New Paltz
editHi Justin, I edited a bit of the SUNY New Paltz Page. I will not vandalize or cut out any substantive matters. I am doing this because I am an old alumnus (class of 1986) and I think I can help you make the article a bit better. I do not work for, nor volunteer for, the college any longer. I expect that my work will be done in steps. Please take all suggestions and edits kindly. I am basically trying to make it NPOV, add in links, and add history and color. Feel free to edit or change wording as you see fit, too, but also I'd appreciate your not cutting out anything I put in, without a good reason. By the way, I'm doing this anonymously, as with all of my edits. Bearian 13:07, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Hey man - nice edits.
The only thing I was calling "vandalism" was the removal of legit text, such as the link to WikiPaltz. I know that you did not do any of this.
One thing I notice about your edit: Poskanzer was Vice Provost, not Counsel, when he worked at SysAdmin. RadicalHarmony 19:10, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Correct, I think his title was Vice Provost, but he was really SUNY Central high legal advisor, counsel, and potentate. :-) 20:13, 3 April 2007 (UTC) Retrieved from "http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/User_talk:Bearian"
Justin, a comment about your modifying of links. http://www.newpaltz.edu is the Official website of SUNY New Paltz. There is no argument about that. Your editing of the links to include terms like "State-Run" while technically correct is not coming from a neutral point of view and shows an agenda. Do not make such an edit again or we'll end up with a revert war.
- Are you kidding? Certainly "official" is the more POV word - official according to whom? There are a great many "official" SUNY New Paltz pages including the one run by the Student Government, the one run by SUNY New Paltz Campus Auxiliary Services, and WikiPaltz, which is run by the Student Senate. "State-run" makes it very clear whose website it is. You are wrong when you say there is "no argument" about this. You are making an argument. RadicalHarmony 21:25, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- You have half a point but then you drag in your brand of politics (well documented on wikipaltz) and destroy it with a NPOV edit. I added the student government links (both of them) in fairness to your point of view. I've looked at over a dozen other university pages (some SUNY, some non-SUNY) and the SUNY New Paltz link now matches what seems to be common practice for university pages. As for your edit that Wikipaltz is run by the Senate are you saying that Wikipaltz is an official organ of the institution or simply run by some members of that institution? They are two very seperate things. Do you have a link to a description of the relationship? Blocke0
Dar Williams photo
editA while back, you mentioned on Talk:Dar Williams#Photo, that you had a photo. There has been some dispute over photos on that article. If you have a particularly good one, that might solve our dispute. -MrFizyx 02:01, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Rabies virus in blood?
editThanks for pointing out the mistake in the article on rabies. The virus does not seem to be present in blood but travels via nerve cells and into the saliva. As far as I can find out it is not present in the blood at all. When I was working on it (a half a century ago!) we never noticed any blood abnormalities - and we were looking for them - hoping to discover a way for testing for the disease. But then, I am way out of date. Anyway, I have removed the reference to blood carrying the virus and have given a couple (of rather outdated sources). However, in the meantime I would avoid drinking the blood of infected animals ;^) , as that may be one way vampire bats contract the disease (it was a theory one of the scientists I worked under). In any case, avoid rabid animals and people like the plague! Cheers and best wishes! John Hill 07:34, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi again. I've posted a notice at WP:COIN about your concerns about SUNY New Paltz, and to avoid an edit war. I am trying to give you and anyone else out there the benefit of the doubt. Bearian 18:19, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Your suggestions
edit(1) What are the problems with the nomenclature? WP guidelines and usual practice say that any web site owned and operated by a state agency is "official", not "state-run". Are the section headers poorly worded? Do we need to add more headers as per Wiki Project Universities? (2) Almost all colleges' articles are edited by alumni or students, so yes, a mild COI is probable. (3) What other changes are needed? Bearian 18:48, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
