- Sorry I did not upload this file, It's on commons already, uploaded by User:Jot. I did run into some database outages last night - perhaps the history has been corrupted along the way.

UIC notation
editHello Railwayfan, thank you for your recent edits to the Vossloh G1206 article. Just one note, could you try to avoid replacing fully encompassing UIC classification (eg. Bo'Bo') with less complete and simplified AAR wheel arrangement as this latter notation loses information and is also US-specific. Many Thanks once again, —Sladen (talk) 22:29, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

- I am not aware of any chains, or rods that connect the two axles mechanically together on the G1206 bogies, so that would point to four hydraulic motors—I'm certainly interested to hear, and would welcome any lesson, if the UIC methods should be applied differently with DH traction. —Sladen (talk) 22:59, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- The method is applied consistently: DH traction has only got one transmission unit on each bogie so no "o" is warranted. The axles are effectively connected internally through the drive system. The presence of rods/chains makes the interconnection clearer on 0-4-0+0-4-0 type locos. If you want a reference see [1] which is quite clear about distinguishing B'B' locos from Bo'Bo' locos. The same issue exists with French monomotor freight locos: these are quite often misquoted as being Bo'Bo' or Co'Co' when they are actually B'B' or C'C'. There are lots of places, some quite reputable and should know better, which make the same mistake (eg the Angel trains website lists the Vossloh G1000 as a Bo'Bo', which I don't think this is correct.) Aside from all this, the UIC classification talks about electric traction motors - a DH has none of these so the "o" cannot possibly apply! Railwayfan2005 (talk) 23:38, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

"Railway stations of London - in colour"
editHi there! Just to let you know over the last year or so I have visited and photographed every single station (that's National Rail, Tube and DLR) within the six principal London Travelcard Zones (except Denmark Hill - which I intend to do some time this weekend!). I'm a bit 50-50 when it comes to considering Tramlink stops as "stations" per se, especially given that Tramlink is zoned and ticketed more like London Buses than the railway network proper. SNCF loco template
editI've removed the "commonscat" and "category:SNCF locomotives" link you added to Template:SNCF locomotives , and at the same time fixed the relevent articles..
The problems is - that it makes a commons link appear even if there are no pictures, also it messes up articles which have been categorised by redirects, and it messes up formatting of locomotives which have more than one 'navbox' ie locos that are used by more than one state.FengRail (talk) 03:55, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Reşiţa
editEveryone, myself foremost, agrees instances of ş and ţ should be moved to ș and ț, and has done so for at least a year now. But of course, this should happen in toto and simultaneously, not piecemeal across the years. It would be rather silly to have Reșița while having Piteşti, Botoşani, Braşov and Piatra Neamţ, would it not? So by all means let's get the gears of a grand move going, but not do so in little bits until that happens. - Biruitorul Talk 23:13, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
- Is a bot being prepared to do this? How about an info box on the talk page showing that the page is recognised as requiring the change and for other editors to sit back and wait for the bot to come along? - To my knowledge, no bot is being prepared, but that would be nice. The only major issue is with Ș/ș: Turkish uses ş (e.g. Eskişehir), so we'd have to be careful not to move Turkey-related pages. I know that on Romanian Wikipedia, they tagged Turkey pages to make the bot skip those; not sure how it would work here. Ț/ț, however, are good to go. - Biruitorul Talk 02:41, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

- Here's a little template to be used on the talk page of an article: User:Railwayfan2005/Sandbox/Romanian S & T. It's a little rough and ready at the moment. This can be added by hand to point the bot at files to move. Next step would be to find a means of getting a page list for straight forward moves: All titles with T-Cedilla will catch a lot of things. Then it's down to some magic with S-Cedilla pages in Romanian categories. (I'm not skilled in either of these steps...) Searching for articles with S-Cedilla in the title gives 27,724 results-Definitely bot territory! Once the bot has moved the page over it should replace the move template with one explaining the difference between S/T-cedilla and S/T-comma. Railwayfan2005 (talk) 21:43, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

- Hi guys. I'm the bot operator that made the change at ro.wp. Of course, I still have the code of the robot. However, as you can see from the first link provided by Biruitorul above, en.wp has its own problems (the most important of which is the roughly equal number of Romanian and Turkish titles containing "ş"). At ro.wp we used some templates and HTML tricks to mark the turkish words. It is probable that those will not be accepted here - but you can always start a discussion.
- In my opinion, the best solution for en.wp seems to be renaming the articles and leaving the content to be converted manually by the users. As more and more will write with the correct symbols, the articles will slowly be converted. Of course, this means that in the process, you will have mixed articles (with both the old and new diacritics). The question is wether this is an acceptable compromise.
- You can use ro:MediaWiki:diacritice.js any time in your own user scripts if you want to make sure you write with the correct diacritics (and that you convert the whole article in the process).--Strainu (talk) 07:31, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
- Maybe this is too optimistic, but I'd have thought that it would be quite simple to check whether an article containing "ş" is Romanian or Turkish (just look for certain strings in the wikitext - of course there will be some that mention both countries or neither, and they would have to be checked by hand). And once you have an article identified as Romanian (with no mention of Turkey/Turkish), then if we're going to change the title, I'd have thought we might as well do the substitutions in the text as well - there might be very occasional errors, but generally speaking it ought to be fairly smooth.--Kotniski (talk) 09:01, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
- The article bodies can be updated by using AWB, or perhaps using Wikipedia:Lists of common misspellings. It's the actual articles which are the work to be done. Oh, I've discovered (rediscovered actually, since I now notice it was already linked to above) this past discussion, which led to the redirects being created (from ș and ț forms to ş and ţ forms), so maybe the script that was used to do that could be adapted to now perform the moves? - The page moves could easily enough be done with a bot, as long as consensus is demonstrated (post it at WP:VPR and ask the relevant projects for input) and a list of pages needing to be moved is generated. Note there is no need for the list to supply both the source and destination names, since it's just a simple replacement of 4 characters. Replacement of text within pages is less amenable to unattended bot action, as text in direct quotes, external link titles, and so on should generally not be changed. LU goods yard closures
editThe information on goods yard closures is good thing to add to Underground stations (and anything touched by Brian Hardy is likely to be a reliable source); but please don't just put it in the infobox. It should primarily go in the article body text (there is nothing to prevent the date going in the infobox as well), and the reference should go against the mention in the text, to prevent the infobox from being clogged with templates that less-experienced users might assume were part of the infobox. See the amendments that I made to Chalfont & Latimer, Rickmansworth and Harrow-on-the-Hill. You may also notice that I removed the |accessdate=
