  • A recent query shows that only 16% of administrators on the English Wikipedia have enabled two-factor authentication. If you haven't already enabled it please consider doing so.
  • Cookie blocks should be deployed to the English Wikipedia soon. This will extend the current autoblock system by setting a cookie for each block, which will then autoblock the user after they switch accounts under a new IP.
  • A bot will now automatically place a protection template on protected pages when admins forget to do so.

Hi Qaei! I hope you're having a great day. I've never made a wikipedia page and am confused as to why the page I created keeps getting deleted. I've gone over the page and am unsure where it seems advertisement driven.

Thank you so much!

  Guideline and policy news

  • Following a discussion on the backlog of unpatrolled files, consensus was found to create a new user right for autopatrolling file uploads. Implementation progress can be tracked on Phabricator.
  • The BLPPROD grandfather clause, which stated that unreferenced biographies of living persons were only eligible for proposed deletion if they were created after March 18, 2010, has been removed following an RfC.
  • An RfC has closed with consensus to allow proposed deletion of files. The implementation process is ongoing.
  • After an unsuccessful proposal to automatically grant IP block exemption, consensus was found to relax the criteria for granting the user right from needing it to wanting it.

  Technical news

  • After a recent RfC, moved pages will soon be featured in a queue similar to Special:NewPagesFeed and require patrolling. Moves by administrators, page movers, and autopatrolled editors will be automatically marked as patrolled.
  • Cookie blocks have been deployed. This extends the current autoblock system by setting a cookie for each block, which will then autoblock the user if they switch accounts, even under a new IP.

I would like to be your student in the CVUA.

Hello Qaei!

With my edit count exceeding 300, 195 of those being Article edits and of them again most already being basic RCP work, I would like to learn more about Anti-vandalism work on Wikipedia to reduce the amount of changes I skip because I am unsure what to do. I live in Germany, so our time zones fit quite well. If it is possible for you, I would like to do most stuff on weekends, since I am still in school, though I also like some Wikipedia in the afternoon.

I do use Twinkle, though otherwise I have mostly used the classic ways of review. My knowledge on the closer technical workings of Wikipedia is quite limited, but I would enjoy crossing those limits with some help.

I would love to improve my anti-vandalism work and to legitimately show that CVU badge on my user page :)

Thanks -ImmernochEkelAlfred(Spam me! (or send me serious messages, whatever you like)) 23:02, 11 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

@ImmernochEkelAlfred: From what I see on your user page compared to mine, we happen to be on the exact same path, which sounds great to me. I'm happy to let you join the course and I am sure that we will do very well. I am going to make your CVUA page tomorrow morning and we can start then. Qaei 23:40, 11 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

WP:UAA reports on users with no edits

Generally, there is no reason to report usernames with no edits whatsoever. Per WP:UAAI :"Wait until the user edits. Do not report a user that hasn't edited unless they are clearly a vandal. We do not want to welcome productive editors with a report at UAA, nor do we want to waste our time dealing with accounts that may never be used." The exceptions are obvious hate speech or names that attack a living person/Wikipedia editor, those are blockable even without any edits, but other run-of-the-mill violations need not be reported unless and until they at least attempt to edit, and you should be able to clearly explain what the problem is if it is not immediately evident.

For whatever reason, every day dozens, if not hundreds of accounts are created that never make one single edit. It is our responsibility as admins to conscientiously review every report a user makes at UAA, so we have to check for contribs, deleted contribs, and tripping of the edit filter for every one of these reports, only to find out there's nothing there and therefore no problem to be solved. So we add the {{wait}} tag to the report, it goes to WP:UAA/HP for a week or more, and must then be reviewed again to see if the account has since become active before removing it. That's time that could be spent doing more productive things, but you basically obligate admins to do it by making such reports.

@Beeblebrox: The username in question, was a clear violation of the rules. Even if he was productive, you can't go around with a promotional name, not to mention a promotional name about a sex shop. I brought it to the administrators attention, and I stand by what I did. Qaei 09:24, 12 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
I never said anything about them being productive or not as that is not the issue at all, there simply is no problem to be solved if there are no edits assosciated witht he name. You'll note that the above is not just my opinion, WP:UAAI has said the same thing for at least eight years. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:02, 12 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

New page reviewer granted

Hello Qaei. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • URGENT: Please consider helping get the huge backlog (around 18,000 pages) down to a manageable number of pages as soon as possible.
  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. Swarm 03:30, 18 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

WP:CVUA

Hi, can I be your student in CVUA? I know I haven't passed the 200 mainspace edits but I think I'm ready. Lil Johnny (talk) 00:05, 20 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Lil Johnny: You currently have 47 main space edits which at the moment isn't near enough 200 to convince me to let you start the course. Come back as soon as you get 200 and we can begin then. :) Qaei 12:45, 20 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
Qaei: alright, I'll reach 200 mainspace edits first. Lil Johnny (talk) 22:43, 20 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
