Questionable Upload of Possible Copyrighted Work

edit

Hello! ==Image copyright problem with File:Roblox Adopt Me Thumbnail.jpg==

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Roblox Adopt Me Thumbnail.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice?

I know well enough that this is supposed to help 'identify' the game, where in that case it could fall under fair use. However, this seems like it is not necessarily like that. Thumbnails do not always fall under this category, so it would be more reasonable to contact the copyright owner, 'DreamCraft', so the file can be licensed. It appears this was directly copied from the game page on Roblox. Feel free to message me on my talk page if you have any suggestions, or discuss it on the talk page of the file, or, Adopt Me! Thanks, Clearfrienda 💬 14:20, 27 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Clearfrienda: Thumbnails still count as cover art, which is necessary for illustrating the identity of the game. You could've also asked about this at Wikipedia:Files for discussion. ❤︎PrincessPandaWiki (talk | contribs) 16:38, 27 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Not always though, that being the point. It can be Fair Use, but not always. If you search 'thumbnails fair use', you can see multiple cases where thumbnails are considered Fair Use, while some aren't. That wasn't the point, and why I used that template though, part of the copyright information on the image file is filled out with the license meaning that the copyright holder, 'DreamCraft', gave you permission to use it. Did they really, was permission given for use by using the correct license? Thanks, Clearfrienda 💬 17:17, 27 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Pokemon Brick Bronze Battle.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Pokemon Brick Bronze Battle.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:01, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Clarification Regarding an Edit

edit

Hello, I am contacting you in the hope of getting a clarification of one of your edits, specifically the note you've attached to the edit. This edit is the one that you made on the Gamefam page on August 2nd, 2023 with the Edit Note of "We need confirmation for that". In this edit you changed the text "(...), as well as Fortnite Creative(...)" to "(...)it also utilizes Fortnite Creative(...)"

I am contacting you to try and understand what you are inferring with "confirmation", do you mean it as in a confirmation that they use Fortnite Creative or Minecraft? Thanks! ThatOneUnorigional (talk) 10:01, 6 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

@ThatOneUnorigional: The sentence was originally structured in a way that it states Gamefam is the first professional company to utilize Fortnite Creative and Minecraft, which is not confirmed, so I changed the structure so that it states that it merely uses Fortnite Creative and Minecraft. ❤︎PrincessPandaWiki (talk | contribs) 14:16, 6 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Use of the term metaverse in company articles

edit

Hello,

I'd like to clarify why I do not support the inclusion of the term metaverse in articles about corporations such as Gamefam. As can be seen on the Wikipedia article metaverse:

The term metaverse has been used as a buzzword by companies[1][2] to exaggerate the development progress of various related technologies and projects for public relations purposes.[3]

  2. ^ Fischer, Sarah (November 16, 2021). ""Metaverse" is Wall Street's new favorite buzzword". Axios. Archived from the original on December 4, 2021. Retrieved December 4, 2021.
  3. ^ Ravenscraft, Eric (December 26, 2021). "The Metaverse Land Rush Is an Illusion". Wired. ISSN 1059-1028. Retrieved December 28, 2021.

As such, other companies that have an emphasis on this "metaverse" concept, such as Roblox itself, never mention the term "metaverse" in the body of the article. A Ctrl+F source of the term on the Roblox article reveals that the only instance of the word is in the sources, not in the article itself. It was of course not possible to avoid mentioning it in the Meta article because of the name, but that article puts "metaverse" in quotes and only explains the concept to explain the high profile name change.

This is to say that there's a precedent informed by reliable sources that "metaverse" is a PR buzzword and should ideally be avoided when possible. I hope you'll understand where I'm coming from here.

Thanks,

@Picaboo3: Wikipedia needs to be verifiable, which means all information can be attributed to reliable sources. User-generated content, including that wiki, do not count as reliable sources, because anyone can post anything online. There are many things that are important to communities around certain subjects, but are not covered by Wikipedia because they do not have reliable sources to back them up. Without reliable sources, their importance is too subjective. Also see WP:BUTITSTRUE and WP:NOBLECAUSE. ❤︎PrincessPandaWiki (talk | contribs) 17:12, 28 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

edit

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:46, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
