot was tagging WP:KERALA (and possibly other descendant wikiprojects of WP:INDIA) with the {{WP India}} template. I don't think it is quite necessary for these work groups to be tagged as such. The fact that it is a descendent project is already mentioned on the page. Of course, I'd like to hear your thoughts before I remove the template.--thunderboltz(TALK) 15:31, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume II, Issue 2 - March 2007

Project News
  • Jimbo's visit to India and the WikiCamp in Chennai: Jimbo recently visited India in late February and early March on wiki work. This included a trip to a WikiCamp in Chennai. The one day conference attracted 300 participants from across India and beyond dealt with issues facing wikis ([1]). It was widely covered by the press, eg The Hindu( [2]), which cited the efforts of Bhadani (edit count), Sundar (leadership on Tamil Wikipedia) and Ganeshk (Creation of Ganeshbot to create articles on Indian towns from census figures). Ganeshk himself travelled from California to attend the conference.
  • Wikipedia Weekly 15: Wikipedia Weekly, a informal Wikipedians' program that purports to give "A weekly audio roundup of Wikipedia happenings with news, interviews and roundtable discussions" recently interviewed two prominent editors Rama's Arrow and Ragib(listen). The entire 34 minute interview was entirely about the world of Indian subcontinent wiki-happenings, and was the first episode which was not entirely dominated by discussion of wiki-politics and wiki-bureaucracy, with the host Witty lama praising the efficiency of the project and its proliferation of featured content. Rama's Arrow cited the team spirit, friendship and respect among project members in discussing its success and FA productivity, as well as discussing subcontinental wiki-conflict. Ragib talked also of his public campaign to raise awareness of the Bengali Wikipedia in his native Bangladesh, which has seen a 30-fold increase in article count over the past year.
What's New?
Congratulations to all contributors who helped to develop the above content to represent the best of Wikipedia!

Note from Editor's Desk
  • Welcome to the March 2007 edition of our newsletter.
  • Congratulations to one of our most respected writers, bureaucrats and administrators, Nichalp, who is now entrusted with the oversight permission. In addition Riana has joined the administrative ranks after a successful RfA.
  • On a sad note, Nobleeagle, who was responsible for the creation of the Punjab WikiProject, and was largely responsible for Indian cricket team, Bhagat Singh and Lage Raho Munna Bhai becoming GAs, as well as working heavily in Indian religious and cricket work, has left the project after having his identity revealed.
  • More generally, certain Indian users have recently been subject to real life harassment by banned users, etc. If this is affecting you in real life, please do not hesitate to contact Wikimedia board members for assistance, or ask a senior Wikipedian to solicit help on your behalf if required.
  • Nishkid64, a prolific contributor and administrator, is currently undergoing surgery to fix a congenital heart defect. You can wish him well here.
  • Weekly Collaboration (Shortcut:WP:INCOTW): Collaboration of the Week has fallen from its once high feats. Please drop by and help rejuvenate it.
  • As before, we'd like to stress, this is your newsletter, and we want you to be part of it as well. Provide us with news tips. It can be anything related to the project, from discussions to calls for help, and other interesting stuff within our community. Sponsored content for recruitments within your WikiProject sub-groups are also welcome, including requests for copyediting, photographic work, peer review, etc. We'll be very happy to include them here.
This edition special
  • Translation Department: Can you read and write any languages of India? Do you know multiple languages and are looking to keep your skills at a high level or improve them? If so, the Translation Depeartment may be for you!

The translation department of the India WikiProject aims to utilize high-quality non-English material related to India for the goals of the project. This includes both translating articles from and to other-language Wikipedias as well as assisting contributors with non-English sources. The department aims to provide services in transliteration, formulating scripts for various languages, as well as translating articles from one language to another and validating sources in other languages to that of the encyclopedia article. If you are looking for a friendly translator here is your go-to point. Currently, we are still seeking representation for Kashmiri, Nepali, Oriya, Sindhi and Tulu, as well as reinforcements in all other languages.

Portal:Current events/India

The portal needs immediate and continued attention. I don't understand automated technologies much. Please try to fix (if needed) and clearly state in the help page what is needed to update/maintain the portal. Portal:Current events/India/How to archive the portal is not very explicit. Once the automated portions are done, anyone can do the updating. I was trying to do the updating today. Did to some extent. But was not sure about archiving process, so had to quit after some time fearing I may force some errors. Please try to do it if you have time, or you can ask someone else. Let me know if you think someone specifically so that I can get in touch with that user. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 19:10, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi!!!

Hi lost, when I checked the history of the pages it seemed that you were the only Wikipedian who was interested in editing topics regarding Himachal. Whenever I see other pages like west bengal, delhi, sikkim, kerla and lots more I feel quite ashamed. It is really disappointing that there is nothing available regarding HP there on other associated Wikimedia. But then also I would be trying to complete as many topics as possible. I have started up with the history of himacahal. Thanks Sushant gupta 11:19, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Geography of Himachal Pradesh

Hello Lost, it seems that you have really lost in the rush. Its been quite a long time you had not been here on Wikipedia. Well anyway I am just kidding. The page you have created on the geography of himachal pradesh is having the content copyrighted from http://www.webindia123.com Kindly see to it. If you can't rewrite the page since you are quite busy person may I start up the geography of Himachal. You may get angry with me that I am eating away yours contribs. but what can I do they copyrighted. I really appreciate your edits on Himachal Pradesh topics. RE:Belated welcome to WP:India

Many thanks for this message and the good sentiments with which it was accompanied.
I should have joined the wikiproject earlier but I developed a habit of working alone as soon as I started editing here. My involvement in a long, drawn out arbcom case and suffering an injury have insured my contributions to be delayed by several days, but I intend to work productively and visibly as soon as conditions permit to.
Many regards and best wishes,

Much Thanks

My talk page was very bare, now it's much better! I have been around here for a while, but it is nice to be officially acknowledged. My main impediment from doing more on Wikipedia is that I don't have the technical aspects of editting down. I also don't know what needs editting. Like the question I just left on the help page. I care about the use/mention distinction, but I didn't know if that was just me being nutty or not. Hopefully I'll figure out all the editting macros, info boxes, and methods of design (like that sig that Freedomskies just left). Anyway... thanks again! Tdmg 06:04, 1 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:YS_Yadav.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:YS_Yadav.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 02:01, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
